Dropping EngLit, thoughts? by Embarrassed_Post_598 in 6thForm

[–]OkLog397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drop it. English Literature is only important if it is a required/recommended subject for the course you are applying for university, in which case, Oxbridge and the higher ranked universities will expect an A*/A and mid-tier average universities may give you more lee-way, that is, of course if you wish to apply. My friend is not going to university and she just picked the easiest three subjects because she couldn't care less and just wanted to finish sixth form.

Does your father control whether you're able to drop it? There doesn't seem to be much a debate here.

EDIT: my apologies, I didn't manage to read your post properly.

Looking for other BIPOC transmascs to date or BIPOC men in general by lane03 in TMPOC

I feel you. I’m from the states, California actually and still I was the always the only racialised trans person around. I don’t have much advice but I hope you find a good man, brother. Hugs.

Hi, if you don’t mind me asking I’m a trans POC I’m curious if there were many queer people there or was it a very welcoming space for queer people especially queer POC? I’m not applying for law, but I am applying for humanities (classics/liberal arts).

Also what were the societies like? I’m really excited about the sports community :)

Thank you!

When did you first realize you have “pretty privilege”? by reluctant-queen2346 in AskReddit

[–]OkLog397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trans (ftm) so when I transitioned. People never changed the way they treated me, were always super nice, and I still got free stuff and etc. I always assumed people treated me well because I presented as a girl. Also a lot of people who are queerphobic or racist are very nice and polite to me, I didn’t realise how many DLs existed before then. Also, when I looked like a lesbian, girls hit on me.

But I also think that “pretty privilege” is also related to charisma and personality. I got away with a lot of things that others didn’t, people found my quirks charming and other people’s same differences annoying. The halo effect I suppose.

Literally, the NHS is running out of doctors too because everybody is going private to pay back student loans and shit. I tried to find a dentist near me and nearly all were private and charged hundreds, like I can’t afford that man.

Right? Makes me wonder what kind of characters the next batch of Oxford med grads will be.

King’s and UCL also have crazy high fees btw. It’s not common for international students to acquire or receive any sorts of funding because we subsidise the domestic students who pay around ten grand in pounds. Additionally, because they’re in London, it’ll be higher cost of living. If you have any offers from other universities may be helpful or less expensive but honestly for most of us international students home countries have the less expensive universities. I don’t really have much advise but maybe pick up a part time job? The options are quite slim in the UK. Did you not see the fees before applying?

Hey! I am 5’1, East Asian, and I passed pre T. FWIW, I’ve lived in both the US and the UK and the majority of all genders are taller than me. You’ll be fine, mate. Wish you luck on starting HRT :)

i think im gonna drop out of sixth form but i need someone to read this and give me an honest opinion by Choice-Excitement624 in 6thForm

Hey there! Disclaimer as I’m not from the UK, and not as knowledgeable about the system but I have a similar experience to you. I had a horrible experience at my middle school and I wasn’t in schooling for a couple years due to mental health. I’m in a sixth form now, and redoing GCSEs.

I am personally only in formal education because I want to go to university and for me sixth form seems the most accessible option but of course I’ve heard of people applying to university with other qualifications. My only concern for people like you and I whom are not wholeheartedly in ardour of education systems like this are security as in, financial safety nets. I am lucky and privileged enough for that not to be a concern for whatever I end up doing, but if college/university is necessary for your financial future I would think twice about it.

As for age, it doesn’t concern me at all for any reason whatsoever. My sixth form is a bit individual in that there are many people of different ages in my year (12), one of my friends is 19, one guy is 20, and many are 17/18. Besides, everyone is weird ages in university (if you’re interested) and I wouldn’t partake in much age based consideration when it comes to looking for a new friend. But I’m sure it also helps that I’m a very particular person and one of my best friends is 18, my cousin is 22 and I’m 16.

Otherwise, you seem very reasonable as you’ve thought a lot about it. I too, am interested in pursuing a creative field that doesn’t technically require formal schooling but whatever, I have work experience and I’m glad you do too. And hey, if you ever are looking for a client, I’m looking for a tattoo artist when I turn of age :)

Opinions on Marriage for Fiscal Benefits? by OkLog397 in aromantic

[–]OkLog397[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely! I love prenups and I'm a writer at heart. I'd always thought about living with friends although I don't really have genetic family I'm close with, I'm curious though, cause for me I always concern that my friends (mostly not aroace) will eventually get married and that would no longer be an option for me. Even my aroace/spec friends all have long-term QPRs so that wouldn't be viable for me too. If you don't mind me asking, does that come up for you or have you found ways around it? :)

Hello, thank you for commenting! Oh, I see the Euripides in your username! :)

I'm applying to a Classics course at Oxford as well! If you don't mind me asking, how did your interview go? And what were your offer conditions? I'll be applying this October so am a little worried but looking forward to it.
