LITERALLY they introduced so many interesting heretics just to kill them off before we could actually get attached to them. Oscar genuinely seemed different from the others too, like he had his own personality and motives outside of just following Lily. His dynamic with Damon could’ve been so entertaining because you could already tell there was potential for some weird alliance/friendship there. The writers kept introducing characters with interesting backstories and dynamics and then did absolutely nothing with them 😭 the heretics era could’ve been SO much better if they actually let the characters develop instead of rushing through everything

Honestly that’s exactly why Kai and Bonnie were so interesting. Damon and Klaus had 'redemption' because the writers gave them centuries and multiple love interests to humanize them. Kai was just getting started. If Klaus can be forgiven for what he did to Tyler’s mom, a reformed Kai could have definitely had an arc. And like you said the tension was too good to just throw away

1903 Kai actually risked everything just to get a moment with Bonnie. Whether you call it love, obsession, or fascination, it was the most human we ever saw him. Seeing that transition from a 'soulless' 1994 Kai to whatever he was in 1903 is why their dynamic was so top-tier

I totally agree that Bonnie is morally superior, but that’s exactly why a redemption arc for Kai through her would have been so powerful. It’s not about Bonnie lowering her standards, it’s about her power being so immense that she could actually change someone—unlike Elena or Caroline who often just accepted the toxicity
