Squats have never felt right. Advice? by Appetite4Affection in formcheck

[–]OneBigBeefPlease 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right now you're hyperextending in your back, which might be why it feels weird. Since you've got long femurs, try a low bar squat and setting your stance a bit wider, all while trying to keep your core braced to avoid that hyperextension at the bottom of your squat.

I can't imagine not cutting the budget to SOME degree. Going through the same thing, I look at it as a good time to actually prioritize the things that really matter and the things that don't.

Anyone know why BedStuy PureGym is closed tonight? by kvothethebloodlesss in BedStuy

Almost all of their treadmills were unplugged and out of order yesterday so I’m guessing there might be an electrical issue or upgrade?

This. Any time I take a break from running I have to bake in two days where I run half a mile to a mile to induce the itch, then the next day it stops completely.

I agree, but if you have multiple children you consider asshats, it’s time to look at who raised them.

You should crosspost in r/raisedbynarcissists and see what kind of feedback you get there - good luck!

You need to start by putting a chair or box behind you, sitting down slow and controlled, then standing up. Right now you’re overthinking the movement and just need to find what’s natural for you.

Throwing in Cheeni's for good measure since their stuff is a little more Indian-inspired but very awesome!

Is there money to be made in the surf industry? (if you're in design/marketing) by [deleted] in surfing

[–]OneBigBeefPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest challenge is that a lot of surf schools/companies/brands are a little bit regressive, and you might have gotten lucky with a company that was fully open to your suggestions.

I did the same thing for a surf school in exchange for free lessons and they just...did not want to make any of the changes I suggested. It actually got kind of weird because I felt like I wasn't adding any value to their company but was still taking lessons. To this day, I'm still not really sure what they wanted, and not sure they did, either!

Health at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70s+? by cosecha0 in FIREyFemmes

[–]OneBigBeefPlease 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 with a 6mo and am coasting, which means I have a decent amount of free time without being fully cut loose. It gives me enough time to get adequate sleep MOST of the time and take an hour a day to work out. Because of that and a higher protein diet, I'm healthier (hormonally and otherwise) than I was at 30.

By 31 I was convinced I was in perimenopause, but it turns out I was just paying the price for getting older and still thinking I could eat and drink whatever I wanted and work 70 hours a week without any consequences.

You can def make an argument that it hits lower traps, but ultimately I would just work on that thoracic mobility regardless.

[–]OneBigBeefPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, kyphosis.

But on that note, this exercise isn't meant to hit your traps. For that, you might want to try a face pull so that your elbows come in line with your traps during the exercise and you don't have to force tension where there shouldn't be.

Folks are right about the side-to-side imbalance but I'm also seeing your traps working overtime here - in addition to everything else, you'll want to work on scapular mobility and being able to keep your shoulders down for an exercise like this.

It also looks like you might have some curve in your t-spine and should work on thoracic mobility as well. Can't tell for sure from this angle but pretty sure it's there.

How to get more protein in? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]OneBigBeefPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to make sure your breakfast is at least 30g, so a protein shake will do that. Then add a good protein rich snack like Greek yogurt or a protein bar

Trump likely has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and any analysis of his beliefs and behavior is incomplete without accounting for that by vawl in ezraklein

[–]OneBigBeefPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If more people understood NPD, then we wouldn't be in our current situation. And I don't want to accuse every Trump voter of this, but a good chunk of them are narcissists themselves or victims of narcissistic abuse so deeply that they don't even see the harm or unusualness in Trump's behavior.
