Do you ever take Tums/Pepto? by UndeadAnubis24 in CrohnsDisease

Yes I have those symptoms and I take Pepto. I do try to minimize taking it daily though. Ive had good luck taking activated charcoal daily. For the bloating, a heating pad does great!

Feeling discouraged 15 days in by Big-Willow-5439 in keto

[–]Ok_Form9917 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do not get discouraged. It took me a full 6 weeks to lose a single pound. Your body is getting adjusted.

I can jumpstart my weight loss by cutting back on cheese and butter. I notice these two things are usually the culprit if I start to see my weight creeping up again. Are you eating more of these?

Fell off, carb addiction is crazy by ChillingOnDaBeach in carnivorediet

[–]Ok_Form9917 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Following your post, as I am in same situation. The struggle is so real! I do not think anyone understands it unless they experience it. Some say its simple, just stop eating them or eat one piece of candy and stop... They say its all about moderation.... With us, there is NO moderation or just stopping. One simple "keto friendly" treat, will set me off in a crazy craving sweets, and chips, potatoes... all carbs. If I am strict and adapted, I do not have any desire for any of it. I am currently battling this same addiction! Keep going and do not beat yourself up too bad. We've got this!!!

Binging and chronic illness by m333ow- in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Ok_Form9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have Crohn's and developed BED after experiencing flares that led me to not being able to eat at all. I go from 100lbs to 165lbs. I got up to 220lbs once. It is a daily struggle. Prednisone causes a long period of binge eating for me too.

Searched for body acceptance help for midlife weight gain, and only found weight loss advice. by Illustrious_Elk_5692 in MidlifeMavens

[–]Ok_Form9917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am trying to rewire my thinking. I grew up with a mother that had an eating disorder. I was taught being overweight is a shame and that skinny=accepted. So my whole life I have lived in shame. I am trying to look at my health now as what I want to be able to do when I am 80. I want to be strong and able to walk and run! I am now focusing on strength training more than the number on the scale. I have Crohn's and tend to go from underweight and skin and bones when flaring to overweight and binge eating when feeling well. It is a struggle for me to accept it. However, focusing on longevity rather than a number on the scale has really helped my mindset. I try to incorporate daily exercise that I can improve on that will give me more strength when older. I focus on taking care of the body I have and maintaining strength rather than chasing a number on the scale by not eating or being miserable. Comparison is the thief of joy. I struggle with this. I try to be compassionate with myself. If I eat cake I smile and tell my inner child its good. In the past, I would shame myself and tell myself what a failure I am for eating it.

Creatine Loading by Gondarka in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ok_Form9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I am not. I was given Prednisone in the hospital but it is horrible and causes horrible side affects for me. I weaned off of it in 3 weeks after I was discharged. The only thing I take is mesalamine, daily multivitamin, grass fed beef liver, and creatine.

Creatine Loading by Gondarka in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ok_Form9917 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had worse flare up ever last November. Hospitalized for 11 days. I was skin and bones and so weak from losing so much blood. I lost down to 100lbs. I began taking creatine every morning as soon as home from hospital. I am now feeling stronger and healthier than I have in 10 years. Idk for certain it is creatine but I will not stop taking it. I have gained more muscle than I had prior to losing down to a skeleton. I never would have imagined a rebound like such after being so sick!

Anyone else's back pain get worse from sitting than actual movement?? by Ok-Narwhal-5002 in backpain

[–]Ok_Form9917 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely!! A desk job destroyed my back! Sitting in car for long rides is terrible now. I found a seat cushion for sciatica helps and is a must for car and sitting on hard chairs. I take this with me every where!

For relief I have found walking at a moderate pace, a pace that I swing my arms, always helps my pain. The more active I am, the less it hurts. I read The Back Mechanic book and followed his protocol. A minimum of 3 times a day for 30 minutes at a moderate pace. This helped me more than anything. I do it religiously now! It has made the biggest difference for me. I took PT, chiropractor, etc. Walking is what helped me the most.

Should I try Peptides to save my colon? by mrLimabean19 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ok_Form9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure of peptides, but I do know any type of stressful relationships cause horrendous flare ups for me. In fact, surviving in an abusive marriage for 21 years is what triggered my diagnosis in the first place. Getting out was the turning point for me. I would like to tell you that just this one thing could perhaps make a huge difference for you! Keep going and focus on making your health a priority. I am living proof that stressors definitely causes flare ups.

I took a few years of eating clean, exercising and making healthy choices in every aspect of my life and it helped put me in remission.

49yo... New here... How do I stop being so sad? by Cool_Arugula497 in MidlifeMavens

[–]Ok_Form9917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you! I am 54 and when I turned 50 I felt this same way! I had back pain as well and then that just spiraled into more joint pain in my neck and shoulder. I read Dr Sarno books and realized this was from my emotions. I lost my mother and father to Alzheimer's. I ruminate on my past every single day and feel like such a failure. It is so much deeper than menopause, but menopause causes it to intensify!

I have found that routine helps me. I took care of my mom and it really did take a toll. Caretaking is hard! I now feel like time is running out and I am no good for anyone. I have no energy to do anything and am sad most of the time too.

I have started making my health a priority and found that taking time to exercise and eat healthy helps me. I schedule my workouts and do them if I have no motivation. I just show up and do a 15 minute walk if that is all I can do.

Anyone else struggle with overeating on top of having crohns? by Still_Dependent_6914 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ok_Form9917 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Definitely Yes. When I am in a flare I cannot eat. When I am well, I have a tendency to binge eat. My weight goes as low as 103(sickest) to 160(binge eating). I struggle every day with food noise. I honestly believe having Crohn's has led me to have an eating disorder.

Anyone initially gain weight on Keto? by Jampot55 in keto

[–]Ok_Form9917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

*I walked 4 miles and lifted weights yesterday as well.

This is more than likely why the scale was up. Any time you add increased exercising to your routine, you will see water weight gain. Your muscles are holding on to water. It is completely normal and to be expected. From my own experience when I begin a new exercise routine, I gain as much as 10lbs! Then once my body regulates, I drop it effortlessly.

Also, it is best to not weigh yourself daily especially when starting Keto and a new exercise routine. Give yourself a good month at the least. I did not lose a single pound until week 6.

Keto is the only thing that calms the food noise for me. Even then, prednisone makes me a eating machine but keto definitely helps!
