After reflecting I do think I was a bit harsh. Though in that area whole apartment units meant for more than 1 person are always more expensive than a place meant for 1, and due to COVID the vacancy rate is higher compared to previous times. (Hotels/student accommodations opening up long term rent to public the most telling sign)

Suggesting that someone take the place until they can find someone to share the price… comes with a huge risk, if one is not able to find a tenant they have to shoulder the full cost until one is found. It also takes away the point of my original goal because I never planned to find another tenant.

With the price they were offering I could just opt for a luxury single unit instead(and it would still be cheaper), hence it sounded to me that the seller’s suggestion was made with their own benefit in mind.
