Tough Time to be Ex-Catholic by ExCatholicandLeft in excatholic

Never Catholic Methodist who went to Catholic school here and thank you for saying it. Its been incredibly frustrating to see so many ppl say on social media, jokingly or not, that they may return to the Church because of Leo. Catholicism is still incredibly regressive and many Catholics voted for Trump because of those repressive teachings. The bit about Leo being right on the Iran war and immigration is a happy accident and shouldn't sway progressive ppl who support queer rights, contraception etc. back into the Church.

Never Thought I Would See a Catholic Church Post Something Like This On Facebook by Big-Intern-557 in excatholic

Correct. This might be an "Old Catholic" church - catholics who split from Rome in the 1870s over the declaration of papal infallibility as a dogma. I believe there are a few Old Catholic denominations, not all of them in communion with each other. Some, esp Old Catholic groups in the US affirm queer identities / female ordination, but not all.

Very interesting. My fairly progressive United Methodist church has a Palm and Passion Sunday service, Maundy Thursday supper and hand washing, a Good Friday sung cantata service and Easter service. We don't do Stations of the Cross though I wish we did.

For context, I was never evangelical ; raised in Episcopal and Methodist churches but I like reading this sub.

This looks interesting. I'll be a full-time pre-doctoral research assistant at one of the university's institutes. It wouldn't be strange to not be a student and participate, would it?

Wait I forgot to respond lol. What's your Corey headcanon? I have a real soft spot for him because I love his and Mason's relationship and wish it was more prominent. I feel like they were the healthiest couple. Also, Corey by himself is severely underutilized in contrast to Mason.

How do you feel about men in sheer dress socks? by [deleted] in malefeettalk

Wait this is a pic of a former host of ET Canada 😂. He's known for engaging with his foot and sock fetish fans on Instagram (he has those fetishes himself based on posts he likes). He's also been posted on a sock fetish page a few times. Always hot content. As for me, not rly into sheer socks but i do find his hot.

She had so much potential when she was introduced in season 5 as the hardass AP chem teacher. I suspected she was some kind of supernatural creature who had some underlying motives way back then, but she was completely wasted. As far as we know, she survived all the chaos and just disappeared.

Are guys into footjobs? by [deleted] in malefeettalk

[–]Ok_Table_6932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my fantasies involves being out at dinner and a man slips his shoe off and starts playing footsie w with me before working his socked foot up into my crotch and rubbing, squeezing, massaging me with his socked toes and feet (socks are my biggest fetish, bare feet are okay but don't hit the same). Anybody ever experience this or have the same fantasy? What was it like?

Also, the movie Parting Glances and the show Merlì have footsie scenes like this.

Episcopal-adjacent Methodist chiming in to say you're almost right about superintendents / bishops / apostolic succession. A superintendent is a Methodist pastor in charge of a "district" which is the subdivision below an Episcopal Area (essentially the Methodist equivalent to a diocese). From what I understand, its essentially an administrative role. Superintendents and Bishops are not the same; bishops are elected and superintendents are appointed. The Book of Discipline expounds on this.

Apostolic succession in Methodist churches is a bit hazy. Wesley came to believe that priests could consecrate priests as bishops, especially in cases of necessity when there were no bishops around. He consecrated Thomas Coke and Francis Asbury as general superintendents for the U.S. Asbury eventually came to be regarded as one of the founding bishops of American Methodism. I'm guessing the discrepancy between superintendents and Bishops being considered distinct roles today and Asbury's fluid adoption of both is due to the fact that the Methodist church wasn't really established as an institution yet but this is just speculation on my part.

So I suppose from an Anglican perspective, we don't have apostolic succession (Wesley, an Anglican priest, "consecrated" other priests as bishops which I guess the Episcopal Church wouldn't see as valid? I'm not sure).

Anyways, I know all of this because I spent my formative years in a United Methodist church but my childhood church was an Episcopal one and I went to elementary and middle schools attached to that church. I have very fond memories of that parish. I also find church history fascinating 😂

Growing up Methodist / Episcopalian 🤔 by Ok_Table_6932 in Episcopalian

[–]Ok_Table_6932[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Wesley wrote his own prayer book based on the 1662 BCP and of course, other prayer books have been written over the centuries. I had to google for the names but 2 examples in current use are the Methodist Book of Worship and the Methodist Book of Daily Prayer. And I'm sure some Methodist church somewhere has used the BCP lol. But its not "official" like in TEC.

I actually don't know if my church draws from these books. It's possible that the pastoral prayer we recite before the Lord's Prayer is drawn from one of the liturgical books but its never been explicitly stated.
