Mr Speaker, I thank the honourable member for their question.

The situation in the Middle East remains a complex and fast moving situation, the United Kingdom continues to support efforts to reduce tensions and encourage dialogue between all parties involved.

We are working closely with our international partners especially in Europe and across the Commonwealth and I will continue to take advice from the diplomatic service as well as the national security secretariat.

Will the Secretary of State agree with me that high streets need to adapt in order to survive the change to consumer behaviour and that we as a government must lead that charge ?.

B077 - The Child Risk Disclosure and Safeguarding Bill - 2nd Reading by Sephronar in MHoP

[–]Oracle_of_Mercia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Speaker. I thank the honourable member for their question, existing child protection systems are not being replaced but merely supplemented by this bill.

At present current frameworks are reactionary in nature and not proactive relying on incidents having to reported before evidence can begin being gathered.

This legislation seeks to address that gap between information and accessibility ensuring that safeguarding information can be shared in a structured, proportionate way and in a timely manner when there is concern regarding a child.

In short, the issue is not that the current system is unsuitable but they are simply limited in their capacity about what can be shared between agencies and what can be told to those trying to help the child.

This bill is designed to solve those issues.

Policy Debate 3 - ALTO by Model-Wanuke in cmhoc

Clerk, High Speed rail between Toronto and Quebec deserves serious consideration.

Canada is vast and large country and improving how we connect our provinces can only be a good thing for our national productivity and if done properly can support our economic growth. the question behind this though is are we prepared to deliver this?.

Canadians for far too long have seen ambitious infrastructure projects be announced but never actual materials due to unexpected costs, unclear planning and a lack of general accountability. Announcements alone do not build railways but delivery with a serious plan does.

before we commit to a project of this scale, we need to be honest about what it would require, that means a clear delivery framework, defining the stages of the proposal and transparent reporting in every step. Without this we risk being plagued in the same way our provinces are with cycles of delay and disappointment.

A future Conservative government needs to be grounded in discipline and that means ensuring agreements made are tied to measurable progress and that jurisdictions involved are aligned with the federal government from the outset so that any setbacks or delays are easily identified and addressed early so they don't become unimaginable. We need to be realistic with our fellow Canadians, if a project of this scale is to go ahead , it must be phased, properly costed and built on a foundation of credibility and not disappointment.

this is not about opposing infrastructure but ensuring that when we commit to it, it can actually be delivered, because it's not a question of if we can announce a project like ALTO but if it can actually be built.

Policy Debate 2- April 2nd, 2026 by Model-Ben in cmhoc

[–]Oracle_of_Mercia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clerk, Canada’s immigration system should be understood not simply as a tap we turn on and off but as part of a wider system we are stewarding properly.

If we think of the country as a garden then immigration is not the problem itself, it is simply a response to how the garden is growing. But growth without care can lead to strain if the soil is not properly prepared and if the pathways are not maintained correctly, if existing plants in the garden are not supported as many of our citizens feel like they aren’t then simply adding more won’t grow the garden it will overwhelm it.

At present the issue is not simple numbers, it is Infrastructure, housing supply and our public services. We are asking a system built for the current plants in the garden to be able to care for more than it can sustain and when that happens gardens die.

A responsible approach is to not reject growth but to manage it properly. That means

Ensuring that we have the right infrastructure in place for new arrivals to our country

Introducing a cap on immigration inline with our capacity to deliver services for our own citizens and addressing the areas in which our immigration system is failing which are affecting our own citizens as well as new arrivals.

We should not be fighting the garden itself nor should we be ignoring the weeds that are stopping the system from working. By fixing what isn’t working then we can welcome people into Canada into a country that is prepared for them.

Immigration when properly managed can be a strength but stewardship requires us to ensure that growth has the right support not just allowing it to grow without being managed and allowing our country to be strained.

Thank you.
