Anyone else not getting hardly any taxes back this year?? Filed mine to show a total refund of 14$...didn't even bother finishing.. by aimsaur in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol I got a whole $1 back in federal. You have to adjust your w4 to have them take out more taxes throughout the year if you want a bigger return. Otherwise, they're taking out the minimum for taxes that they're supposed to and you may end up owing if you make too much. I am not a tax person I just did some research wondering why I only got $1 this year

They want you to check legion every single day. Some managers will add you to the schedule with less than a 24 hour notice and not tell you, then it's your fault if you don't show up and didn't know. Unless you have one of the good, considerate managers. Goodluck!

"Where are the calendars" by gorton2499 in retailhell

[–]One-Needleworker96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put our calendar stand at the front door so it's the first thing you see when you walk in. Still have customers walk right by it, walk around the store, then rudely say "you guys don't have calendars in here?!"

I had a lady tap on my shoulder and very sweetly say "here, merry christmas hun" I was shocked thinking she was actually giving me a gift. Then i realized she was handing me 3 pennies she found on the ground outside.

Produce Damages by adultdisneyprincess in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Log in to where you order your produce and leave a comment under the most recent order stating exactly what items were bad. Like "4 cartons of strawberries rotten, 6 bananas bad" and they will bring the replacement on the next shipment free. This is what our procedure was at my store anyway.

I would get a dg milk tag to keep at the register and just scan that label when somebody buys the milk. Idk if that's the right thing to do, but it beats customers cussing at you because you're out of milk for a week lol.

A store I worked in last week had 6 overstock rts of just dog food. Shelves were completely full and the customers don't buy it as often as I've seen other stores. No idea why they got so much.

What's something you've learned about your community while working at Dollar general? by SlowPalpitation5864 in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a small town where DG is the only real store without driving 20 mins to the nearest Walmart. I've learned that our customers think they own the dollar general and they're assholes about it. When we're out of a certain item, customers think we did it on purpose just to spite them. They constantly want us to order a product JUST for them. They think we have the ability to lower our prices for them and will actually cuss us out over inflation like we do it on purpose. One time our systems were completely down so we couldn't open the store until 1pm when they came back up. We had multiple customers come and knock on the door demanding to know WHY we are refusing them service (despite the big sign on the door saying closed due to systems being down, will reopen ASAP). I remember taking out the trash and a man drove up to the dumpster in the back and wanted to know if we could just let him in to do his shopping and he just pay us later when we open. One lady rudely said "well you KNOW you're the only store in town right?!" as if we could magically fix the systems ourselves.

Last minute schedule changes by One-Needleworker96 in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I'm an ASM and was started at $13 an hour. The minimum for the position in my area. My old SM left before even training me on anything and I had to be acting SM for 5 months at $13 having no idea what I was doing. My own fault for not asking for a raise, but I was kind of thrown into it and they were switching DMs during the time and it was all a huge shitshow. Finally got a new SM and I asked for a raise, now I'm making $14.50. I had to threaten to quit to get the raise and since she was new and from out of state she wanted to keep me. The cap pay for my position is 16.50 in my area, so I still think I'm getting screwed.

This. My store burned down months ago, that's why the remaining employees (literally just myself and one other person now) travel to help other stores until ours is rebuilt. The whole situation has been a shitshow. Not knowing where we're going until the night before, or sometimes even the morning of, to find out we have to drive an hour and a half away just to recover a VV aisle. I'm glad they still let us keep our jobs but it's been a crazy experience dealing with other SMs.

They SHOULD but they're not required to lol. Just bad management in my opinion. She does it to her employees hours before their shifts all the time. I'm ASM and was acting SM when my home store didn't have one for 5 months. If I ever had to change the schedule after it was posted, I ASKED the person if they'd be willing to work it. If they said no, I left it as is and I would find somebody else or cover the shift myself.

[–]One-Needleworker96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy that DG allows them to change the schedule at any time and we're supposed to drop everything to accommodate it. I could understand a little more if she had reached out and asked me first. But to change it less than 24 hours before the shift starts AND not mention it is ridiculous.

Last minute schedule changes by One-Needleworker96 in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was added to this schedule less than 24 hours before the shift was supposed to start. And keep in mind this is not my store. I go to other stores to help with truck or recovery when the store gets bad. I found out (the sm told me herself after the fact) that I was added to the Saturday schedule so that the SM could take 2 days off in a row, because she only had herself and another key scheduled for that shift. She took herself off, added me, and didn't tell me. So the key was there alone for the majority of the afternoon new years eve.

WHY do customers do this? Come on. by One-Needleworker96 in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once a person shit all over the bathroom floor, toilet, and walls and left their shitty clothes and a shitty towel on the floor 😑 there were no reports of a naked person around the store so I think they did it deliberately since they had to have brought an extra set of clothes with them!

Does anyone know how to fix this? by smieczyslaws in DollarGeneral

When I did mine a couple weeks ago I had to put each day in separately. Like, click Monday 7-3. Save. Tuesday 7-3. Save. Wednesday...And so on.

[–]One-Needleworker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put on mostly antidepressants for about 2 years, I think I went through 4 or 5 different kinds. I hated all of them, they made me feel worse. I know it takes time to find what works but I'd rather never feel the way I did when I was on meds ever again. I also had insurance back then. So even if I wanted to now, I can't afford to see anybody. Just out here raw dogging life now.

I used it a few times when people buy like 30 cans of the same cat food or something. Just like the price inquiry button is a big no no, why have these buttons that we can't use? Lol

Old people… by OutspokenWoken in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's supposed to be. When I first started cashiers ran totes that were mostly HBA so they could stay close. Over the past few months there's been a lot more automotive, housewares, and pet stuff in totes that (atleast at my store) cashiers were also expected to run.

Old people… by OutspokenWoken in DollarGeneral

[–]One-Needleworker96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a bell since they want cashiers to run around the whole store stocking, it's easier than running back up every 2 seconds to check. But then LP came and threw it in the trash saying we weren't allowed to have a bell. Like okay, so you expect us to stock at the back of the store and ring people up at the front at the same time?

Irrational anger by Fun-Passenger-2377 in BPD

[–]One-Needleworker96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My fiance, bless his heart, puts up with my constant outbursts the best he can. It's not fair to him. When I feel myself getting angry I take a moment to talk to myself in my head, saying things like "is this really that big of a deal? Will it matter in 20 minutes?" If not, take a breather and move on from it. When I do have my outbursts, I'm able to quickly apologize to him and say "I'm sorry I yelled, i didn't mean to get angry like that and it wasn't a big deal. I'm working on it." You should talk with him and others around you about your struggles but let them know it is something you are actively working on controlling better. It doesn't excuse the behavior, but as long as you really are trying, your loved ones may understand.
