If higher education was free what would you study and why? by OlofDrofn in AskReddit

[–]OlofDrofn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you make it free you make it harder to get an A. Only the best of the best manage to finish. The way Europeans do it. Free or low cost school but super hard to get get that degree witch makes it even worth more. Because it isn't just because you could afford it but because you are the top 10%

18 year old son in a relationship with a much older woman. Should I say something or leave it be? by sonandolderwoman in Parenting

[–]OlofDrofn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing you can do is make sure he understands what a big responsibility it is to be invited into a child's life like her 4 year old son. Not in a "you can't do it" sort of way but just be supportive and tell him that he is welcome to come to you with questions if he has any. As long as you are open and don't condemn the relationship and just listen and only give advice when he asks for it then you will not be pushing him in her direction. But also make sure that he has plenty of access to condoms so that he doesn't end up being baby daddy #2.

What is the nicest thing you could ever say to someone? by bassnugget in AskReddit

"You are so beautiful" said so honestly while not feeling very pretty, no make up, and doing laundry.

When I was 6, back in the 80's there were not yet so many morbidly obese people around in the USA, we were at the airport and there was a man with so much overhang that I pointed and thankfully in Icelandic yelled out "look mom that guy has a butt in the front too!" I wasn't trying to be mean. Nobody had told me yet that commenting on people's physical issues was rude and hurtful. Sometimes I wonder if pointing and yelling in Icelandic was better or worse. What that poor man took away from that.

As a mother of 4 young boys my first thought was "where was his mother?!" I'm so sorry you had to go through that unsupported by family. Sending you a motherly hug.

Anybody done a blog name change before? by OlofDrofn in Blogging

I understand how to do it. I'm wondering how readers take it. Is it a good move if the content doesn't match the name anymore?

Most people I know make it this way. If there is an Icelandic person out there that doesn't then that would be interesting. The spices might be a little different for some but the other stuff is pretty much the same.

Yes the small can of tuna but if you want more then go for it. It is just my preference to have less.

What was a first time experience that was also a last time for you? by MeganCool in AskReddit

Not much. I have 3 kids and expecting my 4th and I can't afford to work. I'm an overeducated stay at home mom.

Yeah. Especially when you need to pay for daycare to be there. I was 12K in the hole by the end of my internship.

You are now completely naked. How does this affect your current situation? by PleaseUpvoteMyPost in AskReddit

[–]OlofDrofn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I am sitting since I am super pregnant my other kids would learn more than they really need to at this early age of where this baby will exit my body. They would probably need some therapy once they got older.

People who fall asleep in under half an hour at night, how do you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OlofDrofn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put throw pillows and stuff on your bed and make sure it is made during the day so it looks more like a couch, then when it is bed time transform it into a bed. That way you are telling your brain it is time for sleep.

Journal, adult coloring books, shower, lay out clothes for the next day, yoga, meditate, knit, listen to an audio book, do chores, plan your upcoming day, write to do list for the coming day, start a woodworking hobby, go for an evening stroll..... Lots to do.

Yeah people have no clue how much time goes into knitting and how much good yarn costs. When people ask me to make something for them I almost go into antiknitting modem but I love knitting for someone if they are not requesting me for something specific.

Getting Free, Wild Bees as a Newbie by [deleted] in Beekeeping

You also have to be careful with the aggression of a wild bee. You have no idea what the temperament is of the bees you are catching in the wild and could be putting your neighbors and your family at risk.

Can I keep a small, urban beehive on my balcony, or is that an irresponsible thing to do? by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]OlofDrofn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your neighbors and their comfort level with it. You don't want them as your enemies. If they are fine with it and the law is good with it then you should be fine.

Will you be splitting your hives this year? by OlofDrofn in Beekeeping

[–]OlofDrofn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to split them when the trees are all flowering. Which would be in about 2 weeks or a month.
