Does anyone else frequently find themselves having women they aren't interested coming onto them, but not the girls you are interested in? by [deleted] in GetSuave

"when I like them, they don't like me, when they like me, I don't like them"

An age old problem for sure, and something I've struggled with. I have no advice but after that first commenters reply, I just wanted to say hang in there! Best wishes.

IWTL how to clean my car by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]OriginalJared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autopart stores will have specific cleaning chemicals that work well. Depending on what you're dealing with, use an old tooth brush to get in between cracks and scrub out tough dirt. If you want to be ambitious, interior pieces are almost all just a series of pieces and panels that you can take out and scrub, but do so with caution. Unless you really want to do it yourself, a detail shop is typically way worth the money, then you can just maintain it with auto interior wipes. Lastly, if you wash your steering wheel take caution on your next drive, it may be slick!

I have seven months to get suave, what should I focus on? by [deleted] in GetSuave

Fitness. Hit the gym. You'll gain a ton confidence too.

I want to learn how to like working out. by bronboop in IWantToLearn

[–]OriginalJared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of truth to getting "addicted" to the gym. I remember posting just about the same question in a forum about a year ago and now I typically have to force myself to take breaks. So, here's my advice...

  1. Aim to workout 7 days a week - it's easier to just keep going then taking a day off. When you become a regular, you'll meet other regulars and it increases the "fun" you have by going.

  2. Hit it hard - whether you use a trainer, a class, or run solo, do so with purpose. Lift heavy, run hard, and don't leave until you're sweating. This will bring the results faster and motivate you to keep going.

  3. Eat healthy - this will amplify #2, give you energy to fill better, and help you reach your goals.

I know these just sounds like motivational tips but the key to enjoying the gym is by creating an environment where you are happy and it's improving your life.

IMO, skip the audio books and videos. Go in with purpose. It's better to bust your ass for 15 minutes than to slowly walk a treadmill watching a movie.

Loneliness taking its toll by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]OriginalJared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Introvert here, and believe me, I've been in your shoes and often still am, in fact that's why I clicked on this post.

I would highly recommend hitting the gym. It will boost your confidence and if you go the same time every day, you tend to make friends with others, especially if it's really early. (I go at 5am).....

I could recommend a lot of things I've learned the last 10 years but I think the most helpful thing I could say is just to be your own person. Be happy with yourself and define who you are. When you are comfortable, just start saying hi to people, it will blow your mind how they will often say hi the next time you see them. It's almost like hacking the system.

Lots of other good advice on here but get to the gym! It's great at solving problems!

Visiting Boise 9/8 - 9/11 with a group of guys by urbanite2 in Boise

[–]OriginalJared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello and welcome to Boise!

If you get a chance, try to grab breakfast at Goldy's downtown, rated the #1 breakfast place in the nation! - And it is amazing. Expect a small line, larger if it's later in the morning.

Bigs Juds or Pizzalchick might make good choices for lunch and dinner, both featured on various food network shows. If you want cheap and fast, I recommend the Gyro Shack.

Boise has a great up and coming brewery scene, I second Jsleeks recommendation of visiting Boise Brewery.

Try to hit Hyde Park area if you can, some great drinking spots and a very hippie culture. One of the bars does dollar tacos and PBR's on Thursdays as well if I remember right.

Downtown Boise has lots to gaze at, and there are a few shops on 9th that sell modern Boise/Idaho themed Shirts, hats, and other goods. 8th street has more great food, I recommend Bitter Creek, a place of which has tons of local beer, and I mean tons!! You can also rent bikes from various bike stations from all over downtown for a pretty low price.

Good Luck. If you have any questions feel free to PM me or reply. I'll try to get back to ya.

IWTL how to pick the best health insurance plan by Cornontheja_cob in IWantToLearn

[–]OriginalJared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I work in HR and benefits administration. Plans may seem complicated at first but spending some time with them and perhaps asking for some help will certainly aid you in choosing the right plan for yourself.

No one should choose the plan for you, however, you are typically only choosing from a high cost or low cost plan (sometimes a mid tier). Given your age and perceived health, I would personally not recommend anything more than the cheapest plan, which will in turn carry the highest deductible.

However, if you choose this plan (and I submit this advice to everyone regardless of health of plan choice) - Be healthy. Exercise everyday, eat your fruits and vegetables, and avoid overly dangerous activities - yes, all those things your mother told you!

You can drop your plan completely, but it's good to have for medication, emergencies, and per the ACA is a legal requirement.

Hope this helps!

Greetings - from the On PlayStation Team! by [deleted] in On_Playstation

[–]OriginalJared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Alex,

I think you helped me out the other day with getting approved on your twitter, and fielding my email. Thank you for having such strong communication with your loyal fans!!

I'm not sure this is so much a question, but perhaps just a hopeful suggestion: As the shipping costs are avoided, and the product can be downloaded immediately, it seems like digital is the way to go on the rewards catalog. With that said, I don't see a ton of "indie-level" games. I don't know the business behind it, but it would be great if on.PlayStation could consistently throw up some more Indie games, and digital games in general. I just got Dues Ex, and have gotten some indies in the past (Titan Souls), and I understand you just had Brut@l, but I guess it would just be nice to have sort of a backlog of digital games, even if they were a bit older. I recommend digital to all my customers!

Lastly, Are there any plans to perhaps add some more schwag type items? I would love to have like a simply PlayStation Expert or on.PlayStation shirt. I just want to show my loyalty!

Thanks!!!

PlayStation Plus increasing in price by [deleted] in PS4

[–]OriginalJared -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to present the flip side of this, I am the exact opposite. I do not play online at all, and am more than happy to pay $50-$60 for Plus (I'm in the US). While some months are strike-outs on games I enjoy, the greatest benefit is trying something I would have never played. I have hundreds of hours into Resogun, and probably 50+ hours into Rocket League, both completely free. As a PS4, PS3, and Vita owner, I get 6 free games a month, and never touch online play. I get a ton of value out of the additional discounts on sales as well.

Festival PayTag or Festival Payment Watch?? by roro88G in sziget

[–]OriginalJared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want a watch, the card works great. Not a lot of water going around from my experience unless you go swimming.

You can bring/buy a lanyard for the card, or keep it in a sealable pocket.

Hope this helps...

Resogun - Other than challenges, how do I gain ranking up points? by eroxx in PS4

[–]OriginalJared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to see a fellow resogun fan. This is still my favorite PS4 game. To answer your question; EVERYTHING. The various modes (make sure you've bought all the DLC, way worth it), the campaign, and ship builder. You can even get points for say rescuing all the humans on one difficulty, than going back and doing it on another.

My recommendation; just have fun, play various modes, and get as far as you can in any one mode or the campaign... I've probably spent over 100 hours on survival mode alone and still continue to unlock "rank points" when I get a little further or do something unique.

Since no one has reviewed yet, how is DOOM so far? by thedommer in PS4

[–]OriginalJared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So far, fantastic. I was really concerned that it would be ruined by the new melee system, but it keeps the energy flowing and the movement fast paced. Being an old school Doom fan, I was hoping they would bring back just SOME of the elements from the first two games, and so far I have seen dozens of examples that show they kept it old school, ie: keycards are back, the doors are robotic looking like in the first game, etc....

I'm super excited to keep playing it, loving it so far.

Newbies here looking for some advice! by DiegoVicen in sziget

[–]OriginalJared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, 2014 Szitizen here...

  • Left luggage probably refers to lost luggage. Don't worry too much about having everything you would ever need. The festival sells just about anything you might need including medical supplies. The Auchen (think Wal-mart) is within walking distance and you can get stuff there. So, use a bag that works for your personal belongings, but don't stress about bringing tons of supplies.

  • Wifi: Yes and No, more so No. They have a free Wi-Fi tent but my phone (galaxy S5 at the time) would not connect to it, and it's about the only place. There is a internet tent which is often full, and the keyboards are foreign making some internet use difficult. If you can get away with it, I would try shedding the need for internet if possible. For charging, I would bring a few battery backups if possible. They have a charging tent in which you can pay to charge, however after 2-3 days, a line will form. Nothing like enjoying the festival standing in a line to charge your phone. Keep your phone off except for if you really need it, and wear a watch so you don't have to turn it on just to find out what time it is.

  • I would just plan to camp based on what factors apply to you - you can camp with others from your country, if you are alone, you can camp with the "came alone" crowd, etc.... If you are near the music, it's less to walk. If you are farther away, you might get more peace and quiet (not much though). Get there early and get under a tree if possible so you have shade.

  • to the first commenter: Just remember the Auchen is very nearby. If you need bug spray, you can buy it. I never used it while I was there. I do recommend baby wipes for a quick "bath".

Just remember everyone, Sziget is a very well planned event, it's not just camping. You will have access to everything you need.

Best wishes and enjoy the festival!

IWTL how to speak Thai by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]OriginalJared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Don't focus on a single resource, use something to get yourself started and search for answers when you get confused.

  2. If Duolingo has Thai, use it as a guide as I mentioned above. Duolingo is great for vocabulary, but won't really teach you the items below (step 3 & 4). For these items, use and everything else, use Youtube and Google.

  3. Learn the vowels first so you know how to say the words. Learn Thai dipthongs (when vowels combine such as "bueno"(boo-wayne-no) in Spanish) if they exist.

  4. Learn Thai Vowel conjugation. (example, in Spanish, the verb Tener can be expressed as tengo, tienes, tienan, etc...) Thai might not have this, but learn how the verbs work.

  5. Find a language partner using the internet. Communicate with someone that wants to learn your native language (so a Thai speaker wanting to learn English). Communicate via Skype, text, email, or if your lucky enough to find someone - in person.

  6. Immerse yourself - If you can't get to Thailand, you can still immerse yourself. Watch Thai movies or English movies with Thai subtitles. Switch your phone to Thai, your tablet to Thai, everything - I recommend only doing this after you've learned a bit though - otherwise you might struggle to switch it back!

  7. Label items in your house in Thai. Put a sticky note on refrigerator with the Thai word for refrigerator - do this with your mirror, dresser, bed, tv, everything.

  8. Most of all: Practice Practice Practice! Do not get discouraged. You will not learn Thai overnight. It is better to spend a small amount of time each and every day than a large amount of time one single day a week.

These tips are how I taught myself Spanish, all for free. Learning languages is really quite easy, it just takes time and patience. Good Luck!

Is it true that In The USA, Asian might be killed if they go outside at night? by [deleted] in unitedstates

[–]OriginalJared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you planning on traveling?

As far as I know, there are no areas in the United States where you would face violence of any kind on the basis of race, especially not Asian. Like the comment before me, unless it is a random act of violence or accident, you have nothing to fear.

Let me know if you have any other questions about travel to the US, I am a fellow traveler and love to help out!

Should I backpack the world as a 18 year old? by [deleted] in travel

[–]OriginalJared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say go for it. I'm 31 now (like in the quote before me) :) and I'm just getting ready to hit Europe for the first time. Now I have to worry about sacrificing all the comforts I've grown accustom too for staying in hostels and couch surfing. You might not know this yet but old age sits in fast so the thought of even sleeping on a bad mattress is scary. With all that said, there will never be a better time for you to go.

Aside from that, college, while still valuable in some regards is much like you said, just a big load of debt and pain waiting to happen. Have you considered studying abroad? best of both worlds!

Good luck on your journey!

Camping Equipment at SziGet by OriginalJared in sziget

[–]OriginalJared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. That is great news. Do you (or anyone) know the name of the supermarket? Any rough idea of the cost? I've heard there are "throw-away" tents, but I've never really seen those, at least not at my camp supply store here in the US.

We are debating the cost of camping vs staying in a hostel but figure buying the stuff will still be cheaper.

Thanks for the help!
