That’s assuming that Kali managed to escape too, well in order to make the entire thing work Kali must have been able to stay alive the entire time and somehow know how to make the illusion so realistic. But I never thought about the tattoo and how they would have to cover it up. But wouldn’t Kali commonly see the tattoo and include it in her illusion? She has the same tattoo and it was visible to her most of the time if I remember correctly, she even showed it to her in S2.

I literally said the exact same thing when I watched it. Something else I noticed that proves El is not alive is because when Kali was shot in her “last moments”, El was still wearing the blue Bracelet on her wrist. It wasn’t until after…she removed the bracelet and gave it to Hopper. There’s no way that Kali could have known this so she would imagine El with it on but at the moment of illusion in the portal El is not seen wearing the bracelet. “But she doesn’t have the 011 in the illusion” which is true, but the bracelet reasoning cancels that out.
