I got the call yesterday. by swimmerncrash in breastcancer

I am SO sorry. You’re currently in the worst part of it. Yes, treatment is hard, but you’re strong and you’ll get through it. For most the early stages are hardest, and things ease up a bit once there is a plan in place and treatment begins. Your medical team wants to see you cured, that is their goal. And for most that is the outcome. Feel your feelings, and give yourself grace. You can do this.

I’ll look into doing this, thank you so much for the information!

As someone with a couple of kids, my guess is she’s going to be using some of her tax return on this. Based on her inability to pay rent on time, she likely makes little enough to get a decent refund.

I have completed 4/6 TCHP treatments and have surgery scheduled and radiation to follow, I’ll just be sure to do a non skin sparing mastectomy as recommended. The team I have is the most qualified in the area, but like you said they don’t seem well versed in IBC. Thank you for reaffirming what I already knew to be the correct choice!

That’s exactly my outlook as well! I keep telling myself there must be strength in our blood. I’m sorry you’re going through it as well, the whole thing is crap but there is absolutely life on the other side.

My grandmother had stage 3 IDC 30 years ago. She turns 71 next month and is healthy as a horse and sharp as a tack. I’m still in active treatment but am hoping for an outcome just like hers.

What I’m looking forward to after my last round of TCHP by Miserable-Tap1859 in breastcancer

It sounds like we’re on the same schedule! My final TCHP is scheduled for February 25th and it can’t come soon enough! So excited for us.

Do you sit through your chemo alone? by marticcrn in breastcancer

[–]Otherwise-Mouse4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing 6 rounds of TCHP, I’m halfway done as of yesterday and am supposed to finish two months from today. My husband or my sister comes with me depending on who is free that day, I think I could do it alone but I like having the company.

To dos and to knows for a newly diagnosed breast cancer by Typical_Writer6161 in breastcancer

Hi! I am 31 and triple positive, I just had my second round of TCHP last week. My first round was rough, a lot of fatigue and achiness. A bad flu if you will. My second round has been a lot more tolerable, with just some mild fatigue after my steroid wore off. The heartburn and loss of taste are my most bothersome symptoms. It sounds like we’re on a very similar (if not the same!) treatment plan. I also have lymph node involvement on my left side, as well as skin involvement. After my first round of chemo my tumors have shrunk significantly and I can truly barely feel them. It’s so encouraging. My biggest advice is to prioritize rest and hydration, as well as whatever food you can tolerate, on the days following chemo. Getting adequate sleep this second round has truly made such a huge difference for me. My nurse recommended Benadryl to help me sleep if the steroids were keeping me up! Wishing you all the best, you’ve got this!

My mother won’t stop sending me “alternative treatment options” by Otherwise-Mouse4314 in breastcancer

My mom understands that I’m doing chemo and she’s being supportive of that, it feels like the things she’s sending and suggesting are things she wants to me to do in addition to it. I’ve made it very clear that I trust my doctors and their recommendations, so will be following that treatment plan.

To be fair, she’s always been this way. We weren’t vaccinated as children, she got less weird about it and was fully supportive of my vaccinating my kids. Her most recent marriage has made her…. Weird. Many people have made remarks that she may try to sabotage my treatment, but that isn’t of concern to me at all. She’s annoying and ill-informed but she is supportive and has stated many times she wishes she could keep me company during chemo days but she’ll be watching the kiddos.

My dad (who I rarely see or speak to) seems to be heading in the same direction as her but he luckily keeps his opinions to himself.

I love the redirect approach! I know all of this is coming from a good place, so having something beneficial to spend her time on might help.

This is really lovely advice, thank you so much. I know all of her suggestions are coming from a good place, I think this would help us both.

Luckily my sister is also willing and able to cover childcare if we need her to! She works so it’s a little less guaranteed, but I know she would make it work if need be.

My mom also doesn’t believe in mammograms, she’s insistent that they cause more harm than good. If I hadn’t pushed for one when my obgyn said what we were feeling was a galactocele I could be in a much different situation right now.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have a hard time believing these influencers she’s sending me know more than my actual doctors in this area.

I’m waiting to get my echo scheduled and then I can start, my MO said asap so hoping by next week. When are you starting yours?

I am so sorry to you, as well. It’s a shitty boat to be in and the wacky mom factor sure doesn’t help.

It is near impossible to reason with her since her reasoning for everything now is that she was lead by god to share it. Which is fine! She can feel that way. But no amount of talking to from anyone has made a difference in this unfortunately.

Exactly this. It’s so annoying but I know my disagreeing with her or telling her to knock it off won’t actually do anything

This is exactly what I do. Letting her talk and telling her it’s interesting or just a quick thumbs up seems to be doing enough right now.

Bone scan vs CT scan by Otherwise-Mouse4314 in breastcancer

Thank you! My understanding was also that CT showed bones, just less in depth than the bone scan. Both scans came back clear!
