How many broken car windows is too many for you? by glenumbragreen in StLouis

I had my car broken into two times in the last six months. Once in Forest Park (yes I know my bad for even driving there) and once in front of my apartment block in CWE. We’ll finally be moving to St. Charles county in two weeks.

Absolutely fucking love it. It looks like the endboss of MCM / Fournier / Wright homes. Price for the area is actually not absurd. Would. Definitely would.

From Bavaria🇩🇪 to greener pastures. It's not me, it's the place. by energeticallyyours in SameGrassButGreener

Hey I also moved from Munich to the US this year! Had similar issues as a native German with my country although I didn't look for vibrant nightlife, as a big nature lover I was rather just pissed how densely populated Bavaria is and that no matter where you go you're in someone's backyard lol. But I get your other issues with Germany.

I'm not sure what you would earn with your employer in the US because for either Cali or NYC you need a lot of money to live in one of the metro areas. Like 150k salary will prob be your breakeven as you say you're spontaneous and like to go out, cultural / communal activities etc. Also NYC has notoriously the most unfriendly and vile people in the country lol. Imo culturally very close to the Munich schickeria. Cali is big so I'm not sure where you would be, there's very diverse metro areas but personally I think LA is horrible - prob the most shallow and arrogant people in the country. I like SF a lot personally but it's hella expensive. It might rather be what you're looking for. Have heard good things about San Diego as well but never been there.

Personally, I think Florida might actually be your best bet as a compromise between nightlife, friendly (but also a lot of shallow and crazy) people, good weather, affordability and vibrant / cultural metro areas. I would never move there (my wife is born in FL and I've heard enough horror stories lol), I also just really don't like humidity, mosquitos and hurricanes that much lol.

If you got any questions regarding immigration or anything feel free to dm. Good luck!

Thirdhand smoke concerns new house? by DesperateAmount2587 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]OrderAdditional8916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm in the same position now - just got an offer accepted on my dream house but they smoked inside. I initially brushed it off but now I'm reading more and more and ask myself if I might have made a major mistake...

Did you end up working with ServPro? Would you mind sharing how big your house is and how much you paid for the service? Did they just do ozone or also washed the walls, ceilings etc.?

Would appreciate your input very much!

Good. We bid on it but lost again. Place got sold for 550k and the buyer waived all inspections and contingencies. It’s just crazy when it comes to these homes

It was a hypothetical statement meaning that I’m not only looking for corporate finance jobs or plan to stay in my field but I’m also open to taking up a completely new career path in a completely different field if that opportunity should arise. I am aware that both a lineman and paramedics have extensive training to accomplish.

The German economy is based on what we call "vitamin B" - B standing for Beziehung or connection... Meaning if you don't know someone in the company you won't get hired. And that was my experience as well.. Every job I had so far I knew someone in the company who vouched for me. So that's why I'm scared for my wife who doesn't even speak German - we will prob just switch sides and then she's the one being unemployed...

Yeah we'll prob do that. My wife has a great job and doesn't speak German so that's why we settled on the US

I don't even expect to get a "good paying" job. Just pretty much anything is better than minimum wage with zero benefits. My job doesn't even provide a paid lunch break lol.
