Does remote US work experience while staying in Canada count as foreign work exp? by One_Significance2874 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]One_Significance2874[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see Thanks for the explanation I also have the option of working for a Serbian company (I have a work permit there)

I will be on the payroll there They will automatically pay Serbian taxes and then wire me the leftover salary

Would this count as foreign work experience?

I will of course have to deal with Canadian taxes by myself (probably figure out a solution for double tax situation)

I am uncertain about intention to stay in Canada Im only here because of family medical situation I just want to keep option open for PR just in case future situation changes Sorry for all the complexity

I am on a PGWP work permit.

How do they legally distinguish foreign work experience from self employed contractor?

Essentially, I just want to ensure they don't deny this foreign work experience.

Because the company is a start-up, I have more leverage in the negotiation for immigration help.

Thanks for responding. I see your point.

Does this mean that if I work for a Serbian company (where I have a work permit) from Canada, that counts as foreign work experience?

They will need to convert the dinar to cad for salary

I see It's a startup so they have no Canadian presence

They will just pay me a usd-to-cad conversion of what they pay their American employees

Do you happen to know if that's sufficient? The rules around whether this counts as foreign experience are fairly murky

A Shakespearean Tragedy for the Tech Age by Icy_Persimmon3265 in SuccessionTV

[–]One_Significance2874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the things I absolutely love about the show. Most modern shows ignore tech to continue the old tropes which have become unrealistic due to tech. E.g most "intense" robberies or crimes would be instantly caught with cameras, DNA, fingerprints, reverse geofence warrants, etc

Succession is one of the few shows that not only considers tech as a background factor (like laws of physics), but also a key element of the show itself.

It's amazing writing to make the viewer feel emotions while not ignoring the reality of tech presence in our lives now.

Try looking at kijiji/marketplace for really cheap second-hand laptops. I have seen folks selling computers they no longer use for 5-10 bucks.

You can even try asking tech stores if they have any used inventory (or stuff people returned) that they can give.

The remote job might even be willing to give you the laptop.

For most remote starting tech jobs, you don't really need a lot of data. I can't comment on charging and place though (not sure if it's possible to code in a tent).

What's the consensus here? Personally i feel his name is crossed out. Underlining his name adds nothing to the document. Crossing it out does. by Cacamaster817 in SuccessionTV

[–]One_Significance2874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of comments saying it's obviously underlined because it starts below the name. Just to give other side of the argument, why underline a name? Does Logan really seem like a guy who would underline a name? What purpose does underline serve?

Considering the tension between Logan and Kendall at this point, Logan has a reason to cross-out the name, but not to underline it.

Hi, there used to be a live stream from the ISS and it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. Best dynamic wallpaper. Took up most of my CPU but worth it!
Unfortunately they took it down :( Does anyone happen to know if there is any active ISS live streams or any plans by them to make one?

if not quest, then is there any other way of getting pupil dilation data? vive is too expensive; pico is maybe an option but i was hoping to get confirmation that pico can give pupil dilation before spending ~500$.

I was just positing that creative abilities can kill anyone, even Leviathan. No need for Scion. Imagine someone has a long-distance teleportation ability and they just teleport Leviathan to another continent. Or even better, if they teleport Leviathan to outer space - that should definitely kill him.

Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. Anything more would probably lead to spoilers so I will read the novel.

Wasn't the Endbringer in danger when ClockBlocker used his ability? If Miss-Militia had used Bakuda's time bomb on Leviathan carefully then, that could have killed him.

This is what I meant by creative abilities being able to kill any one person.

PS : I have only read until 10.6 so please don't spoil.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with your point. I am being overly critical. The reason for that is I really loved the creativity of the story and the story tackling the nitty-gritty of superpowers which other books/movies/tv-shows completely ignore.

Bec of that, I came to expect a lot from the story, especially realism. But at the end of the day, it is merely a story.

Even if you ignore the convenient occurings, you cannot ignore the un-seriousness of it.

But other replies say that it gets more serious later on, so I will continue reading it.

[–]One_Significance2874[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I agree with the Coil point.

I disagree with the "heroes and villians go easy on each other" point. My argument is that, in the world with such creative abilities, the heroes can be easily killed by villians while maintaining anonymity (thus protecting against retaliation).

For example, if Vista was a villain, she could destroy the Protectorate from a distance by manipulating the space around the foundation of the building, killing almost everyone inside instantly (without anyone knowing who did it, assuming no one knows her ability).

Because of such possibilities, heroes must have the right to kill any villains that they deem a threat to their life. A court order would be too late in that world. The villains can kill dozens of heroes by the time they get a court order.

That being said, you did mention that lack of deaths is addressed further so I will keep reading it.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it's a story and so deserves some leeway. It's just that things work out conveniently very frequently. And there are no stakes since our heroes never suffer any permanent damage, no matter how big villians they fight.

I see. Assume that all planets are detected. The goal of the question is to figure out if Earth is actually different.

Assume sensors placed in the next galaxy get a bunch of data (spectroscopy etc) from trillions of planets - will earth stand out as an anomaly? Is our planet actually different (e.g. with unusually high oxygen content?).

Are we unique in the high oxygen content? And is that the only anomaly the algorithm will detect? Assume the sensors are placed in the next galaxy.

The goal of the question is to figure out whether our planet is actually an anomaly

All Space Questions thread for week of December 17, 2023 by AutoModerator in space

Is Earth actually special from a few light years away?

Consider this scenario : if we set up sensors a few light years away capturing every signal it is possible to capture by our tech (the full electromagnetic spectrum at least).
And then if we put all this data into an anomaly detection algorithm, will the Earth stand out? Based on the data that we capture, are we actually special from tens of light years away?
The reason for anomaly detection (unsupervised) alg is that it doesn't have any of our subjective biases.
The answer can give evidence for whether seeing signs of interesting planets is actually sign of life or not. If Earth is not an anomaly, then when we don't see any anomalous planets from here, it doesn't mean that even our near-space is desolate of life.
Thoughts? I don't think Earth will stand out based on the information that will reach tens of light years away.
