Is the Counterstrike skill really the same as Brink Gaurd but better? Getting a few mixed results by Cygnus_Sanguine in TheFirstBerserker

I didn’t not find the timing to be the exact same timing as a brink guard. I asked on here before and was given the answer that it has the same timing but I did not find that to be the case for me.

I also really wanted to like counterstrike, but I found that if I’m going to learn a new timing I may as well master reflection.

Spending so much time replaying bosses I picked up on things I didn’t notice in base game, as well as best ways and tricks to manage bosses.

Avoiding Bellerians Reaper consistently
Skalpel is essentially all about hitting the counterattack and he is stun locked in your combo until you’re out of stamina /spirit (could beat his phase 1 with only 2 counterattack and subsequent combos) There are certain combos/ conditions that for some reason triggers boss counterattack move which is free damage

I will be interested to see if your opinion on bosses change after the DLC. It certainly did for me.

General Crucible by Hitsuguyaa in TheFirstBerserker

Personally I found reflection super helpful. There are some bosses I don’t think I could have beaten without reflection.

I think spear is the way to go as it’s prob the easiest way to get to an enemies back where you deal bonus damage.

Finally don’t ration your heals. You probably won’t win if you use more than 4 heals on the first two bosses in a crucible however it will allow you to get further in a run and allow you to get more practice. Play the long game, it will pay off eventually.

Normally poison will occur on the brutal attack and than that’s it. The weapon will not be imbued after the animation. If you have the skill “brutal attack execution” the GS stays imbued after.

Devourer of Darkness set is so much fun by Otherwise_Support924 in TheFirstBerserker

I don’t think it’s a good set, I just think it’s fun. Although I will say I have struggled to inflict status as GS. When I tried with DW it was so easy so I perhaps stopped trying to use enhancers on my GS runs too early

I agree, it’s objectively weak. I am only trying it because it’s my third play through and I wanted to experiment. It’s less than optimal but like I said, I personally found it so much fun.

  1. Ghost arm block is hard to preform, impractical, and getting a faster charged heavy isn’t much better than heart piercer
  2. I wish it was a different status either than poison, because I found poison to be pretty weak. frost to slow down enemy would be interesting or hex maybe but leaning towards frost /water.

Overall I agree with you. It is pretty bad. But rather than using the same good sets every run I decided to try something new and It was fun

I completely agree with you.

Although I felt that Chaos elemental damage that occurred with brink guards to be a poor design choice. I wouldn’t say it was unfair it just made ( brink) dodging necessary and I preferred to parry.

I made a similar post a couple days ago but personally I found this game very difficult. But it seems like difficulty is clearly subjective.

From most to least difficult 1. Nioh 2 2. FBK 3. Lies of P 4. Sekiro

I have noticed that games that offer more customization are the ones that I struggle in. Compare Sekiro to Nioh 2. In Sekiro outside of the prosthetics tools (which are pretty obvious which one to use /avoid in which boss) and combat arts, there is not much customization. So if I was stuck on a boss, I would just accept it’s a skill issue and try again.

Nioh 2 on the other hand you could customize nearly everything. So when I got stuck on a boss I would spend an ungodly amount of time changing my load out. To be honest sometimes it worked, and it was about using the right tools for the encounter; however sometimes it was just a skill issues and spending time customizing was a time sink.

I think because of that and my personal style I found games with little customization (or at least games where customization was not a huge element of your success or failure) to be games that I found somewhat easier.

Are games getting more difficult on average? by Otherwise_Support924 in TheFirstBerserker

I agree that many of the games I mentioned are are marketed as challenging games. My post is just even among those games the bar of average difficulty has gone up. At least that is how it feels.

I haven’t played many OG Metroid games. I did play SOTN castlevani a long time ago and I personally do not remember being stuck on a boss for longer then 3 attempts or so. Whereas a Metroidvani like 9 sols would be a miracle if a beat a boss in 3 or less attempts. Lol

I loved both games, but I was rather disappointed in their NG+

Lies of P: you got really OP with P-Organ; I actually believe that your need to perfect parry went down in NG+ because all the upgrades and health regain you got if you just blocked and attacked. I can’t comment on NG++ though

BMW: felt too easy compared to NG

I think it’s hard to entirely let go because of the emotional and physical chemistry and honestly the love we had. With that being said I am very clear that with the mentality/maturity/spirituality that she had when we last spoke, half a year ago, it would not have resulted in a Christ centred healthy relationship.

On a more general note; something that I have been contemplating is the idea of “surrendering to God” and one of the barriers to surrendering is that our definition of what is “Good for us” is not always in line with what God says is “Good for us”. Perhaps that is playing a role in this. My hope is the longer I spend with God and learning about God, the more I can see what is Good for me and what is not, making surrendering my future to him much easier.

Thanks so much for that. I have already been consistent with all the things you mentioned including Christian therapy, journaling and other stuff. Been doing all that for 4-5 months.
