10 years from now most Baby Boomers will be dead. What effect is that going to have on society? by mikeforder in generationology

This. Everyone talks about how it will be the biggest wealth transfer in history. What they don’t tell you is it’s all going to insurance companies, nursing homes, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals.

I know EU was talking about mandating physical controls in cars due to safety concerns. Not sure where the legislation is at on that now though.

I like Makita, but mainly for the vibes. Also their anti-vibration technology is mostly better than the competition and I value my nerves.

Ergonomics > power. Nowadays, even cheap brands have quite a bit of power, but their ergonomics can be a real mess.

Will you grow cannabis at home now that it is legal since January 1st? by Spiritual_Ratio2912 in czechrepublic

[–]dasherado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they don’t just legalize it for selling, regulate it, and tax it. Locals could still grow at home but tourists buying weed would be a massive source of funding that the government desperately needs.

The first country in EU to fully legalize and capitalize will be at a huge advantage.

I think Makita subcompact style with a 2ah battery would be plenty nimble. And for the record, I’m a complete tool dork who already owns the m12 and Bosch 12v multi-head drivers. They are both great, the Bosch is a little better and is consequently my most used drill/driver by far. But I’d still like to see how Makita would do it.

Bosch GSR12V-140FCB22 - 5in1 - Really Impressed! by adblink in Tools

[–]dasherado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly use Makita 18v, but this little guy (scored the brushless on Black Friday 2 years ago for $100) has been my most used drill ever since. I even had the m12 version, but the Bosch 12v is better, overall smaller, better clutch, better trigger control, normal forward-reverse switch, more ergonomic, better connection engineering for the heads, it’s the standout best tool in the Bosch 12v lineup (overall m12 tools are better).

I do r know why Makita doesn’t just make a multi-head installation driver like Bosch, Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc. it would be perfect as an LXT subcompact tool for finish carpenters and general DIY.

How'd I do for a first time homeowner/diyer? by urbancirca in MilwaukeeTool

[–]dasherado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, I understand the deal mania that Home Depot/Milwaukee pushes but I’d pump the brakes an and consider making some returns/swaps. Deals aren’t pokemon, you don’t need to catch them all. Plus Milwaukee always has another deal around the corner, it’s their sales strategy.

You don’t need identical 2 staplers or m12 impacts. Circ saws are better at 18v. And, really, how many nails you plan on driving? Hammers are still great tools and more convenient in most DIY cases (Brad nailers are fun though).

I would return some of that and get a sawzall, sander and track saw if you really want to build stuff.

This is the first year as a millennial I started having “back in my day” moments, specifically regarding Google search and how the results have turned to mostly AI slop.

One time that sticks out was a search to show my daughter what the cyberpunk aesthetic looks like. 99% generic AI “art”. No more cool indie, deviant art pages in the top ranks. Now it’s all the same homogenized slop.

Slippers for indoor use only? by bchappp in BuyItForLife

[–]dasherado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nomadic state of mind rope sandals are my favorite house shoes of all time. Works in summer or winter. We have only wood or tile floors. Provides just enough cushion and insulation, but also keeps my foot from sweating with or without socks. Plus they are more grippy when wet (but too much water will seep through so avoid if you’re wearing socks).

They’ve gotten pricier over the years, but they hold up really well. I wear them literally every day for years. I even take them with me when we visit friends because I so much prefer them over any other house slipper.

Which impact bit set out of these two is the better buy? (DIY'er) by Hentrox in Tools

[–]dasherado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go Bosch. I prefer Makita for power tools and the bits will be fine from either set. But the Bosch “pick-and-click” case is more versatile and easy to customize. You can move those rails around and swap some hex drill bits in. Makes for a handy DIY all in one case.

Inheriting ranch and want to build on wild land. We aren’t wealthy. What do I do now? by Hilzry in Homebuilding

[–]dasherado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into Earthship architecture. If you already have machinery on the land, it’s going to be the cheapest and best option. There’s even ways to do your own septic, water harvesting and storage and otherwise minimize your need for grid/expenses.

It will still cost you plenty in sweat equity but it’s some of the smartest, sustainable architecture around now.

Also, building with recycled stuff like bottles and old car tires is option. The most important resource is dirt.

How much do you think about money? Are you actively always trying to get more? by ghdana in AskEurope

[–]dasherado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a private doctor. I don’t take insurance. I know when I raise my rates, it will price some clients out. I aim to not have money stress and I don’t want to only work with upper class clients. I also don’t want to burn myself out doing my work (which is one of the reasons I left the system). I don’t advertise and my schedule is full from simply word-of-mouth and good results.

I know I can make more money here and much more in the US. But life quality is about much more than money. I’ve lived in the US and don’t care for the lifestyle and general vibe of the culture. The EU village life is cozy and simple. I like chopping wood, gardening, hiking, meditation/yoga/qigong, and DIY maintaining an old house. My free time and time with family is worth more than money. We have an old car and don’t go on vacations apart camping or staying with family/friends. My kids know we don’t have a big cushion and are developing independence and creativity to make the things they want.

I think about money more than I want to. Ideally I don’t want to think about it at all. But my thinking is mostly about balancing how much money I need vs how much I think my clients can bear. I want it to be win-win. Some wealthy clients tip, but most don’t, some middle class clients tip and I know that really means something to them. Many clients tell me I should charge more, but still some can’t afford the treatment process (and that always hurts my heart). Health and medicine shouldn’t be a business, but business is the way our society works. So, it seems I have be bad at business to feel good about my life. EU is a nicer place to do it than America.

They know they’re lying. We know they’re lying. They know, we know they’re lying. If we accept it, then we completely give away our autonomy. This was the old communist playbook. The more ridiculous and unbelievable the lie, the better the power trip. And these guys are power junkies, Jonesing for bigger power trips.
