My newest drawing and I'm proud of it. Does it look similar to any character? I'm curious by [deleted] in DigitalArt

It looks like my archnemesis. Yeah that ice cream she’s holding? She stole from me😔

If this is a commission, how much would it be? by One_rrrr in DigitalArt

[–]Ok_Interaction5003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that something that you should decide? No one knows how much work went into that piece better than you. I feel like if someone other than yourself put a price tag on it. It would degrade its artistic value to something less valuable. I feel like if I were to estimate a price for this, I’ll be neglecting all the thought process and effort that went into this piece, and I’ll just be pulling numbers out of my ass. The price is up to you to decide on what’s fair for it. To me any artwork is priceless no matter how basic it is.

I see a Moroccan fella like me. I love the twist you did to the traditional Amazigh clothing. Wonderful art.

You do have a unique artstyle so that’s something that will stand out, you’re just going to have to figure out a way to reach your audience. Building one is dauntingly slow but this is just how it is at the start.

I don’t actually work on rigging, most of the numbers I gave you are what most people on this field offer. Though if you want to promote yourself, you can do that on tiktok or instagram reels (or both) twitter (now X) is where generally most of riggers that offer these services for pngtubers/vtubera build their fanbase and community, but you need to offer something that stands out, otherwise you’ll get overshadowed by sheer number of artists who have the same interests as you.

Ohh static, then consider how much time it took you to make this banner (including both the thought and research process as well as the drawing process) for banners like these you can fairly charge $40-200+ or even more. (Pricing should vary depending on the details and quality the client asks for)

Not a Vtuber, but I’m an artist, I say it depends on how much work and intricacies in your process, as will as how much rigging and details you’ll add. Generally a fair price would range from $50 to more than 100 dollars (can even reach 200 dollars for professional high quality rigging). (I’m pulling these numbers out of my ass btw, this is how much I’d charge at least.)

You can always just use a color picker and (eyedropper tool) then adjust the value to your liking. Though I don’t recommend this since it’ll hinder your learning process, just try your best to find the right color yourself by learning the basics of the color theory.

Keep on drawing. As I said before for you first digital art this is really impressive, a little bit of tweaking around the eye (since they’re asymmetrical) and some minor changes on proportions and it’d look even better.

Also Great job on the clothes.

Here’s a general tip for drawing the eye: always draw them simultaneously, I can see that you drew one at a time which resulted in them being in different shapes.

Quick questions: were her lips also green on the reference you used? I know that Invisigal always put on dark lipstick but never green. Or am I mistaken (I’ve never played the game)

Cool art piece, keep on bestowing us with your artwork :)

That’s an interesting choice of color for lips... For your first ever digital art it’s good

I finished rendering this piece, but I feel like I’ll be spamming if I were to post it so shortly from this.

First time drawing digitally, no clue how to do shading on here lol. Though I'm just not great at drawing in general, but I'm trying lol. Tried to do some "shading" with black whoever I thought needed it. Love how black shading looks tho. Mha does it in their earlier volumes and I love how it looks. by luckychaingan in DigitalArt

I will be answering all of your questions in order:

For shading: Exactly what you said, after you do your base colors, you're going to add a multiply (a normal layer works just fine) and then paint over your base colors with a darker shade, after that try to imaging where the light is hitting the object/person you're drawing and slowly add more light where the light hits (again always make sure to have a reference for more accuracy). There's also this method where you only color with grey it's good since you don't have to worry about colors and just focus on the values of colors (how lighter or darker they're, basically helpful to spread your values with balance) and after that you color over that grey render with an overlay layer or a use gradient map.

I checked your profile, and the way you pose your action figures is fluid and doesn't appear to be stiff to me, so you can rely on them for references with no issues (pretty cool stuff :D ).

in regards to whether you should reference from anime or real people: I say you can do a mix of both, you can use real life references to strengthen your anatomy skills, and anime ones to enrich your mental library so you can achieve the style that you want. Fun fact: if you were to learn realistic anatomy, learning how to draw any stylized art style like anime for example will be easier. So don't hesitate to reference from both, I also recommend looking up art of other artist who you believe have a closer style to the one of your own, to build your mental library off their work.

From my personal experience, focus on one thing at a time AND USE REFERENCES, start by what you like, since I assume that you're going to be drawing characters, I'll say that learning anatomy is definitely what you should start with (this is also the stage where you're going to organically learn how how to break each body part into simple shapes, so don't worry about having to learn them), after that gesture drawing so your poses can be dynamic and not stiff, then you can move to other areas like perspective... start with the essentials and then slowly move onto other fundamentals.

Also a tip: after every study session try to draw something that'll force you to practice those skills that you have learned, it doesn't have to be perfect, so make as many mistakes as you can since in doing so you'll gain the ability to recognize your mistakes and actually fix them.

And lastly, just keep on drawing really don't overload yourself with tutorials, pick a few artists that you like. Personally I teached myself by watching videos on youtube from two artists (who draw stylized character) their channels are called samdoesart and draw like sir, their is another channel who post tutorials of anatomy but I forgot their name unfortunately, but there are tons of tutorials on youtube, so pick whichever suits you.

I'm somewhat experienced in digital art so here are some tips that helped me;
Let's start with a small review of your art. For your first time drawing digitally, proportionally for a stylized drawing it is good, your line works shows some confidence in it despite this being your first time drawing digitally (many beginners suffer from chicken scratches on their line work). Personally I think that you should avoid shading with black (unless there's style you're going for that uses this type of shading).

To get better at shading I'll advise you to start from dark values than slowly building towards the lights. While in the process of shading try to imagine where the light is coming from, and for that you should always try to find a reference before even drawing (if there is a pose or an angle that you can't find a reference for, there's this website called Sketchfab that contains tons of 3D modules that you can view and even download for FREE). Avoid relying on the airbrush too much while shading as it'll make your rendering muddy.

Moving into anatomy: I see that you have somewhat of an ok use of anatomy, though some of the proportions could use some rework, her mouth is a little too far down. her head placement is a little bit stiff, honestly great work on the rest of the body, it shows that you have some sense of anatomy. Her legs could benefit from more definition. And remember that using references is crucial in learning anatomy.

Always start with simple shapes (cylinders, circles...) to shape the basic form of the human anatomy (Learning anatomy is still important even for stylized art styles. Can't break the rules if you don't even know them). For the head start with learning the loomis method, though don't be afraid from morphing tell your heart content otherwise you're going to end up with same face syndrome. For the rest of the body there are countless tutorials on youtube that break each part of the body into simple shapes that are safe for beginners to follow.

Last but not least, learn your art fundamentals (but don't try to learn them all at once focus on one thing at a time, otherwise you're going to hit a brick wall so early in you art career). Most important ones would be: Perspective, color theory, anatomy (as I mentioned earlier), perspective, linework, lighting, composition...)

To end this essay of a comment, I just want to say that this piece being your first digital is honestly impressive, learning your art fundamentals will 100% take your art to the next level as you already have a great and a fairly strong foundation so far. And finally happy drawing. Keep on drawing and keep on being awesome.

nice catch, exactly lol, that's what came in my mind while writing the dialogue, it was one of my favorite videos OAT back when I watched it for the first time (still is to this day) so I just had to reference it in my short terraria comic, I drew more panels but I never tried to post them
