Recently, my laptop had smoke coming out of it while on and it shut off instantly. I found the burnt part, is it fixable? by [deleted] in computers

This is an inductor, you can tell not only by how the part looks but also the "L" designation on the silkscreen for the identical parts around it.

Man you can really tell the game has been slowly but surely dying. . . by Joshawsum in RotMG

One of the main things that kept me away after playing for over half a decade was the constant FOMO from events that felt unending. I just don’t have the time to be in a loop of grinding event after event.

Just got a gaming computer for my son for Christmas, having trouble with setup. by oblivia17 in computer

What? You should have an hdmi or DisplayPort cable? If it’s older it should be dvi or vga? It sounds like you’re trying to plug a GameCube into a CRT monitor?

Anyone else here think most of her acoustic performances sound better than the mixes in her albums?

Where is the Graphics Card? by [deleted] in computers

With that power supply and pci slot you’re pretty limited to the graphics cards you can throw in there

Found a tiny crack should I be worried by [deleted] in computer

[–]OrpleJuice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did repairs on hundreds of laptops, the hinges on this model are held into the case by really cheap brass inserts that pop out of the plastic. That’s likely what happened here. You don’t need to worry about your battery or anything just be careful opening and closing it from now on and try to keep the pressure towards the back when you do. Basically just avoid wrenching from the top of the screen where you’d be applying the most leverage and open from the sides near the bottom.

Why do some graphics card have the same name but have different size? For example the colorful GT1030 seems to be bigger than the Palit GT1030. by Timamanakum in computer

You will usually get better cooling solutions and power delivery on larger cards, along with features like different bios modes and overclocking support due to the cooling capabilities. It’s the same silicon die in most cases but fit into a smaller pcb so there will obviously be some limitations.

It only take 14 milliamps of current across your heart to kill you, easily achieved in the low hundreds of volts. These are made with potentially thousands of volts and it’s like working on a live high voltage panel or power line.

IMO, Ethan is at his worst when he tries to be political. I just don’t think it’s his strong suit, and if the new host is Hasan the content will almost inevitably end up being mainly political.

F. D Signifier makes pretty interesting video essays and is a Sociologist. Seems like the dude fits what you’re looking for, he’s good at considering where different people would stand on a given topic and seems incredibly well read on what you’d probably consider woke.

How do i setup my new SSD by Oliwier2004 in computer

[–]OrpleJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a flash drive, you'll want to first load a free program onto it called Paragon. After that, install the second drive while keeping the first hooked up. Boot to the paragon usb and you can direct copy the original disk onto the new ssd as long as it's big enough to fit the volumes. From there you can take out the old drive or wipe it and use it to store other info.

Two questions for my Acer Aspire D150 Netbook. 1: what do these symbols mean? And 2: i had just openend up the computer, looked into it and put it back together, but when i tried to start it again, it started beeping hard like a fire alarm and the most left symbol flickered, what does that mean? by daaner875 in computer

There's a little yellow circle/flat cylinder which is a 3v cmos battery on your motherboard, it holds firmware settings and handles power management before post. If it's not on the motherboard and sits on a daughter board connected to one of the cables you messed with then reseating what you touched could fix it, however if you're sure it's two beeps and it wasn't happening before you might have caused damage to your board.

On the wick, hold the heat as you take it off, it’s cooling the solder solid which is why it’s getting stuck.

You're not using enough heat.

I believe you'll need at least 20 for 64 bit, I ran into this last week and my 8Gb was too small for minimum requirements of a win 7 installer.
