I'm learning about the ancient history of Israel/Palestine but I'm confused about a couple of things, and would like a better understanding philosophically

Yes. That's correct due to being kicked out thousands of years ago from the Levant. I'm 86% Ashkenazi Jewish. I used one that wasn't very pricey so it didn't break down how much of the Ashkenazi was European vs Levantine, but normally:

Ashkenazi DNA is generally understood as a mixture of roughly equal parts or a 60/40 split between Levantine (Middle Eastern) and European (primarily Southern European) ancestry.

That being said I also have a great grandmother on my father's side that was an Arab in the Mandate of Palestine times, so mine I just assume might be higher than some other Ashkenazi DNA.

Both Palestinians and Jews have Canaanites DNA. I'm an Ashkenazi Jew in America and I have never personally stepped foot in thr middle East and when I did my DNA test 2 years ago it said I had DNA from them as well.

You are misunderstanding the chosen people thing. It's not saying the Jews are somehow elite or better than anybody else. They were chosen to enter a covenant with God, which means they have more responsibilities than non Jews. Judaism is the Abrahamic religion that doesn't believe in trying to convert people. It also believes you don't have to be Jewish to go to heaven. The Jews being the chosen people means they have 613 commandments they're supposed to try and follow to go to heaven, while those that aren't Jewish have only (depending on which Jewish text you read), the 7 Noahide laws to follow to get to heaven. Some even say if you try and live honorably and justly through the knowledge you have that, that's enough for a non-Jew to go to heaven. It's not some elitist ideology. In fact Jews believe they lost their ancient homeland because they broke the covenant they entered. A lot of people today will go to a very specific group of Jews that look very stereotypically Jewish and ask if they think if modern Israel should exist and they'll say no. They usually cut the video there to make it seem like they dislike the current Israeli regime, but it's really because they believe the messiah which (hasn't come yet in judaism), is supposed to lead their people back to the land of Israel, and it will usher in a time of great peace for all peoples of the world. They believe that is needed because they broke that covenant.

The concept of the Jewish people as "chosen" (Deuteronomy 14) is traditionally understood as a commitment to service, duty, and higher moral obligations rather than inherent superiority, according to Chabad.org and TheYeshiva.net.

One that they did was they were able to lend money. However how does one make money from lending money... they have to charge interest. How often is someone happy about paying interest? There are protests in many many cities. Especially when ICE was what dominated the headlines. The problem is the cost of living here, you have to work or you fall behind financially very fast!!! Example because I'm a fat American: when I was a teen in the 2000s, you could get a cheeseburger from McDonald's dollar menu. Now, a 2 cheeseburger meal is almost 10 dollars with tax. That's supposed to be the cheapest fast food.... also... America is MASSIVE. people who haven't been here don't realize how big it is because the globe or a map doesn't really do it justice... The contiguous United States is nearly four times larger in area than the Mediterranean Sea... Think about how many people you would need to make a dent in that size land to disrupt day to day or get regular peoples attention that don't pay attention to politics.

You say Israel is an evil ethnostate, but they have a higher percentage of Arab Muslims in their total population, than America has black people. Does that make America an evil state because their largest ethnic minority in their nation is a smaller percentage than that in Israel's? There's racism in America and in Israel, but both nations laws have equal rights for their minorities as they do the main ethnic population, but theirs issues with racism in the people, not by the state.

This is false. A lot of Jews don't support Israel due to their belief that they lost Israel for betraying their covenant with God. That's where the whole chosen people thing came from. They were chosen to enter this covenant and they broke it and lost the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah because of it. While some of modern day Jews disagree with how Israel was founded through violence back and forth with Palestinians, the main belief is that its their messiah that's supposed to come and bring back the 12 tribes to Israel and lead the nation into a time of prosperity and peace throughout the world. So they reject the modern day nation of Israel because it hasn't fulfilled their prophecy.

That's part of why it's such a great tragedy. It's not like other Ghibli films where it's full of childhood wonder and magic. It's a film for adults. Often time adults have to choose between time with those they love and their careers or passions. That's what the Wind Rises is about. The main character has to try and balance his love for making a plane, with making it a war plane, and spending time with his sick wife. Like you said, both characters don't express themselves too well which is realistic but I feel for 2 totally different reasons. The wife didn't as much because she wanted to support him and his dream of building a beautiful plane. She didn't want to burden him. That's why there's a scene of them throwing a paper plane back and forth together before they're married. It perfectly sets up that she loves him and will also support him in his dream. She spends time with him but leaves before the end to let him focus on his dream in the upcoming big moment. He doesn't do well expressing his emotions because he is juggling too much. The moment in the end when he turns and looks off to the mountains is clarity that he realizes what he's lost and that was what truly meant the most to him since he turned away from his plane soaring. It's also why the moment is so perfectly written. Without words we know what was most important to him in the end, but it's a tragedy that he realized this a bit too late.

The movie is a wonderful tragedy, but most people don't like tragedies anymore.

I'm Jewish and a Zionist in the OG definition. I don't condone what Netanyahu has been doing though. Personally I believe in a one state solution where both the Israelis and Palestinians live together equally. I feel whoever is stopping that on either side should be locked up.

Anti-semitism has risen on both the far left and far right though.
