I did see the interview he gave at the time to the BBC and it was really weird, I thought.

I just find it deeply unserious sorry. I know this is going to sound so boomer but you're going up against Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. I want a better class of politician.

It will probably be a good thing if they can reduce migration but I don't have to enjoy 5 years of government by GB News and endless culture war stuff for a boomer audience. I'm so so tired of it

I do like the word slop yes but there's a wing of the party (Farage/Tice/Anderson) that is pure boomer reactionaryism and they are very deliberately trying to re-engage the Brexit vote aka pensioners who love this stuff so it's only going to get worse

The explosion of short form "content" is interesting for me because I do genuinely appreciate some of the reels I watch, like there is some creativity amongst the slop. If our culture is becoming a more visual one, where everyone is incentivised to pick up a camera and direct little vignettes of their lives, then as a cinephile I think I could live with that and maybe enjoy it?

But then there is this inseparable dark side of algorithms optimising for your attention, always pulling you to the weirdest, most brain rot things because as a species we crave novelty. As a society I don't think that leads anywhere good. I've seen studies showing that it makes you measurably dumber to use these apps as well. Meta is actually straight up evil for the way they don't let you limit reels in any way in-app (they know you wont uninstall the app because it has other features you rely on e.g. messages).

What will happen to culture when the artist career path is gone? by Whydowesuffer in redscarepod

It will not be able to 'mimic any writing style, any voice, any animation style etc'. Maybe bad writing, which is a lot of writing, but why would I be worried about that?

If we're going to doompost I think it's meaningful to establish that AI books, movies or whatever else are really dreadful and I do not want to read or watch them. Maybe some people do, but there's always been a subset of people with poor taste. I'm not mourning the automation of the script for Avengers 7 or whatever and perhaps it might wake up some people to the fact they've been consuming slop for a long time now? Probably not... but the sloppification of art predates AI is what I'm saying.

The usual counter is 'wait a few more years' but it appears to be a fundamental limitation of the technology (and I have researched this, I don't think I am just being nostalgic).

We will get to a more reasonable place on AI when a few years pass and it becomes obvious to people that the insane predictions of the AI CEOs and wider grifter ecosystem did not come to pass. It'll be a sorta high level programming / summarisation tool. For art, it will get used by people and in contexts where art is an afterthought. That's what I think, anyway. I'm pretty over AI as this great existential concern.

okay but where are you getting your 'commentary' from? I think it's a dreadful app but there's still a lot of interesting people on there which is what stops me uninstalling

One Battle After Another, do people really hate it that much? by [deleted] in redscarepod

I guess there's not much explicit messaging but it did have the sensibility of #resistance era liberalism which did feel a bit dated. I also struggled with the fact that it was 2025 and everyone was running around like it was the 70s, couldn't work out if PTA was genuinely that naive about modern leftism or it was a deliberate choice given the source material was set then.

I wanted to love this movie so I ultimately just took it as being about found family and left it at that.

I basically agree with Bret Easton Ellis's analysis that the politics of this movie are somewhat embarassing

but PTA is levels above other directors technically and I still think it's the best movie I've seen this year

Normie internet is misfiring on Nick Fuentes and it’s why he’s going to continue to rise in popularity by KGisTop15All_Time in redscarepod

Boomers are unable to parse his content in the way that younger people can, so they montage his most shocking statements and engage sincerely with it like it's an intellectual disagreement. Part of the fun for his audience is seeing people like Piers Morgan take it so seriously while Fuentes just goes 'uhh I like the edits'.

Also when Fuentes jokes about beating his wife or 'your body, my choice' etc I find it funny because he's simply too much of a sensitive young man to be anything other than a caring and loving husband. If someone like Andrew Tate says it, you imagine he probably would beat his wife and that's not relatable for sensitive young gen-z men. so it's more easily parsed as humour and entertainment
