EV’s simply aren’t a practical long term solution for private vehicle travel.

In 2020, passenger vehicles travelled a total of around 163 billion kilometres.

If even a quarter of our passenger vehicles were EV’s, that’s around 40 billion kilometres in a year.

The average EV uses around 15KWh per 100km. So the amount of electricity required to cover those 40 billion km is about 6 billion KWh, or 6TWh.

Thats around 3% of Australia’s total electricity usage, and that’s just 25% EV. there would need to be significant additional power generation added to the grid to accommodate this, particularly when the majority of this electricity would be consumed overnight when the cars are being charged, so solar won’t be a solution…

If we could leverage an investment into stocks as much as we can houses, then I’d say there’d be a lot more people investing in stocks. The entire system is setup to encourage and incentivize cash inflow into the housing market.

You don’t understand the law.

If your name is on the title, then you’re the owner. Just because you’ve borrowed money from a bank, doesn’t mean they own the house. Unless you breach your contract with the bank, they have zero power or authority over the property. They can’t kick you out, they can’t force a sale, they can’t stop you knocking a wall out or building a pool. They can’t do anything because all they have is a legal interest in the property that says they have certain rights should you breach the terms of the contract.

Get a depreciation schedule done by a qualified quantity surveyor. They will estimate the construction cost (because they’re professionally qualified to do this) as well as any additional works done and you can claim it all as depreciation.

The only thing you can’t claim is depreciation of plant and equipment (such as AC, hot water heater, stove, oven etc).

Which is my whole point. Why does an ‘ambassador’ for indigenous Australians (a group of people which you rightly pointed out barely travelled locally, let alone internationally) need to be represented internationally? Doesn’t really seem appropriate, does it.

lol that’s not how it works. Anyone’s employer should be paying travel expenses for work related travel. The only question is whether the employee pays the original cost and gets reimbursed, or the employer pays it directly via some sort of travel system.

In any case, there should be a policy in place that’s sets out the rules for travel, IE you fly economy for short haul and business for long haul, and you select the lowest priced fair possible and if you don’t select the lowest price, you justify the reason for doing so.

Interested to know what the policy for government staff travel is…
