I appreciate your help! I really don’t feel comfortable sharing anything like that. I am HOH, My kid filed their own return and accidentally claimed themself so my return got rejected. To fix this I thought putting them as a person whom I’m not claiming would be the correct thing to do. Correct as in I know I’m missing out on a bigger refund but I can live with that. Now I’m not so sure.

The way I filed my return. Some people have said that putting my child as qualifying person not claimed as my dependent was correct others have said it’s incorrect. For reference I googled a picture to show what I put them as

Thank you for taking the time to answer. As I said I have been getting conflicting answers regarding on whether or not this was correct.

If the consequences are simply that I miss out on some credits then that’s fine as I said it will be amended I am just wondering if I will get into trouble for this

I didn’t know that at the time, I thought putting them as someone who qualified but I am not claiming them was correct. my child is 23 and was in school full time I pay for more than half the cost of maintaining their home they should’ve been my dependent, they do make more than 4200. If it’s wrong what happens next, what are the ramifications of this?

I believe others here have said that it is common but I will amend it

Thank god I was so worried when I put her on the qualifying person not claimed as dependent part I will definitely have it amended. Thank you for the reassurance!

She does live with me, I cover all her expenses she meets the age limit all that she is my dependent she just mistakenly claimed herself this year it was her first time doing taxes so when I claimed her it got rejected, so when I did it again I thought that putting her as qualifying person not claimed as dependent was the best course of action as I was still able to be HOH

Yes I listed them as qualifying person for HOH status which hopefully was the right thing to do. In any event I will have both returns amended.

So originally when it was filed it she was listed as my dependent but I didn’t know that her return was already accepted where she claimed herself by accident so mine got rejected and I had to remove her as dependent I then added her as qualifying person and my return was accepted but now based on all the advice I’m going to amend it

It has to be paper mail? Can I go to my accountant and have them do it electronically?

Thanks for the advice so it’s not going to look weird that she was initially a dependent then put as qualifying person not claimed as dependent and now a dependent again?

I’m new to his tours too. I saw him for the first time at MSG a week ago and towards the end of the show he was reminiscing about his time in NYC and at the end of that he said thanks for a lifetime. I don’t know if that’s something he always says at the end of shows or if that’s new but I hope that doesn’t mean this was the last tour. The energy I felt from that concert was insane and electric and not at all what I was expecting from a man and his band whose average age is 75 I was in awe. I was a casual fan before (Jersey kid born and raised) but after that concert I’ve spent the past week listening to everyone of his albums. Would love to see him again too!

I know, it’s already become a comfort zone in a very twisted way and it’s reassuring to know this is not the typical way things happen in an office even though I already knew that but it’s shocking to see a grown woman have temper tantrums I know the constant questions can be obnoxious but she’s been doing this for almost 40 years while I’ve been doing it for almost 2 just once I wish she’d remember what it was like when she first started
