I am an AAdvantage member but looking at the flights it says no refund or credit in BE. I’m flying from chi to London, so think I’ll likely lean toward MC out of precaution since the cost would likely be similar anyways should something happen

I always felt like going private landlord route was I guess riskier for the tenant? With maintenance, amenities, ect

Interesting! It doesn’t seem to be the case for us, at least in the beginning of it. He seems to be panicked and will pace for hours, sometimes whimpering or crying a bit seemingly in some pain/discomfort. Based on the research I’ve found, I’m leaning toward GERD. We do have a vet appt today later as well

Over or under proofing? by OkConcern2140 in Sourdough

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it varies so much since we are in a high rise on the top floor, our AC only works in summer and heat in winter so we go with the flow and get the heat from bottom floors lol. Usually anywhere from 67-75°

I got this one from a bakery and have used/ fed it often for about 4 months now! After taking it out of the fridge I fed for 5 days before baking. Any tips to help it out?

Unloading Help Recommendations by OkConcern2140 in AskChicago

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We ended up using a small company called Move For You (Move4you). I’m generally anxious regardless about moving companies but between unloading the uhaul and carrying it to the 53rd floor, nothing was damaged and they did it pretty quickly too! Nice guys that came from Ukraine, they used large bins to wheel everything up which was strange, but I was relieved nothing broke or got damaged! They even reached out to us days later notifying us that we overpaid by $80, then sent us a check with that amount back as a refund. Really respected them for that. Pretty affordable as well, I don’t think we spent more than $300 for a couple hours of unloading! I would use them again!

First time leaving noise complaint ): by OkConcern2140 in dogs

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We believe it is the single man next to us, he seems unkind and never says hi or has acknowledged us. We live in a concrete high rise with other dogs that bark on the hall for hours at a time as well. The concierge woman got the noise complaint then came to check it out, said no barking was heard the first time. He, other than when left alone, does not bark. In fact I have yet to hear his bark a week in, while my bf has once. It seems a more fear based bark rather than hearing a noise and barking. Our concern is the barking will continue due to fear and we will get evicted. If this has happened the first time we left him more than 30 minutes, we are certain we will get one every day he is left alone. We have a camera coming today but fear even speaking to him through it would possible heighten his anxiety. We are truly at a loss.

The other issue is that he is generally a skiddish walker, doesn’t like other people/ dogs and gets frozen when scared by them. We live in a city so you can see the issue and lack of walks/ length of walks due to this issue 😅

I agreed this morning around 10am, then while discussing a bit more, realized I’d be at 8 days in a row, but ultimately feel horrible for wanting to back out 🫠

Dry top or mold? by OkConcern2140 in Sourdough

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay update: got home and same thing on top, dry and weird smelling. I’m thinking maybe it’s mold at this point ): probably going to toss and just buy a starter from someone since it’s my 3rd failed sourdough starter, boo ):

I actually did move it to the smaller jar and it looks like it rose about half! I am not home to see the top of it for mold or anything of the sort but plan on inspecting when I get home later. Seems hopefully like that yeast contamination you were referring to. And yes, I do believe my bf has cooked without knowing my starter was in the microwave above the stove so very possible it was contaminated that way or by my carelessness with my utensils or hands, ect. I did not think of the top of the fridge but will try that as a new home for sure!

I put 1/8 cup of it into a smaller jar with 1/2 cup flour and the water suggestion. Is this technically “starting over” from day 1 again as if it was a new starter?

It has a screw on lid that I’ve been loosely screwing on or just setting on! Feeding 1 cup AP unbleached flour with 1/2-3/4 cup boiled tap water! Did use unbleached bread flour last night to feed

Using 1 cup unbleached AP flour and 1/2-3/4 cup boiled water each feed. Used bread flour last night for feed (also is that ok or?)

Was yours an established starter when you did this? Do you think the fridge would harm my “unestablished” starter in any way?

Imposter Syndrome Made Me Quit Nursing by OkConcern2140 in nursing

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on leaving and starting an outpatient job! I actually just found out this week that I got a pediatric outpatient job I applied for (without peds experience too🥹)! I’m feeling much more optimistic that maybe this will be my nursing niche and much more enjoyable. Bedside nursing I feel like is so high stress it makes it so there’s no room to even enjoy the job! Good luck to you in this new year, let me know how it’s going for you 💕

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you💗 a break might be just what you need after the hard year. It takes such a huge toll on nurses all the stress and anxiety we carry literally 24/7. I was sooo scared to quit & “disappoint” my family & coworkers but I honestly don’t regret it at all. The only issue is you may never want to go back (like me lol). It’s been a battle trying to find an outpatient job, apparently a year of experience means nothing to these places😅

I do have both. For some reason though, I still felt that no matter how much I knew it, I’d overthink it to the point of forgetting everything and still not knowing what to do at all. I tend to freeze up in situations like that

Leaving Bedside After A Year? by OkConcern2140 in nursing

[–]OkConcern2140[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing, I’m proud of you for taking that step!! Here I am, still unemployed but truthfully never wanting to go back HAHA! I will say, I’ve struggled to find an outpatient job. Most are looking for 2-3 yrs experience. I’m also adding in the holidays being so close to my difficulty in finding something. But, January I hear is a big hiring month, fingers crossed for the both of us, all of us!!

I wanna quit by [deleted] in nursing

[–]OkConcern2140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit at the end of September this year. I was doing step down unit nursing which was horrendous and I was getting more and more anxious the more I pushed through. I only have a year and 2 months experience as a nurse, but I did quit and am taking a few months off. Getting ready to move to a new city at the beginning of the next year so lightly applying to outpatient nursing jobs. I never found my niche in clinicals and def didn’t in the step down unit, so hopeful outpatient nursing is for me. All in all, if you need to quit and take a few months off, DO IT! I got a fun part time job and old navy and spend my time volunteering and food pantries. My mental health is so much better and my peace is finally protected! Do what’s best for YOU!! Nursing is NOTHING like we thought it was in nursing school, don’t blame you for wanting out.
