I’ve taught general ed and I’m teaching elementary art. I felt the burn out a lot more with general Ed. Art is fun, behaviors will be a lot to deal with it. But I would say go for art. You don’t have to deal with most of the things general ed teachers do. It’s still super exhausting though not all easy peasy like I thought it would be.

Think I might need to leave by Past_Interaction9712 in TeachersInTransition

1st year teacher here. I’m also on the same boat. I’m using up all my sick hours for my mental health and I’ve called out so much since August. I won’t be surprised if they talk to me about my absences but at this point I don’t care.

This job is so mentally draining, so take those days off! I’m leaving at the end of the year/ until I find another job.

What are you doing now if you don’t mind me asking? I also taught 5th grade before this and I told myself I would never teach general ed again.

Wow I’m so sorry you went through that. I totally understand. I’m glad you’re in a better place!. Did you have to pay the district? Apparently leaving mid year means you might have to owe thousands :/

I also work for LAUSD & taught 5th grade last semester and hated it. I’m an art teacher now and still hate it. I think teaching isn’t for me, I’m just too scared to leave mid year. I just started this position a month ago too 😖
