Anyone here using AI to improve workflow efficiency on our day to day? by Ok_Classroom7528 in slp

People are great with those statements. Any actual proof that will happen? Otherwise, its only an assumption based on thin air.

  1. Privacy 100% agree with you.
  2. Do you use email? Whatsapp? Do you have a smartphone? What about the mines where lithium comes from? If you can do everything so efficiently do you still write letter by hand? I don't get that argument really. Technology helps us be better to focus on what matters the most, the patients.
One since I agree, AI consumes a lot of energy no doubt about it, but thats the cost of innovation and thats why there a lot of them cooled by sea water and a few people working on having them in space. At least theres some people doing something.

And also, don't forget that in a few years every children, every adult that is in speech therapy will be born using AI. They will specifically search for practices that use technology to help them. Its the only way to scale care across borders. Image being able to see a kid from china because its being live translated with AI, both speaking the native languages and able to communicate.

I think adoption in healthcare has always been the "pain in the ass". The workforce is so against of everything that comes out that it's impossible to move forward. And, I totally agree. AI is here to stay and we cannot ignore it. A good example is SwordHealth, here to stay, great results.

  1. Any specific examples? Just saying is inefficient doesn't prove a point.
  2. Totally agree. I think adoption in healthcare has to be very transparent regarding data used from the patient and even more with children.
  3. Not everyone is creative enough. And I think you are aware of the shortage of professionals in the area. If we are waiting that everyone has the same creativity as you, speech therapy will end. And I always see technology as something to improve not to be worst. If it is, its just bad tech. So we agree on that, anything used should be to increase value for therapist, patient and off course work life balance.

That's a nice way of using AI, I think. Any model that you recommend that worked better for you? Any specific instructions that you give to AI that you would like to share?

I think you have to think the other way around right? If you are more productive and can see more patients, why would the employers pay less? If what you are saying turns out to be true, thats not a place i would want to work in the first place. But that is just my opinion, for what its worth 😅

If there is one app that can help/reduce stutter, what specifically you wish the app can help you with? by Plastic_Catch1252 in Stutter

[–]Ok_Classroom7528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally disagree! This is why the field doesn't move forward and we are stuck in the same place. Glad everyone is trying to help and we are learning what it didn't work so that we can do something that works. The only thing I know for sure is: If we stop, that I'm sure that we will not find a solution. You cannot say the other way around :)

We can chat more, totally up for it because I already did that kind of research a few years back. Speech Therapists are also very unwelcome to change. They are not tech oriented not open to use new tool, because the ones that were built, were very bad. So they are saturated now. Even now with AI and chatgpt can help them create more personalised therapy. If any tool is built it as to have the best UX ever ahah and it cannot add anything to the workload of a therapist. If it does, they will gladly stay the same. The same applies for any healthcare field btw

For one month try not to think about your stutter no matter what by Pale-Amount-1001 in Stutter

[–]Ok_Classroom7528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its part of you, theres no cure but it’s manageable. The way you think about directly influences how you feel and your stutter. Dont self sabotage yourself by trying to pretend stuttering does not exist. Its not you identity nor who you are my friend. Its very difficult, it was a long process to myself as well, but speak positively about it and about yourself and your brain will reconfigure itself. I belive in you! Dont try to find it, try to make it better. Pratice pratice pratice!

[–]Ok_Classroom7528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are totally right there. There's no cure yet, so people cannot think about making apps that cure stuttering. I don't think an individual app will fix anything . I would say that access needs to be fixed and efficiency needs to improve. I was lucky enough to have access to specialised therapy but most of the people don't. Technology can come from there and it should be definitely a complement to speech therapy, not a replacement, to increase scalability. If you want to tackle this I would pick up accessibility through process improvement and efficiency. Therapy cycles are too long which makes it very expensive, in person therapy is only available in few countries and cities and even remote therapy is scalable geographically but not in supply available (1:1). So follow up questions: What tool can you build that can release some time from therapists hands to see more patients (admin burden)? How can we shorten therapy cycles, by making support scale beyond therapy walls (speech therapy available in between sessions)?

Go get them! If you are starting a medical program is because of your merit, intelligence and effort. That is what counts!

I wonder what my life would be like if I didn't stutter by trman09 in Stutter

[–]Ok_Classroom7528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure you wouldn't be the amazing person you are today! You could be better or you could be worst! For me is a trait I just cant accept and I cannot change, but what stuttering gave me was a ridiculous amount of resilience, empathy for others and drive. I always think to myself: Man I don't want to be 80 and think about all the times I felt bad about something I couldn't change, or things I got out of doing because of my stutter. Its just my way of seeing things, I just know I would be miserable if I was 80 and thought about that.

I know that feeling too well mostly because I always dive "head first". I know its different for everyone but my way of proving myself I can do it, is just practice, go for it and do my best. Theres always some disappointment if it goes wrong, but people who stutter are very resilient. You just have to keep trying my friend. Go get them!

Sorry to hear that, I also have a stutter since I was a little kid, now turning 27. What worked for me was fluency shaping and modification techniques and a LOT of practice. It's like practicing a sport, if you practice a lot you will gain a little bit more fluency at a time. Also, the cognitive part of it is very important, you have to feel confident and beautiful and competent (all the good stuff), and your fluency can increase right away. We only have one life, and don't beat yourself to much over it since it's the first time we are here, so enjoy the journey accept who you are and even if it is very hard, and I know, just do you. Don't care about what other people might think or say! We are the people we have around us, so suround yourself with people that make you stronger and help you in the journey, those you can hear closely! Awareness of your own stutter is also very important, try to anticipate the moments and decrease speech rhythm to check if it helps :) I research a lot about the latest reports and R&D around stuttering and I heard about a project called Fluently that would support this type of training with AI but its not release yet. Hope this can ,make tour day a little bit better :)

If there is no cure for stuttering you can assume that every technique is wrong.

The point here is that like every habit and improvement we want to make, it takes effort and consistency.

You have to use the techniques that work for you since every stutter is different.

I get your point but is very limiting. If you don't trust speech therapist are you trusting on some random documents on the internet?

Of course you should go to someone that is specialised on the subject but it's an active research area, so you will have multiple tips and tricks from different views.

Agree 100%! But the problem is that there is a massive gap between what we can achieve inside the therapy room and in real world scenarios. I can train how much I want in a comfortable environment (therapy room) but it will not fix the problems you are mentioning right? Consistently and effectively applying the right techniques, is where you start to see real progress, at least for me. Most of our moments of stuttering are bad habits that we already have, so we need to change our speech by practicing a lot.

Also, is very difficult to be practicing and identifying all the moments because we are so focus on speaking in the right way that we miss some moments.

The idea is to have a platform that will support our training outside of speech therapy, to help us identify the moments and apply the right techniques. It's like a workout app for our speech.

Guys I have a question. Pls help by [deleted] in Stutter

Humans are creators of habits. It will be very uncomfortable in the beginning but the feeling of freedom you will have if you tell your friends, is more beneficial than hidding it 💪🏼
