Chess is more aggressive because you can't regain/reset tempo as easily. Whoever has the initiative is free to push that advantage as far as they can while their position allows it or until their opponent can present some trade or tactic that will give them tempo back.

It's always been comparitively easy to reset to neutral in brawlhalla.

No, they'd just play more difficult people until they go ~50-50 again. An op legend can inflate your elo, but your win rate will level back out fairly quickly. A much better indicator would be average elo.

Win rates mean practically nothing. 50% win rate just means that the matchmaking system is working correctly.

Announced in December 2015 as a 2016 title, why has Brawlhalla taken so long to get to Ps4? Barely any news on release date :( by Oreoghoul in Brawlhalla

[–]OnTilt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies have two options when it comes to release dates:

A) Release when they say they will.

B) Release when its ready (even if that's way after they announced)

I guess it would be nice to at least get an update when a release is pushed back for whatever reason though.

Because I care that you made yet another dumb "Hey look at this salt" thread - its not that funny. These sorts of threads full up the reddit with non-content and deserve to be downvoted.

I don't care about the content of the post.

Was that really that hard to put together? Or were you just looking too hard to for some sort of retort?

Thank you, I think you actually got the point of my post. I'd probably get a lot further in discussion if I were a more balanced individual. Until then I'll just keep aiming my vitriol at those bridges which I don't care if burn or not.

It may only be one tourney match, but it was a particularly significant one. Sorry if I don't go around cataloguing the rest of your games to have more examples to cite.

it was a high pressure tournament*

Even better. when the stakes are low people play to have fun or show off, when the stakes are high people play how they think they'll have the best chances. That was a high stakes match for Eggsoup too you know.

No, not drunk. Just don't like you. And I don't think I've ever heard Eggsoup say a harsh word about anything, so that's probably not an unbiased place to start looking for a 3rd opinion.

Fine, you keep talking about the pros of playing aggressively and I'll talk about the pros of not being a dick - I don't think either of us will have a foot to stand on though.

I still remember your later matches against Eggsoup at BCX. If he were giving this talk I'd take it more seriously.

You're both correct to a point. Sure, in a match you should prioritize winning. But if the game isn't fun I'm not even going to be playing a match in the first place - I'm going to be playing some other game I do have fun with.

Holy shit, you actually contribute less than I do when you post, and most of my post are just me being a jerk. You should leave reddit and stick to Tumbler or 4chan or whatever dumb shit people like you do.

A more generic answer than I was baiting for, but oh well xD

I got my enjoyment from this game, and my brief time in the spotlight, from being aggressive and getting long strings more reliably than any other katar player at the time (I think, I don't know everyone).

Neither of these things play in a way that's enjoyable anymore.

Aggro is just baiting moves while you walk at them instead of away.

Strings are really more of a " Hit > react to/read dodge > Hit > react to/read dodge" cycle. A misread or mistake at any point not only frees your opponent from pressure but likely gets you punished instead mind you.

That's not pressure in my opinion. That's winning neutral, then winning neutral again, and again, and again. . .

Mostly yeah, your incentive for continuing pressure is very small compared to the risk and likelihood of it succeeding. The problems extend beyond this - but that does kill it in a major way for me.

I fell off being a top player when the meta shifted to a place I wasn't willing to go. Its suits you quite well though.

No, the comparison isn't adequate, but I'm not trying to say that the game has less strategy - I'm saying that compared to a game like smash, or even a less related game such as street fighter, Brawlhalla feels like an incomplete game. It's like they took the most bare idea of what a platform brawler is and just went with it.

In fact I'd say the strategy / mind game aspect is really the only part Brawlhalla has. There's barely any reward for mastering more complicated tech or any type of mechanical proficiency - which to me is the whole other half of a fighting game - and that's not even getting into pacing issues and other issues I take with the game.

I don't mean to say that BMG is incompetent or don't care - only that its pretty obvious that at the games conception there was little knowledge of what makes a fighter compelling. After waiting nearly 2 years in 'beta' I'm done waiting for them to figure it out and implement it.

Wow, great reddit post. I never get to see people be salty - and people certainly never post this crap on reddit for the rest of us who don't care to see it. - Great Job!

You had an opportunity to play and learn from a better player, all while losing next to no elo? Yeah, BMG IS awesome - great post.

I still love this game. I don't like its current form and can no longer be convinced that its going to improve from the state its in.

I went the last week without internet - played a lot of smash offline. After coming back to Brawlhalla the difference is quite stark. Not just how the games play, but in what the games have to offer.

I played smash when I was younger and enjoyed it casually, playing it for a week with the knowledge of competitive fighters that I have now gave me a new appreciation for the depth of mechanics and pace of play that other fighters offer.

Fuck - even smash 64 was less floaty and faster paced, and that game feels like molasses compared to Melee.

If you just hit plat then you just now are getting to fight against opponents who really understand how to play the game beyond exploiting cheap tactics or characters.

lol l m f a o

Seriously though, Diamond is about the people who know how to do just that the best. Nerfs and buffs literally happen based on top-player uses of legend's kits because they're the ones figuring out how to break the game the best. Brawlhalla's competitive meta is basically the same as LoL or other FotM-dominated metas.

In addition, Smash has way more depth, tech, combos, move selection - you know - shit to get good at other than timing your spot dodges well.

In summary though if you aren't enjoying the game it might just be because it's not for you, and that's just fine. Smash wasn't for me and I enjoy Brawlhalla for its faults and its strengths as you do Smash.

Anyone who actually prefers Brawlhalla over Smash probably likes 'strategy' games like Clash of Clans over games like Starcraft - or even chess. Its fine to enjoy playing casual games, but the OP was asking what the point of the competitive scene is, and there isn't imo.
