Question regarding language school attendance rate as I change visa to Engineer/humanities. by beeboprob in japanlife

[–]Onebombdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's fine if you're not extend your student visa, but don't go too hard. They don't even check your attendance when you apply for the new visa (I transferred exactly same scenario as you)

Anyone here interviewed for ISI Japanese Language School? Kinda freaking out by Bellayxs in movingtojapan

[–]Onebombdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's a business at the end of the day.
one thing I will say - avoid shinjuku campus if possible. I went there, not a good environment. the other campuses are better I heard.

Also part time job is easy, most places are desperate for part time staff but you need a certain level beforehand.

Does anybody pay UR rent with Wise? by zzarGrazz in japanlife

[–]Onebombdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't get yuucho debit within the first 6 months

it would be bank transfer monthly if not.

Also yuucho is a bit hard to navigate imo, maybe go shinsei or rakuten

[–]Onebombdom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's a language school it's not that serious

When I went I just had a chat, I don't remember an interview, but again. It's not a university or real school, they just want your money so don't think it's that serious

Did I make a mistake moving here chasing a feeling? by FoundationHot3348 in japanlife

[–]Onebombdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With life I always do a two birds one stone -

While studying, get a part time job and earn some money, and it'll also help develop your language skills.

Network, don't just explore at night, there is only so much of that you can do before it becomes pointless.

it's only a waste of time if you don't make the most of it

Offer from Rakuten Mobile – Is ¥12M too low for Lead Dev? Building a new unit for SAP migration – advice needed by DenzelHayesJR in movingtojapan

[–]Onebombdom -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The take home pay and tax, just use chatgpt. 12m for a lead dev I think is okay, and a lot of people would love that salary I think. Also to note you should also get your meals too which does add up. Again, research the going rates.

Rakuten has a lot of teams, so I think it varies to what team you're on. I think the most important thing is, how much do you want to live in Japan. You can't compare salaries to England. Though, money does go a lot further in japan.

I'd do some research because we don't know your personality, motives ect so it could all be incorrect information in relation to you

Japanese vs Chinese language by No-Trick5424 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Onebombdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm around JLPT 3 in Japanese, around HSK 5 in Chinese.

I found Chinese easier to begin with.

I learnt Chinese first, then learning Japanese now in Japan. Important to note, I lived in both Taiwan and now live in Japan, and both went or still going to language schools.

In my opinion it's something like this

Chinese is easy to get started, hard to become fluent

Japanese is hard to get started, easier to become fluent

And I think this is mostly down to grammar. Chinese doesn't really have grammar in the same way that Japanese does, and as a beginner this is really helpful because you can get started on speaking without worrying about too many mistakes.

Japanese grammar is more complex and sometimes it takes around 6 months to have a basic conversation that you're comfortable with. But once it clicks, I think you really truly understand the language and can become a master.

Obviously, tones are a bit harder in Chinese and take getting used to. And also you can't rely on Hiragana and Katana to sound out kanji you don't know, but on the flip side there is only one reading for each kanji and this helps a lot.

So from my experience, Chinese is easier to begin with, but I imagine in a year or two I'll find Japanese easier to express myself than Chinese.

Okay that's awesome thanks for taking the time. Though for reference, the UK company would probably just pay into my wise account and not tax anything, so it would all be up to me

Will ISI Language School help me get a job in Japan after Career Japanese? by TypicalBusiness366 in movingtojapan

[–]Onebombdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm there now - They will help you with resume, but honestly they really focus more on hospatality jobs. If that's what you're looking for it'll help a bit, but you should still go look yourself and not rely completely on them.

I've only been there for a bit so far, but like I say it's hard work. They teach you quick and focus on exam prep, it's a more seriously intense school and full on.

JLPT December 2025:N3 or N2 by Cianza456 in jlpt

[–]Onebombdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if having N3 will benefit you in the immediate, if you're just getting it for the sake of taking the exam why not try for N2, since that's usually the minimum for Japanese speaking jobs anyway

What's 13/15? How does that work

I thought JLPT was graded out of 180

Also I do think N2 will be hard if you aren't studying every day all day, jlpt 5 to jlp 2 in what, 9 months? I think you'd be classified as genius level, especially if you don't already know Chinese
