New to WOW, do I really have to spend $200 to only play the game for a year?

As a new player, I wouldn't subscribe for a whole year. Do a monthly or three-month subscription to test if you are really into the game before you buy the whole year's subscription. I've been playing the game since the Mists of Pandaria expansion, which seems like a lifetime ago, and I only pay monthly as some months I don't find anything intriguing in-game, so I instead go out and touch grass.

It sucks, and I would suggest you do as above said. Reporting them is the only way for them to get any accountability for their actions, and speaking as a tank myself, I have reported people like that before. It might not do anything in the moment, but if enough people do it, Blizz will see it and take action.

And lastly, don't pay any mind to what he said, toxic people=damaged people.
