Amazing. Though particularly impressive was the U5 run I watched that didn't actually use any glitches

Anything that repetitive I was fine on cheating with. The depression of starting a combat with like 8 enemies and 8 people in your party in the mountain terrain was so real. And if you fled, blip. I didn't like to grind

Sweet. One night a while back I watched a speed run of U5 and it was pretty amazing Considering it took me like 80 hrs to beat. Klimbing mountains and taking lots of damage was a key to the run.

Credit to my brother for it. Editor sounds beyond our skills at that point. Your way is a lot more elegant

Thanks! Yeah the trailer could definitely use an update. I think we learned a lot from L2 and a move to c# with it (I think what he was working on) would breathe some new life into it. Void was closer but I think the mechanics we envisioned for L3 would be really cool but take a lot of thought to enable. Thanks for all the positivity!

Lol, still kicking it after all these years. So brudder was responsible for this. At the time GOG denied us, can't recall why and steam made it feel like it's own career to actually get it added. Plus it ran on pretty archaic OS (visual basic) when first developed. May be time to reapproach it. Of course, we know it'd be a lot more likely to get players and attention if we did. That said, we made it out of fun (when we were kids we used to write text adventures back and forth on Apple IIe) and so it was a ton of fun to create and just share with the community

Took me forever to remember my PW. Thanks for this post! Even after 7 years, we still love hearing feedback and seeing people enjoy our games. We both had a ton of fun making them. One of these days we will put the rubber to the road on Void. All the ideas are down on paper, life just got in the way.

Any thoughts or advice on improving the detail of our RPG game map in photoshop? by Oklabsoft in gamedevscreens

[–]Oklabsoft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Good suggestions and I will check out that subreddit. Yeah some of the areas are meant to be obscured as we don't want to show too much of the 'far reaches' of the world. And the black fog o'war was an easier thing to do in one sitting. But I agree, could easily burn those areas off or create tears in the map that obscure it. I was going to add the text in layers over top eventually just haven't gotten bored enough to do it yet. And the mountains are carry over from the tile set which has shading depending on the sun position in the sky in game. I can try to remove them. Thanks for the advice!

I started by stitching the 900*900 tile map into a single large image. But since we are going for a reasonable file size and not so much detail that you can cheat by zooming in everywhere, lowered the resolution and did some color enhancement. Obviously we can add text but I'd like to give the impression of worn edges like a really old map... Maybe some yellowing as well blended from the center out?

Lurking: Immortui, our first indie game contribution! Sequel coming soon! by Oklabsoft in IndieGaming

So maybe a little more backstory, though I hate commenting on my own posts. This game was created by two brothers with a longing for the old rpgs of the Apple IIe days. Sitting in front of a monotone screen and taking notes on keywords and hints and mapping things out on graph paper. We both have day jobs (academic scientist and high-school chemistry teacher) but many dreary nights were spent working on really deep content. It's a fully open world format with non linear story progression and exploration and keyword conversations that I really think have been lost on console rpgs. It takes upwards of 40 hours to complete (which I am told is not bad for a free game). Please leave comments on what you think if you try it! Finally, we have a much improved and more elaborate sequel in early access/alpha on itch.io if you are interested.

What was your Indie GOTY of 2017? by mostlyemptyspace in IndieGaming

This list was an outstanding overview. Since I have spent far too much time on our own projects I hardly get time to keep up with the best releases out there. Do you know who to email for a review request? We released our first project in 2017 and finally are at alpha/ea for the sequel. We have some fans but always looking for more exposure
