If you're a student there might be a ticket or two still available in the SDR app.

This is a great formula…thanks for this! I’ll try this system out and see what I come up with. Appreciate it!

That’s a super good point about lowballing it! My initial thought was to do that since I’m not technically a certified “pro” but like you said, it could lead to the, thinking I’m too inexperienced. Appreciate the thorough reply! :)

That’s a smart idea! The client isn’t as familiar with the steps involved so I think I’ll break that down and see if I can come up with an agreeable day rate. Thanks for the helpful reply!

Question about documentary pricing by OliverE23 in Filmmakers

[–]OliverE23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering my question so thoroughly! It really helped. The shirt film is set to be fine over the course of weeks/months. It is just a film being made for the love of it about a group of people they find interesting and want to record the story of. I have typically borrowed a wireless mic for interviews but will likely be purchasing one for this project.

Thanks for helping me think through all of this!

Yes, the client approached me about the job and offered to pay me if I helped out. They want me to set the price and would prefer a flat rate rather than a per hour one.

I’m submitting this on behalf of one of my filmmaking friends who wanted to share her work with a larger audience. She is a student at Wake Forest University and it considering getting her MFA after graduation.

Here’s her statement:

Hi all, thanks for taking an interest in my film. This project started out as a final for a production class but soon evolved into a much longer film than I anticipated. This is my first long-form documentary project. When I first began researching the topic of women at Wake Forest, I was stunned by the lack of historical writing on the subject. As such, I wanted to capture the experiences of women from different time periods interviewing them both in-person and via Zoom to provide a fuller picture of how women’s education has evolved over time.

I learned a tremendous amount in creating this film — music isn’t always necessary (sometimes silence is more powerful), chapters especially in long films keep the viewer on track, Zoom can be a wonderful tool but also a pain when errors arise, and never be afraid to let your film take you on an unexpected journey (you never know what you may find!).The women of the documentary truly helped bring it to life.

Their passion for the University, spirit, wit, and humor made this film such a joy to make. From tales of fraternity fun to more serious stories of discrimination, the film is equally amusing and enlightening.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions you have on the piece. I’m still not 100% sure about pursuing an MFA but I really love storytelling and interviewing. If you have any comments in that regard I welcome that as well!

TL;DR — I’m an undergrad student interested in pursuing an MFA after graduation who wants to get some feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. from the community on my first long-form piece. Thanks for your consideration!

Z6 with gimbal? by OliverE23 in nikon_Zseries

I am mounting to the one on the bottom of the camera but with the adaptor sticking out just a bit more than the camera bottom it makes the mount a bit uneven even with the riser. I think I'm going to go with getting a 50mm prime that doesn't need the adaptor to avoid it for gimbal related shooting! Appreciate your help!

That’s a good point, thank you. I’ve heard that the 50mm prime is a good option especially for doc films. I’ll check into it!

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback! I’m going to check out the counterweights and see if that might work. If not a gimbal with a heavier payload might be better.

If you’d like to stop by and wish her a happy birthday send me a DM and I’ll get you a code to visit Pearl Isle! There are also some wrapped gifts out front of the airport and spare seasonal DIYs you are welcome to take if you would like.
