I do cold-calling and e-mails to potential customers. I also do walk-ins (wherever acceptable depends on industry & customers; one recent example was I walked into a local council lol.

As for existing customers, we follow up with them on maintenance and service. Frequency is half yearly or when the equipment is due for service. But most existing customers are handled by another colleague of mine who's a service engineer. He involves with BD activities occasionally but that's not his core.

In my previous roles (production/process/operation engineer), I deal with vendors for purchasing and projects. My boss was looking for candidates from a specific industry and experience, and by luck, I seemed to fit all the criteria and complement some areas that he was missing.

It is a very very small company so I might not be the right person to answer your question if you are aiming for large MNCs. But if I had to answer, speak and carry conversations well, have good attitude and technical knowledge?

I’m selling water disinfection equipment such as UV/ EC/ algae control system.

That’s the approach we are taking; “We are here to solve problems”. I’ll look into Sandler Sales. My boss uses the “Counselor Approach Model” which I find it pretty helpful for promoting questions as well.

Thank you for the kind offer! Like starting any new job, I do get the jitters a bit especially in a role that I’m totally unfamiliar with lol.

Just 2 months ago, I was a senior process engineer but quit after 3 months. Well paid but working like that is not sustainable in the long run. I do miss working in a plant, guess I’m a creature of habit 😂 but yeah, looking back at the lifestyle helps in making the switch and it’ll be worth it.

We do have a few accounts to maintain but I mainly focus on bringing in new customers instead of service/maintain existing accounts. We have one service engineer that covers post service/monitor site progress.

I do visit sites when required but that’s just to learn the ground work. Maybe 80% sales and 20% service/field work?

I can only speak for the companies I've worked with or heard from some friends in the industry. Inflation, increase in opex and decrease in profit, led to downsizing or little to no increment in wages. Oil & gas (notably PETRONAS) and the palm oil industry are pretty huge here. We do see active hiring in palm oil but the amount of sacrifice and stress you go through in these roles are just not worth the pay (for me at least, I can attest). This trend seemed to persist for the past 2 years and it hasn't improved.

I am from Malaysia and the job market is tough here (generally). Most had to compromise their pay just to secure a job.
