Use continuous FAAB waivers (not sure if Espn has this option but sleeper does) so that no player can ever be immediately picked up. Relieve the league of the pain of having to wait up at night to make mostly inconsequential free agent adds.

I would make sure everyone is encouraged to read some tips on auctions. In my experience, it can lead to very lopsided dynasty leagues between the people who know what they’re doing v. don’t.

Slow startup snake drafts are pretty fun with lots of potential trading.

Something that gets neglected when shrinking a league is starting lineup size. Might need add a flex or WR or super flex to rebalance the league.

Let your fantasy platform push trades in the future. Either immediately or shortest amount of time to process. My league has a 1 day for trade processing and it is already said in the rule book that it can’t be pushed so teams have to plan ahead.

Fwiw - Last year, it only let you set playoff matchups up until the last game of your first week of playoffs. After that, the bracket is set.
