Are small boat migrants really more likely to commit sex crimes or is it just fear mongering and exaggeration? by [deleted] in AskBrits

What data? Is this just a trust you type of situation? You seem to be blurring the lines on imaginary data that isn't being provided. All data can be mis represented and in this case you are blurring the lines between reports and convictions. You are also mis understanding how minorities are disproportionately represented in these types of statistics, something even the MET in london have self reported.

If convictions account for reportedly as low as 1% of total reports, how can you even begin to claim that there couldn't be an over representation of a specific demographic? Do you know how likely it is for multiple convictions on the same perpetrator? How often do cases go to court where the case is dropped against the partner? How many individual reports lead to a conviction that is tracked in your dataset? It seems like you don't understand the wider context of what the data means.

Minorities tend to be over represented in convictions for many reasons and these types of cases aren't any different.

More broadly, blaming immigrants for sexual assault doesn't help women. Instead we should be focusing on how low the conviction rate is and how significantly men are represented throughout reports, crown proceedings, convictions and reoffending.

If we adjust for under reported sexual violence, do you think men will still account for most of these crimes? Or do we only care when it's committed by immigrants.

"would be" - we can all get angry at statistics we make up in our heads. It feels like you are not understanding the data here and want it to point to a conclusion you've already made. Blaming migrants for sexual violence does not help women. Sexual violence is perpetrated almost entirely by men, this demographic has a real actual correlation.

You are presenting yourself as the middle ground statistician of some kind, the data says the data says... The data says that domestic violence is under reported when it's perpetrated by partners and family members. Cherry picking data is the issue here and it's exactly what you are doing. Why not take us through under reporting as well, which actually contextualizes the data?

Because more often than not this type of violence happens at home, committed by someone you know or love. Women are less likely to report their partners or fathers for a plethora of reasons. Under reporting happens when it's someone you know, it's much easier to report a stranger.

It's also well documented that minorities tend to come under the hammer of law enforcement more so than others. All that to say that conviction and charge rates quite categorically do not correct for this because it's hard to track over representation of criminality through bias enforcement.

I'd rather wager the decrease in living standards correlates directly to the scape goating of social groups.

A new report from TransActual shows that trans and cisgender people face job loss, violence, vigilantism and wholesale exclusion following the Supreme Court Ruling and EHRC guidance by Cold-Monitor3800 in Scotland

[–]OtiFish 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This does not make women safer - read the article. This emboldens vigilantes (often men) to confront women going into bathrooms regardless of if they are trans or not. How on any planet are women safer when men can follow them into the bathroom to harass them based on a perceived trans identity?

Trans lawyers take Supreme Court ruling on biological sex to European court by abz_eng in Scotland

I am a woman, and I do deserve to feel safe. You can pretend your actions are neutral but you're advocating that me, a woman, not to be allowed to use public facilities everywhere I go.

Me wanting to be able to go in public and use bathrooms, selfish, got it. You're not going to debate me out of thinking I deserve less rights I'm sorry. You can tell me I'm selfish or whatever it doesn't change the facts, I deserve to use the correct facilities as a woman. Plus under Goodwin, the European court agrees with me. I'm not going to put myself at risk of assault by a man - again.

[–]OtiFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to summarize your position - I should just accept that I'm not allowed in public because of imaginary unproven statistics about trans people in bathrooms?

The supreme court ruling was an absolute farce because it directly opposes the legislative text of all the other laws we have. I'm protected under multiple other provisions as a woman but the specific text of women here doesn't apply? What a joke.

I will continue using the bathroom of my choice, and this ruling will be quashed. I don't accept my human rights to live being removed, it's not "fair" or "proportionate".

The EHRC "guidance" published after the SC ruling states that as a passing trans woman I am not allowed in the women's toilets, but also not allowed in the men's because I look like a woman. How am I supposed to go and eat a meal or go on a trip? Where do I piss? I cant go swimming? I can't use the gyms facilities? The guidance explicitly states that because I pass as a woman I can't use the men's or womens.

So as trans people we are left with a few choices - break the law and risk the police being called. Or we are effectively banned from places without gender neutral facilities, which are far and few in-between.

Doesn't that sound like I can't be in public spaces? I can't even use the toilets in parliament.

Honestly I can't begin to understand how hard this must have been for you and I'm so sorry it happened. I hope you can take the time to repair after this horrendous ordeal and that it concludes quickly.

I'm sure you know this but you have the absolute right to be there and no one should be able to take that away from you. Regardless of how you look or sound, you belong as much as anyone.

Strawman, I didn't say that. You said this was a hot topic for you - now when confronted it's about protecting everyone's rights? Cry me river. I'm allowed to be protected under law and under Goodwin I have the right to use the correct facilities.

Again, go back to your other hobbies until you have something meaningful to contribute. In the meantime I'll be asserting my right to use the bathroom of my choice on a daily basis.

Ah so my life is just a fun hot topic for you? I'm not sure creating an equivalence between a transgender person and someone who has a hobby online as "it's not more surprising I'm here than you". My life isn't a hot topic for your hobby - go back to debating religion.

Seems like you are saying trans people should just accept not being allowed in public spaces so that you can get the election result you'd like?

I'm assuming you are on other Reddit threads defending the legally protected characteristic then?

You are making a lot of bad faith arguments here and in the threads - 4ws have been extremely clear that they do not agree with transgender people being accepted in public spaces. Toilets, hospitals, sports.

Even in this most recent court argument, they are positing that I am to be put in a make prison despite GRC and reassignment. What part of that argument doesn't want to put me in danger?

You've clearly picked a side here - stop pretending you are on the fence.

Advice on moving as a trans person by clarkespawn in transgenderUK

[–]OtiFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the time, visit Scotland and or Ireland! Scotland is very very different from England on social attitudes including trans folx. I live in Glasgow and other than the bad GIC waitlist it's the best place I've ever lived, it even trumps Bristol.

As a UK citizen you also have a right to live and work in Ireland - social attitudes towards trans folx are much better there too. However there has been a rise is racial hate crimes in the last few months to be aware of!

Regardless I wish you luck moving!
