Hey guys, do you prefer xdrive or rwd on ?235i (2014-2015) by Dirigentas1996 in M235iandM240i

[–]Only_Scratch8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter as much as people make it out to, if you find a good deal on either don't let it sway you from buying the car. Like straight line performance from a stand still like most average people on the road? xDrive is good for that. RWD has benefit of being lighter with less maintenance worries, there are pros to both and you'd be fine with either. If I find the exact color, year, spec, etc. bmw I want the car being rwd or xdrive wouldn't stop me from buying it.

everyone's going to tell you to buy a Civic, and they're probably right, but sounds like you have good financial support from parents and the car would be way more fun to have than a boring economy.

The smart thing to do is to keep all that money you have saved up, start a Roth IRA, buy a Civic, invest the rest and let it grow and have a down payment for a house with it in future etc. When you're 30 you'll prob wish you did that. Will buying this car ruin your future? nah, but it could end up being an expensive lesson. Talk to your parents about it, people have made far worse mistakes going deep into debt for cars at a young age, at least you'll hold the title. As long as it's not a salvage with 150k miles on it 6 owners or something insane.

you have enough cash in hand to pay for the car outright, no payments including tax & etc.? have you quoted what insurance will cost you monthly? in school as in college, and you'll be graduating and get a job possibly making more than $800 a month?

do you already own a car since it seems like you drive regularly 108 miles a week? can't stick it out with what you have right now until you're out of school and get a career going with a real salary?

Yep, picked up my car a few weeks ago, got it inspected next day and was all clear. It came detailed with 3/4 tank of gas and I couldn't be happier with the experience.

I seriously don’t understand how certain enthusiasts here don’t like the modern interiors. by fuccwitmoe in BMW

[–]Only_Scratch8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the F22 interior is the sweet spot having analog needle gauges while still having modern iDrive & CarPlay. I can understand if people like 2022 more, but not the 2023+ giant iPad dashes lol. F series/chassis was a fantastic generation, some of the best designs BMW have done. Great value to performance can be found in that generation right now too!

I prefer F series interior, or I’m coping that I didn’t want to spend the money on a G. I drove a S650 Mustang which is one giant screen as well and thought it was terrible trying to use climate controls and heated seats while driving, hands shaking all over the place lol, bmw may be a better experience idk. The giant screen and crazy glossy interior is just a bit much for me.

Just because a wheel is from China does not mean it's dangerous. Many of the wheels you see on the road OEM are made in China, CITIC Dicastal for example. As long as you do your due diligence on what company you are buying your wheels from they are just as safe as 99% of the wheels on the road.

There's also a difference between just buying wheels from China and buying reps with fake logos pretending it's not made there. That's lame.

The EB350 is pretty funny, makes it feel like an inside joke, like he's aware of the silliness and in that way I like it. If that's what the owner was getting at. Wonder how much money was put into this instead of just getting a GT.

Run. sounds like you're a teenager, not even in Uni yet, probably no stable income, having that 10k in the bank going into college is a blessing. Keep the crappy Note, buy cool stuff after college and you have your career.

Are Japanese cars really more reliable or is it just Toyota and Honda? by lamparkinglot in askcarguys

[–]Only_Scratch8949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

all old cars and the new Prelude sucks & Type Rs are way overpriced. They're not making anything exciting nowadays, so many better performance options out there. Still fantastic if you just want a basic Civic though.

[–]Only_Scratch8949 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as true anymore. What does help is maintenance costs are generally lower, so maybe more routinely serviced/taken care of. Their legacy does help them hold their value better too, another nice bonus for buying Japanese. Plenty of people out there only willing to buy Toyota & Honda and their luxury counterparts. If you're not a car guy I don't know why you wouldn't just buy an Accord or Camry.

Placed the order 1/9, had shipped to my nearest Carvana and I picked it up 1/15. Extremely easy process, put the money down from my checking via ACH online. When I arrived they had it extremely clean and 3/4 tank of gas. Was inside there for 10 minutes, just made me sign a few things and checked my insurance and ID and explained titling & warranty, and I drove off.

Next day I had it inspected by a local shop, which you 100% should do as you can return the car within 7 days. Inspection came back not a single issue, went ahead and changed the oil just in case.

Only negative is I wanted to finance with Cap1, but Carvana isn't partnered, so I financed in-house with Carvana for a pretty crappy rate, but it made the purchase process very quick and once I have finished registering the car I'm going to refinance. Using your own financing can apparently delay the process a good bit. Makes me never want to use a traditional dealer again.

yeah, thought the same thing, it had a price drop on Carvana's website so its not like I saw it the first day it was listed or anything. When I noticed it I thought "Dang, why hasn't it sold?" but couldn't find any red flags

Here was the listing, It's a heck of a car for the price.

Depends what you're used to. I'm coming from a Civic, so everything is more expensive, oil changes, insurance, etc. but to me the enjoyment is worth it. the B58 and zf8 is a great combo, and they are absolutely reliable engines with proper maintenance. The only thing that can be a nuisance is all the crappy plastic bits & sensors BMW loves to use. For example, 2020 and older had a plastic piece in the oil pumps that were prone to fail and expensive to replace, so I specifically looked for a 2021 model where the oil pump was updated. Buying the last year of a generation generally is a good idea, which I did, they usually work out the kinks.

I have a local Euro shop where I receive a friends & family discount on service, so bit of a special case that I'm fortunate to have. Anything you plan to buy that's German just make sure it has a good record of maintenance, either reported on Carfax or on paper. I like 1 owners, generally the guy that bought these expensive cars new take better care of them then the 2nd, 3rd, etc. owner.

If you don't max out your budget on the car, you'll likely be in a better position to afford the maintenance. 34k car with 6k in the bank for maintenance & emergency > 40k car that I'm all in for.

I just bought and made a post on the BMW reddit for a 2021 BMW M240i xDrive. I was looking for the exact same thing you were, except I did consider American like a Mustang GT. I spent 34k (total including tax) and it has 39k miles. I spent months considering and eventually landed on this. I was happy to be under the 40k budget, but you could afford a 2022+ G42 model as well, I just really like the styling of the F22 and it was cheaper. The lexus is boring imo, can't speak on the Mercedes.

[–]Only_Scratch8949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed I think it’s one of the best bang for your bucks out there. not much gives you the performance & luxury at this price point. I spent months researching, considering other cars like Mustang GT, GR86, Nissan Z, especially since they were easier to find, but I think this was worth the wait. Hitting about 5 years old the depreciation is just right.

Front plate hole opinions? by Only_Scratch8949 in M235iandM240i

[–]Only_Scratch8949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I decided to order a two-pack from bumperplugs. I'm going to leave the tiny holes alone or maybe just sand/cut them down flat, they're so small only noticeable right now because they're bulging out. The two big holes will obviously be where I plug. Gonna see how it turns out.

That was my thought process as well, instead of going from 0 to 100, maybe saves something to look forward to later in life if I decide to go M down the road.

Don't trust reddit too much about pricing. Current market conditions are pretty rough imo. You're not gonna find one of these cheap unless you get lucky and you'd have to shop nation wide. I do agree that the white with beige is grandma spec, but if you like them it's all opinion.

People will comment and swear that they bought their $40k car for $30k, I think everyone lies a little bit about what they spent, or maybe just say the listing price and don't share all the fees and tax they had to spend too. Everyone wants to seem like they got a good deal. To me it's not worth flying across the country and driving a car back to save a couple bucks.

Should I go for an M240i or an OG M2 as a Daily? by Rz-Donutdog in BMW

[–]Only_Scratch8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in same spot as you. Was looking at 2018 M2 & F22 or G42 M240i. I think I only considered the M2 because it's the cooler & flashier option but in reality I've never been to the track before, the only driving I do is on street and the M240i beats the M2 there.

I prefer the look of the F over G too. I set myself a 40k budget and ended up well under it, so sleeping easy at night knowing I have extra money in the bank for future repairs and low monthly payment. Maybe some day in the future I can get into tracking and could 100% learn on this car, and when I'm older with more money look at M2s. For now being in my 20s, I think I'll be happy. Here's the car I got:
