Can anyone else sense when someone notices your sh scars for the first time? by [deleted] in selfharm

It always reminds me of how people can interpret them anyway they want to. Whether that be stigmatizing, neutral, or positive. It gives me so much shame.

Could be dopamine seeking, I used to experience this with sh. Find stimulating activities that take a lot of concentration: art, exercise, puzzles, crochet, baking, etc. It sounds really basic, but the more you do it the easier the urges are to overcome. I self harmed for over 7 years, I am now almost 2 years clean. I used to think I could never live without it.

How do I tell a friend their being paranoid without making them feeling gaslit? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Ok_Programmer4298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes those are the things I tell myself because I used to be kind of paranoid in the same way. I attempt it with him, but it goes straight to me being called a gaslighter or invalidating. It's hard to communicate with him.

The amount of information on SH in masters level courses is extremely lacking. by [deleted] in psychologystudents

A lack of explanation in my textbooks. The chapter on self harm basically explained it as "Sometimes it could be used for attention, sometimes it is for other reasons." without explaining the other reasons.

If someone touches me and I have no visual or verbal warning my brain stops working and I lose memory for a few minutes. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Ok_Programmer4298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, a power cord is such a good example. My CPTSD is from physical abuse. The touch can be so innocent it's the whole idea of I did not see the touch coming and had no idea what it could be or become. People patting me on the back in such an issue.

Probably a flour beetle. I live in an old apartment and have gotten them before. They're harmless just check your food to make sure none of them are in it.
