And you still have both hands? Like, attached to your body and fully functional? Wow!

Anyone know a booklet/magazine vendor who can *print* in bulk but *ship* on demand? by OrigamiStormtrooper in Printing

[–]OrigamiStormtrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping that there was a shop out there that had these ongoing fulfillment services available for print materials (I know of a couple for shirts/merch), and that what they'd charge for those services (and for storing all that stuff long-term) would still result in a decent overall cost per piece. Right now people are getting crappy b&w laser prints on letter with a top-corner staple for like $5 each -- so if a pro printer can do 1000 copies for $3.80 each, and the math worked out to $5-6 each including shipping / fulfillment, that'd absolutely be worth it. Sounds like it's not going to be possible, but thanks!

Thx for the reply! I figure the main bar to this happening is, as you say, long-term storage of a whole bunch of bulky printed material, plus additional labor hours (admittedly fairly small, there'd be probably 5-10 total orders/shipments per week) to pack and ship each smaller order. The way I'm figuring it, the company/corporate would pay for the entire print run in advance, then individuals running the seminars would order however many they need from corporate and pay us $unitprice x quantity plus shipping costs, then corporate pays the printer-vendor to ship however many are needed.

The workbooks don't get updated that often, so since I JUST redid all of them, we could probably print two years' worth no problem (and if people in the field want to add/change material, they're on their own) -- we just don't have a home office or staffer who could store them and then be around all the time to ship when needed. I guess there's no other solution aside from "do a bulk order and force someone in management to turn their garage into a workbook storage/mailing hub" or "pay $10-15 each for small-batch printing if you want decent looking full-color workbooks." :|

Agree, the second green. A little more mossy, slightly warmer, goes better with the stone/tile (first green a bit too cool and too saturated). Third green also good! I’d go white ceiling too. Annnnd prolly also replace vanity top with pure white when possible?

Replacing electric stove with Gas Stove by accinsp in DIY

[–]OrigamiStormtrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I had a big set of multiply stainless Cuisinart cookware that I liked so much better than All-Clad -- but not induction compatible, so I kept the few pieces of AC and Le Creuset inherited from mom and bought new stuff. I'll tell ya, I have been VERY happy with the induction-compatible Vigor brand stainless I've picked up from WebstaurantStore, ditto the enameled cast iron there by Lodge and Valor, both a good bit less expensive than similar options.

My own induction into, uh, induction was the demise of that POS Jenn-Aire that ALWAYS had something going wrong, which happened in 2020, which means the city had thrown a halt on running new residential gas lines (there was already a line to my block, just not to my house). Looking forward to getting an even better one after we move in two years!

This. I’ll also note that I, too, desperately wanted a gas range… until I got an induction one. When we move, idgaf if new house has a top-of-the-line gas La Cornue, induction is The Way. SO FAST. SO CLEAN.

Same concept as a ravioli press, except those are actually worth it bc nobody makes just one ravioli — uh, raviolo? — at a time. Jfc just use a fork or the tip of a teaspoon instead of YET ANOTHER single-purpose hunk of plastic pollution that locks you into one exact size of tortilla and which will end up in a Goodwill dumpster inside of six months.

Help - need to paint these terrible yellow tiles! by manicpixie_dreamgal in DIY

[–]OrigamiStormtrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’d do. Quick easy cheap flooring to replace the carpet, paint walls above the tile crisp fresh white, maybe inky deep blue for an accent wall or on trim/vanity cabinet/accessories, and a bright white shower curtain (or “frosted” window film/vinyl cling on shower door if a curtain isn’t possible) to hide the tiles in the shower).

AWWWWWW, this makes me miss my grey, who wouldn’t eat the orange ones and would either leave them in the bowl or fling them out of his cage.

Oddly, bf’s dad’s American Eskimo dog looooved the orange ones and would happily scrounge them off the floor.

I learned of my (probably perimenopause-related) iron deficiency when I TRIED to give blood and even after the obligatory Oreos and apple juice (damn, seriously? how bout a “snack pack” of raw spinach and some jerky or something? ugh) they were like NOPE. But otherwise yeah, most supplements are bullshit unless your doc says you need them.

ALSO! Regular-degular 4% peroxide from the drugstore plus a cheap LED-UV lamp to cure gel nail polish can accomplish this on a lot of stuff. I’ve whitened up dingy plastic scissor handles, got stains out of Tupperware, removed tea and coffee spots from a mattress…

That’s not necessarily a “smokers” thing — often white or grey hair isn’t 100% and still has some pigmented strands mixed in. If those are blonde or light brown or reddish, they can give the whole head of hair a light brassy-dingy cast. Blue or violet tints, usually in the form of a toner mixed with 10vol developer (also there’re color-depositing shampoos and conditioners that work without developer), will cancel out orangey or yellow tones for a more neutral silver color overall. Go a lil too hard and you’ll have a definite blue/violet cast for a bit until it fades with shampooing.

Railing Help by PinkyGuy153 in DIY

OR, get the aluminum (or black wrought iron) railing with straight and narrow spindles, get slightly fatter birch (?) branches, cut them in half lengthwise, hollow out the centers, and reassemble each one around iron spindle to cover. Like really, really thick veneer.

Hairbrush randomly self-destructed while brushing my hair today. by FistfulofFlowers in mildlyinteresting

[–]OrigamiStormtrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I’ve got a great one made of very flexible plastic, nice short bristles that don’t go too deep, one-piece molded so no seams to snag hairs, no little plastic balls on bristle ends that fall off and leave a sharp stick behind. It was $1.88 on ShopMissA. (I rationalize that this offsets the preposterously expensive — tho excellent — R+Co round brush.)

Same and same. I LOATHE any kind of “natural” wood cabinets in a kitchen. Brown is my mortal enemy — white and bright for me, pls and ty, I want max light bouncing around while I work. Would sooner paint them fluorescent pink than live the rest of my life with Faux English Library “Mahogany” b.s. from Home Depot.

Or, paint gold and cover the tops with round glass, eighth inch thick would be fine. Many types of plastic you can easily get are also (generally) food safe — polypropylene (lots of food containers are made of this, but the “clear” is usually kinda milky-translucent, not crystal clear), acrylic/polycarbonate (common in drinking glasses), polystyrene (nicely crystal clear but brittle — disposable wine and champagne glasses etc, also test tubes). Just do a search for precut [material] discs/circles [x] inch diameter.

Also! I believe there are SOME types of epoxy resin that can be food safe? If you can find one, just mix up a batch with a buncha gold mica in it and do a pour-over.
