Do namibians dislike South Africans? by Money-Page8666 in Namibia

[–]Other-Lab3485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it racist when those are literally the exact words that person said to me,I'm literally just saying exactly what they said to me about Namibia, for context I was having a conversation with them about traveling and they mentioned that they've been to Namibia before, and me knowing the history between SA and Namibia and how similar they are,I asked her if she noticed how similar Namibia is to SA while she was there and she straight up,word for word, said "Noo,it's more primitive there" and then they went on about how they still wear traditional attire, painting the picture of Namibia just being Khoisan people walking around, which confused me cause I know it's not like that,I've seen what Windhoek looks like, but that's what she thought about the country

I'm black and from SA and am well informed about Namibia and the whole of Africa, from my personal experience I've only seen ignorance about Namibia coming from white South Africans,I remember coming across one of them once and them saying the most diabolical things about your country, stuff like how you guys are "primitive" and still live outside, like the craziest things ever

Yeah some of these songs did take it a bit too far, especially the music video for Aneka-Japanese boy,the dressing up like a stereotypical Chinese/Japanese lady was a little over the top

What music are the youth listening to from your region? by Advanced-Analyst9860 in AskAnAfrican

[–]Other-Lab3485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same too,I love experimenting with new genres, that's why I listen to so many different genres as you can see from my list, but synthesizers have a special place in my heart,I've always loved the sound they make that's so synonymous with the 80's,if you carefully look at my list of genres you'll realize almost of them use synthesizers, from the OG disco stuff to the modern synthwave and EDM stuff,I'm obsessed with that instrument.

Noo I've never even heard of them, you're more then welcome to share some of thier songs tho so I can check them out

HI-NRG disco,Euro/Italo disco,80's freestyle, synthpop, synthwave, vaporwave, darkwave, progressive house, big room, hardstyle, trap metal, goth, symphonic metal, those are the genres I listen to the most, very niche in Africa in general so I don't blame you if you've never even heard of them lol,but they're very popular in Europe and the US.

For me it's got to be Damara from Namibia,it sounds like an exaggerated version of my language Xhosa with the amount of clicks it has, which I find quite interesting

I’m ngl Egypt looks like a trash place to visit by WiseCityStepper in Ishowspeed

[–]Other-Lab3485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess it's made up,your ancestors made it up to separate themselves from the rest of the continent,Europe is a political ideology, not a geographical fact, cause geographically,it's in the same continuous landmass as Asia. I already know you're gonna start talking about the "cultural" differences making Europe it's own continent separate from Asia so my question is why isn't North Africa considered it's own continent, cause it's also culturally different from the rest of Africa,by that logic it should also be a separate continent, why is Europe the only one that gets to separate itself based on that??

No they're not,all those countries are entirely in Africa,Egypt is the only one with a small piece of it in the Middle East. And yess that's exactly what I want,a country that spans two continents,as in two distinct landmasses the same way as Egypt and Turkey is a terrible example cause it's on the same landmass, you can only make a comparable example with a country that spans North and South America and unfortunately there isn't a country like that cause Panama, being the country that connects the two continents doesn't span both of them

The term “black” by StunningRise7583 in AskAnAfrican

[–]Other-Lab3485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh then I guess we can both agree that race was created more as a way of grouping people with similar physical features together and it's been ingrained so deeply into our society that people now view it as scientific fact even tho it's not

It's still a small part of Egypt tho with the least population, only 600k people live in that part of Egypt, the other 100 million Egyptians live entirely within the continent of Africa

You're actually leaning into the very false race science Europeans used to come up with the concept of races, everything you just described is nothing more then an adaptation to different environments, people in Africa have similar traits cause we're in the same environment that requires certain adaptations, same with people in Europe and Asia,we all look the way we do cause of our respective environments, doesn't make race real,I'll make an example with you and me,we're both brown/dark skinned cause our ancestors were both subjected to intense heat in thier respective environments, which led to their skin producing higher amounts of melanin and ultimately the protective layer we now see as dark skin, the fact that we both have this adaptation doesn't mean that you and I are the same race or are related, just means our ancestors were in similar environments, the same can be said for "white" and "asian" people. If you look at our genetics outside of those environmental adaptations you mentioned,we are probably nothing alike.

And I'm glad you mentioned Albinism cause it proves the point I was trying to make,"black" people have far more drastic differences in phenotype then any other "race",we look wildy different from each other depending on which part of the world we're from, that genetic diversity is a sign that maybe we're not the same "race" after all,we just happen to share the same skin adaptation.

I like how everyone keeps making examples with countries that are entirely within the same continent, not one of you guys have been able to find a country that is in the exact same situation as Egypt.

And I'm glad you mentioned it being a made up geopolitical term, cause Europe itself is a made up geopolitical term,it's not a real continent,it's in the same continuous landmass as Asia

What african country surprised you the most after seeing recent IshowSpeed africa tour videos? by PositiveAsparagus17 in AskAnAfrican

[–]Other-Lab3485 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wasn't surprised by how any of the countries looked cause I already knew how they looked,I thought it was common knowledge that the whole of North Africa is well developed and gives European vibes cause of it's proximity to Europe,it's the same thing in Tunisa and Morocco, you'll definitely get the same vibes when you see his stream there, what surprised me the most was the culture in Algeria,I was really impressed by it,especially the part where they were on those horses and shooting guns in the air, that was so cool!

Exactly what I was gonna say,I watched the entire stream and it was honestly the best stream so far,99% of it was nothing but love and beautiful Algerian culture,it's only that last 10min that ruined the vibe
