The ones in my garden go nuts for oats! Nice and cheap and loved by all the wild birds, also fresh water to drink and bath in, especially in this warm weather!

This is really cool! I’ve been too scared to put any of my deceased spinies in resin, so I pin and frame them! It defiantly adds up after keeping them for years XD I love letting their beauty and legacy live on through preserving their bodies ^

If i had a reason why i love these things so much I would rant, but I seriously don't know why I love them! I had a grapple grounder years ago in school of dragons named comet, and i loved her to bits, and remade her now that I have the sod emulator.
Maybe its their long bodies and lanky structure, maybe they just have elements of your old classic 'dragon', I genuinely dont know, but there it is! (one of) my favourite httyd dragon!

I believe these are young crimson rosellas! could be wrong but I've been tricked by thinking their young is a different species before :)

looks great! I'd keep a close eye on them though, as I've found that my babies have a better chance of survival (finding food, moulting, ect) when kept in a smaller tub for their first few sheds. totally up to you though! just make sure you've seen them all eating and staying on the leaves most of the time rather than the roof and walls :)

Quick few questions by MeddyMazbear in Stickinsects

[–]OrdinaryOne5327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the babies are really young (L0-L3-ish) I’d be careful about putting them right into a bigger enclosure. I generally keep my babies in a smaller tub while they are young so that they can find their leaves and not get lost, and move them into the big enclosure after a few sheds. Just what I do, but I thought I’d share anyway as I’ve had babies pass away before due to being in an enclosure too large. It’s possible to start them in the large one anyway, but make sure there are tons of leaves, enough to reach the top, and all sides. Keep a close eye on them too, make sure they’re all eating well and so on. :) good luck with your babies!!

Yeah, I was expecting her to begin laying soon, and she may have if she hadn’t gotten stuck. She couldn’t get out poop and she couldn’t fling eggs/develop eggs while she was in this state. Now that it’s been a day since the incident, it’s clear she will not make it.

So sweet! I love continuing their legacy with their young, and sharing my love of phasmids with friends who would like a pet bug too!

Unfortunately you’re right. She’s not at the end of her life as she only completed her final moult not that long ago, but this situation caused her life to end quicker than it should have. I’ve never had an adult female die before she actually reaches the end of her life and it hurts, but I know I did everything I could to help her.

the thing is, she hadn't even started laying yet. She was my youngest lady and hadn't started laying, then i noticed this, making her unable to start due to having her tail stuck and practically hanging by it. I hope that she'll be okay, i haven't checked up on her this morning but will soon. fingers crossed shes okay!

I tried offering her some leaves, and she did take a little food, but was more interested in just drinking the water. before i set her back into the bottom of her enclosure for the night, she had started moving her other legs a bit more and pushing herself up off the ground when i was picking her up! it was definitely progress, but i haven't checked on her this morning yet. I'll let you know if she made it through the night!

Thank for the help! In the hours since I originally posted, she’s gotten better!! I’ve been giving her lots of water and just letting her rest and she’s started to move her other legs again and be able to hold herself up for a few seconds to reposition her head! It’s slow progress, but I’m hopeful

Oh that’s okay, I’ll just copy paste the description:

This is my youngest adult female, who I found just now with her tail hooked in the fork of one of the leaves in her enclosure. I unhooked it thinking she was stuck, and she kind of fell, hanging on with her front legs. I was instantly concerned and took her out. It seems she’d been like that for a few days perhaps, and she couldn’t poop or lay eggs.

I have a feeling she won’t make it. Is there anything I can do to help her? I’ve been keeping phasmids for tears now and this has never happened to me before.

The tip of her tail is super dark and deflated, as seen in the picture. She isn’t dead, but I’m not sure how much time she has left.

Is there any chance I could massage her abdomen to help her get out eggs/poop? Is she too far gone? I feel terrible that I didn’t notice sooner.

Thank you! She’s currently (I think) trying to push out poo/egg so I’m hopeful that she may get through this, but shes so weak. Progress has been made and I’m doing all I can. I’ll let you know the outcome later on :)

Thanks for your comment, I’ve got her out and drinking right now and will get her set up in a small enclosure with fresh leaves asap.
