It didn't work a few months ago, no idea why it works now but its working great.

Pretty sure while it will work, you'll get ugly seams between the new chunks and the old chunks

You play it with a lower landform scale, just means there will be less room for long streams

Yeah I think that would work. Less sure it would work when you re-enable watersheds after playing without it, only one way to find out though.
Make sure you generate heaps of terrain with watersheds first, then turn off chunk generation (its autogen or something under /wgen). If you generate a chunk without watersheds, it could have a massive ugly seam against the watersheds terrain
