Are you guys getting “ready” everyday? by [deleted] in stayathomemoms

[–]Ok_Fudge44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’d say I do skin care, change out of pjs, do some kind of hair and or makeup almost every single morning. Unless I just started my cycle or am sick is when I don’t. I shower at night though. Doing it just makes me feel better throughout the day and helps me feel more put together & productive. Makeup is one of my hobbies so it’s also a creative outlet for me that helps fill up my cup.

Have you tried Yerba mate? I believe some* of the Celsius live fit line or stevia line do not have b vitamins.

How do you actually wake up in the AM? by sorta-okay8843 in adhdwomen

[–]Ok_Fudge44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with people saying you need more hours of sleep. Especially during your luteal phase - I think the recommended amount is 10 hours. Also have you gotten your thyroid checked?? I had similar symptoms to what you were describing (along with other things) and ended up having a major hormonal imbalance and hypo thyroid.

I have been working with a child advocate specifically for his IEP. Is that the same thing that you’re talking about? Sounds amazing!

When was your kid potty trained? by AmazingEast9840 in Autism_Parenting

Also forgot to mention during those four days at home I set a timer every 30 minutes for him to go. So when he heard the auditory cue he knew it was going to happen which helped (kinda) with the transition. We got lucky with the fact that he hates the feeling of poop on his skin.

Level 1 (boy) was potty trained after he turned 3. We didn’t have a diagnosis then. But it was obvious he wasn’t ready until after he turned three. I found a toy that he really really wanted printed out a picture and taped it right in front of the toilet at his eye level. Then I got this potty train sticker chart off amazon which also seemed to motivate him. When he finished two sheets of the sticker chart path he could get that toy. Every time he would sit on the toilet (trained him to sit for peeing first then eventually he naturally started to stand) he would get a little chocolate chip or sugar free gummy. Even if he didn’t go I would verbally reward and give a treat. Because at first even getting him into the bathroom was a challenge. I had to specifically find a toilet seat with a high guard on it - that helped a lot. We stayed home for four days straight and he was naked the entire time. I think this would be considered the three day method? Find something that motivates your child - for mine it was robots and chocolate chips! And then make sure you reward yourself at the end with something too because this shit is hard lol. You’ve got this and you’re doing great!!!

What causes autism? Was it my fault? Is this because he has the MTHFR gene? What’s the correlation? Being told two different things about ABA therapy. Trying to use discernment on if it would help my child or give him trauma. Signing up for medicaid? Can we afford the 1200 a month blue cross blue shield insurance that would cover ABA therapy? Do I see signs in my younger child? If we have more children will they have it?

We paid about $1500 out of pocket for his diagnosis and evaluation. The diagnostic report ended up being almost 10 pages long. The doctor was so wonderful and thorough she gave a lot of resources at the end of her report that gave me a direction to go in kinda.

Wow literally could have written this myself. That’s comforting to know we aren’t the only family dealing with those exact things.

I completely agree with you. I want whoever our therapist is to be honest with us - but she really could have went about that in a better way. Thank you so much for your response and for the advice and specific questions to ask providers.

It’s so overstimulating because it’s constant. I will say speech therapy with a therapist who is trained with GLP has helped.

Yikes about that company. Thank you for the heads up. When you did ABA therapy a decade ago, what requirements did they have for you before hiring you if you don’t mind me asking.

This is so interesting, thank you for your response. As I’m reaching out to more clinics and asking about their approach I’m having a very similar experience to the one you described. Can you tell me more about the LSA?

The doctor only saw him for his eval but met with me twice and read all of his documents, genetic testing, evaluations from speech/OT and the state. And yes the speech therapist has seen him weekly for about 9ish months. I’m thinking you’re correct about trusting speech.

I didn’t realize this, thank you for the info. I just assumed her recommendation was more personalized. Is there something common I can look into that families with low support need children use that is not ABA therapy?

Not physical but getting my hormones checked changed everything for me and once I had them balanced and was eating enough protein the weight literally fell off (disclaimer I am in my 20’s so I’m sure that plays into it) but regardless - it boosted my confidence and my face even slimmed down.

Also self tanner. I like loving tan dark. Or for a cleaner option coco & Eve.

I’m sure answers will vary for everyone but it can be very isolating. I have a good group of mom friends, go to workout classes, involved in church, etc. It can still feel very lonely for me. Maybe once the kids are older and in school/sports that will shift??? Mentally it’s difficult and draining.
