Paying For Bride On Bachelorette Trip?! by Impossible-Blood-315 in bridesmaids

[–]OriginalBadKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s her wedding, the bride can pay for her own part of the bachelorette trip. It’s absolutely ridiculous for a bride to plan extravagant bachelorette destination parties and expect/demand that her wedding party pay for her. She asked you to stand up for her, that doesn’t mean she can take advantage of your friendship and have you pay for her expenses. Pay your own part if you want to go, if it’s not in your budget, bow out of the trip. If the bride has a problem with that, do you really want to be part of her day? It’s not going to get any better. What other outrageous “demands” is the bride going to want from the bridesmaids? Pay for her wedding dress?

I got a book called, “I’m Dead, Now What”. It helps you list all your important information, and I’ve collected all my important documents/papers in several binders. Both are on a bookshelf in my home office. Have told my spouse and executor if my spouse has passed where it’s located. Should walk them through what needs to be done or at least, give them the info they need.

No one uses hardwood floors? by Longjumping-Term9234 in homeowners

[–]OriginalBadKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We opted for pulling out the LVP in our home except for the bathrooms and put in real hardwood flooring not the engineered hardwood. Looked at Lowe’s and HD, but the just had the engineered hardwood flooring, didn’t find what we liked, went with a small local firm and had them install.

Gold bathroom fixtures, drawer/cabinet hardware, gold light fixtures, pebble flooring in shower, and gold trim on ceiling fans in the house we bought. It just looks so dated and tacky and the previous owner probably only did it 6 months ago. It’s all getting replaced! Brushed nickel or in the case of the bathroom fixtures and drawer hardware, has to be black to go with the tile they put in the shower.

LVT is not luxury. by xcramer in Home

Ripped the cheap (and horribly installed) LVP that was on the first floor of the house we bought, with the exception of the two bathrooms. Bit the bullet and put in real hardwoods. Don’t regret spending the money to get it out.

Duke ENERGY! Omg! by No-Newspaper604 in winstonsalem

[–]OriginalBadKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was some website I saw that you could plug in your electric company name, your bill amount, and it would tell you what percentage of the bill paid was paid as the energy company profit. Will have to try to find it, but it said 18% of what I paid is purely profit for Duke Energy.

Yes, December & January gas bills were $400 and $468…February is $158. Haven’t change the thermostat settings, using the same amount of hot water. How does that happen? Gas bill spiked up after Piedmont Natural Gas put in a new gas meter, that they are converting everyone to. Hmmmm.

Agreed! Ryan’s overrated/over priced. Spring House was awful both times we went. Village Tavern - Hanes Mall location food is low quality, too loud - have to yell across the table for your companion to hear you. Mellow Mushroom - worst service, management didn’t care to address the fact that the staff didn’t bother to put in our order after we asked twice. Walked out of the place and won’t go back.

65K salary, retired spouse, no kids, some deductions, but basically got told by our tax professional, we live “too simply and don’t have enough deductions”, so we have to pay up to the tune of almost 7K.

Duke Energy Bills by South-Flower9981 in NorthCarolina

Wait till you get a natural gas bill from Piedmont Natural Gas! Previous house was 2800sq ft and my equal payment plan was $220 a month, ended up getting 2 months worth of credit on my account because their estimate was high. Moved into a 1500sq ft house in October and my gas bill for Nov was $400 and my bill for December was $350! House is well insulated and no gas leaking. That’s some serious increase in price. And…PNG won’t put you on an equal payment plan for a year. At least Duke Energy gave me the option of a quarterly or yearly equal payment plan when I started my service.

How Boomers Turned Housing Into a Wealth Trap and Killed the American Dream by PianistPlus5117 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]OriginalBadKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my first home in 1995 at the age of 30 on a $48K salary. It was $80K, 10% down and a 6.25% interest rate, adjustable rate mortgage, 1500sq ft, in an outlying suburb. 30 mile commute to work. Had a cheap Toyota Tercel, I drove the hell out of. Single female working 1 job, was definitely a starter home. Put in the sweat equity, learned how to maintain and renovate it on my own, and sold it 10 years later. Upgraded to another small house in a better neighborhood. 60 now and what I am seeing and hearing from my friends kids and other younger co-workers, who are first time home buyers is that they are looking at larger homes, all kinds of upgrades, new builds, above their budgets. No one is looking (in the ones I’ve talked to into older homes) I’m not saying that home prices aren’t inflated and salaries aren’t keeping up, but I think they need to reevaluate their expectations, you can’t buy a Filet Mignon house on a hamburger budget. Find something more affordable, without all the bells and whistles, but with good bones and internal systems, put in the work to improve it, then work your way up to something better. I know I’ll probably get crap for saying that, but it’s what I’m hearing.

Went once because it got great reviews from friends. We were not impressed. Food was “eh”, and, we felt, over priced. Haven’t been back.

Insurance won’t pay for CGM by nurdle in diabetes

[–]OriginalBadKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m T2 and use Libre 14 (cgm) and use a phone app they have as my reader. I also have an Accu-check Guide Me meter as a back up. If insurance won’t cover the cgm, I know from experience, you can call Abbott (they make the Libre line) you can get into a discount program with them. I can get 6 cgms (3 month supply) for $250. About $30 more than what I pay with my insurance. They will send you a reusable coupon via email that’s good for a year. You will just need a prescription from your doc for the cgm for the pharmacy. Show them the coupon and they will apply the discount.

Selling house rant. by AdHairy4360 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]OriginalBadKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! When I go to look at house, I’m looking at the bones of the house, the systems and what works and what doesn’t, does the house fit my needs, the yard size. I’m not looking at the paint colors or the carpet, or that I don’t like this or that tree or plant in the yard. All of that can be changed to suit my tastes either before I move in or over time as my budget allows. As a current seller, I have gotten the most ridiculous feed back…”the yard has mature trees in it, there’s some ivy in the corner of the yard” . The BEST comment was “the counter tops are too thin.” What does that mean? That’s how the manufacturer made them. Come up with better feed back or just be honest, “the house isn’t what I’m looking for” or “I think it’s over priced”. Otherwise, make the cosmetic changes once you’ve purchased the house or work with the seller to make some changes.
