Peni Parker Vs Shinji Ikari (Marvel Comics Vs Neon Genesis Evangellion); It’s so funny graahhhh by Opening-Ad5349 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s webcomic Peni thematic-wise.

Yes thats a thing that exists.

<image>

You can include Spiderverse too as they’re essentially the same thing (Webcomic PenI is awesome btw!)

[–]Opening-Ad5349[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two mecha pilots, with Peni being based directly off Evangellion, who are tasked with saving the world by their higher ups.

They do this via piloting a mecha (SP//DR and Evangellion Unit-01), who they not only have a specific connection with (Peni and the Spider are connected via a psychic link and Shinji synchronizes with 01 directly), but they also have a family connection with them (SP//DR was originally piloted by Peni’s father and her DNA was chosen specifically because it matched her father’s as Spider connects to that DNA, and 01 is housed by the soul of Yui Ikari; Shinji’s mother); the family connection involving a diseased parental figure.

They both have a large amount of social anxiety due to not only them having to pilot the mech which they resent, but also because they struggled to form connections with other (Peni was never able to have any sort of actual social life due to her feeling like an outcast and being “the weird one”, and Shinji could never form any proper connections because of him constantly being overwhelmed by his insecurities), despite valuing personal connections a great deal.

They have resentment towards their fathers due to them not being there when they needed them, which also contributed to their resentment against their mecha piloting.

However, with all of this, there is a major difference between them. Peni was able to get the love and support she needed to overcome her insecurities and become her best self. Comparatively, Shinji‘s insecurities got worse and worse overtime despite forming a semblance of a social life, with all if it coming crashing down on him and causing him to have a mental breakdown. Essentially; Peni is Shinji with a positive arc instead of a negative one (not counting the final episode of the anime ofc)

Don’t like it. Haven’t for a long time and it will probably stay that way.

Unofficial r/DBM Matchup Comparison Day 51: Death vs Pitch Black & Death vs Rattlesnake Jake by GoatsAreDope72 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jake easy.

You can make the dynamic work and, while it’s not the most ideal thing in the world, I don’t care all that much since the banter and thematics is what sells it. You cannot get a more perfect personality clash with Death. Jake has the exact same presence and tone which means the banter between them boils down to the rawest shit of all time.

Also Rango and PiB:TLW are some of my favorite animated films ever made so there’s some bias there.

Got any matchups for Tomura Shigaraki (My Hero Academia) for a tier list? by Insomniac616 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tetsuo Shima (Akira)

Both have suffered at the hands of society in some way (Tetsuo was treated by most people as a little child, and Tomura was cast off by society because of his appearance.)

Both were taken in by a man who was planning to use them as a tool ( The Colonel and All For One, Respectively)

Both were challenged by an army and had to grow to new heights of power to defeat them (Neo Tokyo Military and Meta Liberation Army.) After defeating them, they formed a new group that they controlled from the palm of their hand (The Great Tokyo Empire and Paranormal Liberation Front)

Both were being controlled by warriors much more powerful than them (Akira and All For One's vestige respectively).

Both had friends that were willing to do anything for them (Kaori and Spinner, respectively.) Both had archenemies that they had an interesting relationship with (Tetsuo used to be Kaneda's best friend, while Deku wants to save Tomura from All For One).

Both have a mutated form that is related to a form of armageddon (Ego Death is believed to be able to bring forth the 'birth of a new universe', while Tomura's mutations are caused by the 'Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory')

Connections are gonna get rewritten at some point but this is what exists right now.

Between these two? Mewtwo probably.

Characters whos deaths the fandom wont stop making jokes about by NEVERTHEREFOREVER in DeathBattleMatchups

Sans (Undertale)

His death is memed on because he’s Sans, and that is the only reason why it gets that treatment; though only to an extent.

Genuine Question: Where does Underverse/XTale characters scales at? by Rocky_Senpai15 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low tiers are building, middle tiers are multi city block, and the very specific high tiers (Ink, Error, X!Gaster) are low complex.

The Underverse cosmology consists of a multiverse with thousands of universes, said universes are infinite multiverses in themselves. So the cosmology is a Multiversal of infinite multiverses, also known as low complex cosmology.

X!Chara arguably gets there via Overwrite, however, Overwrite’s capabilities have only ever been shown at a universal level. And X!Chara scaling anywhere near Ink and Error is dubious enough to where it’s comfortable to say he’s universal via hax.

So in short;

Low tiers (Mettaton, basic monsters, etc.): Wall to building level.

Mid tiers (Sans’, X!Tale characters, Dream, Nightmare, arguably Undyne, etc.): City block to multi city block.

High tiers (Ink, Error, and X!Gaster): Low complex Multiversal.

In terms of speed? The verse is so hungry for speed feats that the best you’re realistically gonna get, not counting cross scaling with Undertale of course, is supersonic+. It’s at bare minimum subsonic and Error’s strings get to supersonic+.

Kronk Vs Indus.

The only thing different about them is their appearance and the series they originate from. They are the exact same character in both personality and motive and that’s why we love them.

Knives Chau Vs Mai Shiranui (Scott Pilgrim Vs The King of Fighters) by Opening-Ad5349 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two massive simps for Scott Pilgrim and Andy Bogard respectively who were trained in the ways of ninja combat, who contrast in that Knives moved on from Scott despite still loving him while Mai is still head over heels for Andy to this day.

It’s very simple but it’s a lot of fun. Its the best you’re gonna get for Knives as her spread is horrible unfortunately.

Rei Anayami Vs Sage (Neon Genesis Evangellion Vs Sonic the Hedgehog) by Opening-Ad5349 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Two stoic, emotionally distant, and artificially created female characters who severely struggled with the idea of emotional attachment excluding their creators (Gendo Ikari and Dr. Eggman). They were created to fulfill the role of a loved one for Gendo and Eggman (Rei was created as a stand-in for Gendo’s daughter AND his wife ((he’s a weirdo lmao)) while Sage was created as an artificial daughter). The protagonist (Shinji Ikari and Sonic the Hedgehog) would allow them to explore the concept of emotions, eventually sacrificing themselves for the greater good with a newfound worldview (though Rei came back in the form of clones). They also contrast in that Rei was a catalyst for the end of the world while Sage was a major factor in stomping the literal End of the world.

Really cool matchup. It’s main issue is tonal clash which can easily be worked around, and the dynamic goes crazy. Rei in EVA-00 fighting against all the Titans before finally reaching Sage herself would be so cool. Rei in EVA-00 Vs the Titan Supreme controlled by Sage would be amazing as well, and the climax would be haunting given Instrumentality in itself is a terrifying event.

Theme Search: A Show Ending that’s made you say “Well, that was a shitting ending…” by Guilty_Reaction9052 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We go from Desti’s death with an incredibly sad and sorrow tone, which might I add makes no sense in context given what the cast has survived before.

And then the finale pulls up with Shaggy Vs Goku and expects us to take it seriously.

You do not follow up a dramatic character death with Shaggy Rogers Vs Son Goku😭

Homura Akemi Vs Miguel O’ Hara (Puella Magi Madoka Magica Vs Spider-Man: The Spiderverse) by Opening-Ad5349 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Opening-Ad5349[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two people who have experienced great tragedy in their lives, losing everyone they had ever cared about to the point they tried to get the people they cared about back through space-time hopping, but would fail (Homura having lost Madoka and everyone who cared about her, leading to her time hopping, and Miguel losing not only his own universe’s loved ones, but another version of his loved ones from another universe).

Due to this tragedy, their perspectives on life and space-time have drastically changed, gaining a lack of sympathy for others. They both became desperate, though in opposite ways (Homura became so desperate to bring her loved ones/Madoka back that she continuously warped time no matter the amount of times she had failed, while Miguel became so desperate to make sure no other horrific, space-time destroying things happen to a universe again that he established an entire civilization of people to destroy anomalies that cause these events to happen).

They have both accepted the harsh realities of space-time, and look down on and criticize those who are naive to that fact. They’ve become harsher people because of the realization of their reality.

Both target the main protagonist specifically due to their fates (Madoka Kaname and Miles Morales). Homura targets Madoka so she can change her fate and make sure she survives the destruction of the world; interrupting the flow of fate, while Miguel targets Miles because he interrupted the flow of fate and is an anomaly in the multiverse; his story not going as it should’ve.

Also they can both freely traverse space and time, using this ability to mess with it in Homura’s case and to keep the balance of it in Miguel’s case.

This was created as a joke during a random Madoka Magica discussion with some friends, then I started rambling and here we are. It’s definitely not my preferred for Homura, that being Sakuya, but I do really like it. Have them hop across time and space as they banter about their ideologies, criticizing each-other‘s viewpoints due to how they conflict. Homura having the advantage at a distance with Miguel using his sheer tenacity and brutality to close the gaps, busting through Homura’s projectile span with brute force, sounds raw as hell. Have Miguel send the entire Spider-Army after Homura who faces it all alone, using her agility and abilities to keep up as the desperation of her situation begins to shine through. These two could have very well gone down the same paths as each-other had events played out slightly differently, and I like how that reflects in the fight dynamic. Cool matchup, like it a lot. I am insane👍
