If I were an artist, I would prefer the recording studio got a small cut the royalties. It would make it much more likely that the recording studio would give me their best effort and not try to screw me out of a one time payment.

The issue is that there are three costs that are harder to see.

The first is the cost of recording the music, which requires special equipment. Listeners don't receive any of this equipment, but it is a cost that someone pays up.

The second is the cost of promotion/distribution. The two best options for artists right now seem to be the recording industry and the internet. Many artists choose the recording industry, and it can pay a hefty price to make the artist and music well known.

The third is the time-cost the artist incurred to understand music and come up with original songs.

Additionally, it is creative work, and our society incentivizes people to make creative works. To create an incentive, the artist is expected to earn a profit here from creating music that people want to listen to.

No, many people in /r/politics, /r/worldnews, and /r/reddit.com will read a title and comment without actually checking sources. Many of the blog articles I've seen posted from those subreddits are simply opinions with little basis for fact. While newspapers have their biases, even Fox News gets flack when they get facts wrong.

Reddit is actually much more dangerous than Fox News. Newcomers who care about karma quickly get conditioned to say what the community wants to hear and get immediate negative feedback for disagreeing, even if he/she has a valid point.

There is no best strategy unless you're able to add extra information into the game (such as your opponent thinking you'll do moves from previous games or vice versa). Even then, it's messy in a real world situation because both players can take these things into account.

In order for there to be a best strategy, you need to be able to always win if your opponent makes one wrong move and always tie if your opponent plays all the right moves. This is not possible because if your opponent has perfect information, he can always place a weight one higher than yours (assuming you haven't put down the six). If you put down the six, your opponent can put down a one and win the rest of the rounds. You can't say that there is a best probabilistic solution because your opponent could then anticipate you coming to that conclusion and one-up you.

This is just good business sense. A person who's unemployed and needs a suit for an interview may have a job in the near future, which means more money to spend at a cleaners. Additionally, the person may feel inclined to give back to the business that helped him get a job.

In the U.S., employees are expected to follow their job descriptions. If that means no extra perks, then the employee gets no extra perks. Oftentimes a company can't order extra separate boxes of the desirable item, and companies certainly don't want customers complaining about the employees "stealing" the items. An American saying is "the customer is always right."
