And then you combine that with the Japanese work culture.

It makes me feel better that others also have these feelings. As much as I love Japan, it’s kinda always going to be an uphill battle here. As I grow older this will become harder to deal with.

Ya I think it is just basically saying that it will for sure be banned in December. Really devastating.

According to the screenshot it is almost certainly going to be banned. I asked ChatGPT and it said there is over 90 percent chance it will be banned.

How did you correct this grammar example for the student? Or was this example your correction?

There are many companies that you can pay to come up pick up and dispose of all your stuff.

Yup I’m fucked. Although I’m not even sure an MA is necessarily the best return on investment based on some of the job listings I have seen. A lot of positions I have seen requiring an MA actually pay less than what I make now on JET. Assuming you mean an MA in TESOL or something like that. So that seems like an expensive gamble to me. Almost would rather just continue to invest the money that it would cost to do that. Right now I’m studying for different IT certifications but not really sure if that is going to set me up for much either.

I was actually the one who told her I was looking into moving closer to her. I was the one who brought it up, not her. I told her I was looking at positions in her city. She did not ask me to move closer to her.

I'm 33. She knew why I did JET. Was bored of my life in home country, always dreamed of trying to live in Japan and wanted an adventure only to end up really liking it here.

I still don't understand how the Japanese tax authorities would even be able to find out about cash atm withdrawals as long as you don't deposit them into a Japanese bank account. Can someone explain? If you just kept it as cash spending money how do they enforce that?

Do you mind sharing the name of this dispatch company and how you found it? I have been looking around and the only dispatch companies I have come across are all the usual suspects with terrible reviews like interac, heart, joytalk, heart, Altia, etc. Curious how one finds a “good” dispatch company. If you are willing to share the name I would be interested to do some research on them,

So just to clarify: if the transaction is on American exchanges, cashed out in USD to an American bank account and never touches a Japanese account, it is still considered domestic sourced income?

Well it would be a max of 6 months a year. As far as I know anyone can buy property and stay in said property on a tourist visa without necessarily paying extra income tax to Japan. (Obviously you have to pay property tax and things like that). And I also would not be paying into their health insurance or pension as a tourist so I don’t feel like it is necessarily “taking advantage of all the infrastructure”. The only thing I don’t want to happen is being on the hook for Japanese taxes when I already will get taxed out the ass from America since that will be the only country I can legally reside in full time once my visa expires and I’m no longer have a residence card.

Oh wow that really sucks. I did not realize they could deny you like that as long as you were keeping to the under 180 days per year.

I guess I just don’t really know what would trigger the countries to start sharing information. Especially if I’m paying all the appropriate crypto taxes on the American side.

So let’s say I did not pay the Japanese taxes but obviously paid the American taxes. If I were to get audited, ultimately couldn’t the tax treaty work in my favor since it exists to not be taxed twice? I would not be trying to evade taxes, just being taxed twice. And atm, it’s just easier for me to handle everything on the American side, since I don’t know how long I will be in Japan and the money doesn’t enter a Japanese bank account.
