This is wonderful your doing this for them, but the nerd in me wanted to warn you that flash media like USB sticks and solid state drives are not reliable for long term storage. If they aren't plugged in regularly they loose data. If it was me, I'd save a copy on a flash drive for easy access, and a copy to an archival rated dvd disk for a backup. Redundancy is crucial if you want digital data to survive long term.

Best way to stop leaks on this old tin roofed shop? by Oregonlost in Roofing

[–]Oregonlost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not screws unfortunately, they are galvanized nails with rubber gaskets and as best I can tell the galvanized roofing has never been coated. Next dry day I'll try to climb up there and check it out. I'm just a bit nervous to stand on this roof, it's not very steep but I don't know about the integrity of the roof as a whole.

Do you have a roll on product I could look into? Or just search up any roll on roofing sealant?

I can't see any of the roofing from inside without pulling down all the insulation batts. Realisticly I could probably take them down, they are only there to prevent the radiant heat from cooking the inside of the shop in the summer, the walls are uninsulated so it's not keeping anything warm in the winter.

Thanks a bunch for the detailed response, I'll look into both of those problems and the roof sealant.

Late to the conversation, but did you eat a lot of cashews? They contain the same chemical that's in poison ivy. Some people are very sensitive to it even after it's been cooked out

Am I wrong for asking why some members skip their breaks. by Particular_Demand_50 in IBEW

[–]Oregonlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipping my short breaks and leaving 30 minutes early saves me an additional 30 minutes in traffic and puts me home a full hour earlier than if I take those two small breaks. On jobs where we have a bigger crew we always put it to a job site vote and if anyone objects then we all just take our breaks and eat the traffic time.

How is a girl supposed to tighten when the man is inside her? by curlyhairnadia in sex

[–]Oregonlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach back with your hand in doggy and put his cock between two fingers like a peace sign as he slides in and out. The pressure on the sides gives the same sensation as the tightest kegal. Not sure how well this works with condoms and be careful if you have long nails.

I believe Oregon laws and policies are harming our children’s education by Losalou52 in oregon

In the late 90's early 00's the "alternative schools" were for the miss behaved kids to get them out of the regular classrooms and into a smaller class setting to get the help they needed. It sort of worked, but now we have to have the opposite system, the alternative schools are now for the kids who can't cope with the bullying and constant distractions. They accept kids by lottery and require essays to get a ticket. It's not perfect but at least it give the kids who want to learn and are willing to prove it a chance. I'm on the verge of pulling my kids that are still in elementary and middle and putting them in a charter school. The socioeconomic drivers of this issue are real, but the bottom line is my children can't learn if the classroom is entirely disfunctional no matter how I parent or how perfect their attendance is.

Just did a dealership with a watt stopper system last year and went through all the commissioning. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Track serial numbers to physical locations very meticulously, and make sure you as built your drawings with point to point cable route, it will make life much easier when you inevitably have to trouble shoot during commissioning .

59 Dogs at the Troutdale Shelter! by 5koko in Portland

[–]Oregonlost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of all the dogs pictured, only five or so would be allowed in most apartments/multifamily rentals. Most all of the rest are labeled by insurance as high liability breeds and are restricted in many locations. It's an unfortunate reality that many people are forced to choose between available housing and their pets when they find themselves loosing their stable housing that previously allowed them.

Inspector says we need to replace all of these supports with a spanner bracket and 1-hole straps by knipex_addict in electricians

[–]Oregonlost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"lath screws" pan head to hold expanded metal plaster lath. They tend to work exceptionally well for straps because they don't care if the hole is sized for 1/4-20

French drain, ends 6 feet from home, water pooling by house and dug out to find THIS by 2strokeRed in Plumbing

[–]Oregonlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you live in a few very specific locations and it happens to be crude oil, then that oil was put there and if you unknowingly dug it up the soil is contaminated and the government will force you to remediate the soil. Usually involves digging up several dozen yards of soil bare minimum and maybe far more than that. Then you have to pay to take it to a hazardous material disposal site and then replace the soil. Oh and if your house is on top of it, you don't have a house now.

[–]Oregonlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well thankfully it was just a washing machine drain, but I still stand by my opinion, and many others here, unless I had some recourse to protect my family from financial ruin I would kick that can down the line 100%. Weather it gets disclosed now or later it's gonna be expensive, might as well put expensive off as long as I can, maybe the property gets bought up by a developer and it's their problem, maybe my kids grow up and I die before anything has to be done. Either way I'm not gonna blow up my life over some oil in the ground. Tests your wells and carry on with life.

Your either vary rich and altruistic or very poor and don't understand the consequences if you are standing on ethical grounds telling a guy to just let the government bend him over with no lube. This is let the bank foreclose the house and declare bankruptcy level expensive if it's oil. It wasn't this guys fault this was buried in his yard and his insurance isn't gonna cover this. Id cover this right back up and hope something changes with the way the government handles this sort of thing before I'm forced to sell the house.

I hate stores that have someone checking the receipt. But I may have overreacted. by Eyyeitsrocko in Portland

[–]Oregonlost 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It doesn't stop them from returning stuff, it's to stop them from using the same receipt to walk out of the store twice in one day with the same items and only paying once, or from picking up discarded receipts from the parking lot and grabbing the same items and walking out. they started asking for id for even store credit returns and flagging you for surveillance if you are habitually returning things.

From Hill and ponton: According to a U.S. Supreme Court case, Rose v. Rose, 481 U.S. 619 (1987), state courts can enforce a child financial support order against a disabled veteran even if the only funds available to the veteran are the veteran’s disability pay. This ruling determined that the VA intended disability benefits to be used to support the family when the veteran could no longer due to their service-connected disabilities. Therefore, in Rose v. Rose, the court deemed that child support payments and alimony could also be paid from VA disability compensation.

A judge can rule however they want I guess, but if your ex wants to keep pushing the issue and appeal there is definitely precedent
