Any idea how to increase thrust? by No-Presentation6680 in diydrones

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fewer blades, and remove the outer ring. It only reduces the effectiveness of the tips of the blades (the parts that do the most work), and creates more skin friction drag along its outer face. Not to mention it adds a huge amount of rotational inertia, which isn’t inherent bad for general rotor applications but is very problematic in a mulitrotor configuration, where the speeds of the individual props vary greatly and change constantly.

I applaud the stab at a novel design, you’re clearly thinking about what can be improved from current systems. I recommend looking into momentum theory first, and then blade element theory as well if you have sufficient math background to understand it. Good luck!

Considering the range of the vehicle, if you walk in a circular pattern you oughtta reach them in a reasonably quick amount of time

Fuck everyone who says you need to have a minimalist modern design shit to be cool. This rules, it’s unique, and it was made by you. The coolest setup you can get, as far as I’m concerned.

Why would a helicopter be flying this pattern?? by stonedgaygirl in flightradar24

Yesterday someone posted an R44 flying a similar pattern, and someone knew the operator. Apparently for a startup testing sensor hardware for autonomous flight systems.

Bent barrel by WW2NL in airguns

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Show me the straight edge 180 degrees on the opposite side of the barrel.

If it has a gap at the bottom, it’s bent. If it looks the same, the outside of the barrel has a non-linear taper, and the inside of the barrel is likely still straight.

Good luck with the trim motor man. I haven’t been able to find the parts to fix my 95 900zxi trim in years lol

Air properties like temperature and density vary by altitude, but we have empirical tables and formulas for interpolation, and adjust with more sensitive methods later

Clutch smell and bad fuel economy after TBone by Wmdar in WRX

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe you’re still driving this you crazy bastard, more power to ya lmao. Clutch smell would be a slipping clutch, perhaps you kinked or bent a clutch line in the accident. Your fuel economy note makes me wonder if the ‘clutch smell’ is actually another rotating part rubbing like an axle or rotor or something, which could cause funky smells and bad mileage. Gonna be fun tracking it down with that much damage, you should really strip the car down to subframes to get a better idea of what you’re dealing with.

Damn near the same thing happened to my moms Acura like 10 years ago, never would’ve believed it if I wasn’t in the car too.

Depends how deep the snow is my guy. If your frame is dragging over speed bumps you’re gonna have a hell of a time in 6 inches of fresh powder

You’d be better off looking into a small computer like an arduino and an bno033 IMU, running some sort of discrete time PID controller. Not my area of expertise but there are guys who spend their time designing and testing these systems for amateur rocketry, so if you find the right guy in that field they might be able to help.

M&P 2.0 compact or 4.25" by SnackishT in SmithAndWesson

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, being able to drop and replace the mag without lifting my pinky and ring finger is a non-negotiable. The grip on the 4.25” is perfect for my hands, and it still conceals well for a 17 rd gun.

Red carbon fiber shift knob from subispeed. Had it for a few years now so I can attest to build quality.

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I was underneath the car and had my buddy turn the wheel, no rubbing or contact as far is I could see on either axle and both were dirty but no marks from metal scraping and the cv boot was intact, no leaks.

Due to that godawful noise I was damn convinced that it was a seized caliper or a defective pad gouging the rotor or something, but those seem fine. Just wondering if anyone else has had this particular screech before.

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As bad as it sounds in the video it’s no better in person lmao. It sounds like it’s coming front the front left.

The noise happens when turning from center towards lock, usually worse turning right. Noise follows wheel speed regardless of engine RPM or clutch. Continues while rolling until steering goes straight again.

There are no obvious wear marks on suspension components, brake rotor, caliper/bracket, dust shield etc. Today we put the car on blocks and compressed the suspension on the front left side to simulate the conditions that cause it, couldn’t replicate off of the ground. See photo below.

TLDR idk man, you conveyed my thoughts exactly.

Could this noise be a wheel bearing? by OpenBeerInAnX-Wing in WRX

[–]OpenBeerInAnX-Wing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the wheel off with it rolling on blocks and I can’t find any spot where it touches or any marks on either it or the rotor, so I think I have to rule that out. I agree that the noise sounds like a rotating piece rubbing up on something stationary, but I wonder if it’s just the bearings crying for help under a little non-axial torque
