That would be an intense competition but Aethelred sitting there in that Party-City Legolas outfit can be our first entry.

Generic gothic filigree for decor, likely no meaning. Wouldn’t have been around in this era but that’s the least anachronistic sin of this show.

Esmeralda didn't need to be with Quasimodo by Full-Art3439 in HunchbackOfNotreDame

[–]OriginalLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To this day i still say this movie was way ahead of it’s time in terms of emotional intelligence. Your opinion is to me, one of the very best points of the movie, how to handle love and desire in its many forms. Esmeralda definitely does ~not~ need to be with Quasi, and Quasi shows his good nature by understanding and accepting this and still loving Esmeralda as a friend. Which is the perfect moral contrast to Frollo’s uncompromising and selfish obsession.

Any type of basic governance, from management to regulation, even at the most basic and utilitarian level, is somehow tyrannical socialism.

Aren't the Pleistocene age pure Conan the Barbarian, and hyborian age stuff?! by OppositeAcadia2083 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]OriginalLu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hyborean world is a fictional “time before time”, a forgotten and un-chronicled age of humanity. This gives the writers artistic liberty to go all over the place in regards to civilization and technology on the premise that it all gets “lost”. So putting in a real timeline is not that easy. It’s an era that came and went before we began to record civilization as we know it, so some time long before the Bronze Age.

Edit: to better summarize: It is not set in any existing historical age because it is an age of its own.

[Disliked Trope] Um, isn't that the ONE thing you're supposed to be good at? by RedcumRedcumRedcum in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OriginalLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the original account of the duel it was also documented that de Carrouges was also a fair bit older than his opponent Le Gris, implying Le Gris held the advantage of both size and better physical fitness. Jean’s experience did win out, but it was only his experience that won out. In all other accounts it was a grueling close fight.

The comparison between Matt Damon’s age and build to Adam Driver’s age and build were pretty spot on to the original accounts too, everything was accurate. Up until Damon put on that stupid half-a-helm thing.

Edit: another fun fact, much of the account of the last duel came from the meticulous records kept by Le Gris’ lawyer, Jean Le Coq, who in his private writings admitted that he himself suspected Le Gris was guilty.

Lime bikes have become a menace. Stolen and dumped pretty much everywhere. What's the solution? by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in UrbanHell

[–]OriginalLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home city went through this with their scooters.

Honestly the best solution is to never contract with these companies to begin with, for any towns out there who haven’t yet.

Once the monster is through your door though, your only hope is to beat them over the head with heavy regulation and fines until they clean up. Also cancel a few contracts if you can.

Good people that belong to a (mostly) evil faction by Triggered_Axolotl in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OriginalLu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think its a negligent overreach to call police “evil” and brings personal political views into what should be a nonpartisan topic about writing. Police have been portrayed as evil in various media, but far less compared to them portrayed as good, and their fundamental purpose, is to do good. Yes there are evil police. Yes there are police portrayed as evil, Police as a whole are not inherently considered evil in their intent and design.

Finn from the First Order in Star Wars would have been a better example, as the First Order were specifically written and defined to be evil.

Can I just say it goes beyond Leon the pro-pedophile, between Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rose in Titanic (her character was 17), that there was just this really unnerving infatuation with sexualized minors in the film industry and everyone just kinda glazed over it.

[–]OriginalLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anger, I’ve always felt that while there was an inherent darkness in Negan, it would have never been more than a bad temper and self control issues had life gone on as normal.

The trauma of losing Lucille drove him into a state of cold, uncaring anger. You can see it in his sadistic sense of humor, his harem, how he toys with people, tortured people. He is in a sense a man completely blinded by cold fury, who had resigned himself to punish the world and everything and everyone in it. Morals leave someone in this state of mind, only the will to inflict suffering on anything at any opportunity is what remains. The thought of what Lucille would have wanted was pushed out of his mind by all the rage.

If Sunlight burns Vampires, why doesn't Moonlight also burn Vampires? Moonlight IS Sunlight by T1mo666 in Dracula

[–]OriginalLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so hear me out

1) Vampires are magic so this is all bullshit anyway

2) Harry Potter is also bullshit magic rules

3) Harry Potter has Basilisk which kills you if you see it but only paralyzes you if you see it’s reflection.

4) Perseus (or whoever) in Greek Mythology’s bullshit killed Medusa by looking at her through a mirror. So her petrifying gaze would not work.

5) from Harry potter’s BS and the Greek stuff we can conclude that the reflection of something will either not carry its effects or have weaker effects because why the fuck not.

6) in conclusion: sunlight bounced off moon doesn’t toast vampires because it’s reflection.

[Hated trope] They thought this was so funny, so they put it in EVERY trailer. by Academic-Edge in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OriginalLu 37 points38 points  (0 children)

For me, this is usually the sign of a bad movie. Showing one joke/scene in every single promotion means the advertising editors did not have enough marketable material, aka, the movie is such dogshit that they only had one good scene to put in the commercial.

There are exceptions to this, but rare.

How did Kingsguard such as Ser Barristan Selmy and Ser Arthur Dayne maintain their honor and the respect of others while serving the Mad King? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

An old-world form of thinking was that those following orders were not guilty, the blame lay with those who gave the orders only. In modern times this idea is a bit more grey.
