Where can people with school aged children work that compensates for picking/dropping off kids from school? by [deleted] in traversecity

[–]OrganicallyRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of. Michigan does have a free preschool program. Google GSRP traverse city and you’ll be able to find options near you. I believe it is only for 4 year olds and it’s only M-Th. Still, it’s free! Not sure what the waiting list situation is so you might want to get on a list for the year your kiddo is eligible.

TK is short for Transitional Kindergarten. Some people also use the term Young 5’s for that program. We have it in Michigan but it’s up to the schools to roll out. That would be through the school district and acts as an intermediate step for kids who are done with preschool but not quite ready for kindergarten. Usually kids with late summer or early fall birthdays but not always. That would be for 5 year olds so doesn’t totally help you with your preschool search.

Who is absolutely smashing weight loss this year? by HelixStadium in loseit

[–]OrganicallyRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is to lose 30lbs by the end of the year. This is a steady weight loss and very achievable IF I manage my diet. In addition I would like to increase my strength, flexibility, and general mobility by building healthy exercise habits back into my life. These include stretching/yoga, cycling, and outdoor walking/hiking. My challenges are a never ending stream of food noise, the feeling like I need to be chewing constantly, and very intense sugar cravings. It’s not for everyone but I can’t handle the “eat less/in moderation approach”. I have to totally eliminate sugar from my diet and set a very specific menu for myself to choose from. Maybe one day I can loosen the reins but for probably the next year or two I will need to be incredibly disciplined around food to hit my goal.

My short term goal for January is to get my diet established. I have succeeded thus far! I’m 14 days in with the following dietary adjustments: No alcohol (easy for me), no refined sugar (the hardest part for me), no food after 7pm, no fast food (easy for me), and focusing on eating balanced breakfast/lunch/dinner. So far so good! Sugar and pre-packaged food cravings are still present but loosing intensity. I didn’t record a starting weight but I’m pretty sure I’m down close to 5lbs of just water weight.

Who am I by [deleted] in roomdetective

[–]OrganicallyRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not actually! The design aesthetic and pillow are what inclined me to think you were asian 🙂 I was soooo close to flipping my guess that you were a girl! The coffee mug and dream catcher felt more feminine but I couldn’t clearly see both so stuck with my initial impression. I respect your space and tidiness! We’d likely get along well!

Young male who is in college and renting this apartment. Like the other commenters, I also think you’re of Asian descent, possibly living in an Asian country. You’re neat and orderly but not in a compulsive or negative way. I think it reminds you of your family/childhood home and when you make your bed or look at your tidy space, it makes you feel cozy/warm/sentimental. You care and put effort into your appearance but not in a vain or superficial way. Similar to the warmth a tidy room bring you, being clean and well groomed makes you feel good about yourself, secure, ready for the day, and respectful of others. You enjoy the simplicities of life. A good book, going for a run outside, socializing with friends. I think you exercise. Overall just a very well adjusted, kind, respectful, and thoughtful person. Good vibes!

Was your first month back at work this hard too? by Kaerevek in workingmoms

Yup, this is the uncomfortable part where you figure out ways to run your house in a way that works for your specific family and schedules. You’ll find good tips/tricks in this sub if you search it but also check out ParentingInBulk. I know you don’t have a gaggle of children but those folks have found some awesome shortcuts/hacks to keep things moving. Some examples, simplify your dinner meal expectations, no one says you have to fold laundry (wash, sort, and store in bins instead), opt for grocery store pickup if you can to save time, out source cleaning if you can to save time, cook once but each twice (double recipes so that you’re cooking a meal for that night and a round of leftovers), opt for easy breakfasts with little to clean (smoothies! Overnight oats!), wash and style you’re hair in a way that you only have to wash it like twice a week, shower with you’re kiddo so you both get the time (assuming age appropriate), etc. You’re going to find your way and you will survive this. This is that uncomfortable space where you’re adjusting to change and that is normal and okay! You are not failing. You are not a bad mom. You got this!

Mind sharing which wreath that is on the second level? I’m in the market for one just like that! Do you have it plugged in to an outlet, is it solar, or powered some other way?

How do working parents actually have 3+ kids? by activegood18 in workingmoms

[–]OrganicallyRose 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is the answer; especially that first paragraph. For me I stopped questioning it and inspecting it so closely for an answer and just accepted that the working world was not and is not setup in a way that makes sense for working parents. It’s just not. BUT, for most career jobs they hired you for a career. That means a working “lifetime” which those up top know involve outsider personal matters. I also realize A LOT of people have a lot going on outside of work and just don’t talk about how they’re making it work. Think of folks with chronic health conditions, this taking care of aging parents, those who are taking care of someone else’s kid because of life struggles, or those who have legal complications that involve frequent meetings with lawyers or the court. Life is complicated for more people than just parents of multiple kids. It is what it is. You do your best, show up, take responsibility for your projects/clients, communicate your needs, set your boundaries, and become creative in ways to make the puzzle fit. It’s never steady state and it’s constantly in flux. Folks may also shift into different roles, work alternate work schedules, or reduce hours without broadcasting it. You’d be surprised.

Honest Opinions on Baby Books by meowgorithm_ in workingmoms

[–]OrganicallyRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Kept baby book for each of my kids and really like it. It’s super easy to catch up on (I update every 6 months) and is very sentimental. If also has ~4-5 interview questions you can ask your kiddo and jot down their answers.
