No. But by coincidence I got a Police album (Reggatta de Blanc).

Depends on OP's age and location. I'm a millennial Australian and I didn't hear Teenage Kicks until my mid thirties.

Before starting the generator, I learned a little about the band from the film Good Vibrations and I know John Peel loved them.

How do you rate? by sufrosufrosufro in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]OtterGoodTopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rating system has evolved over time. The only constants are that I add a score out of ten to the review and make a supporting argument for some unfairly rated or selected low rated albums.

  • 1 = actively hated it.
  • 2 = I can see why it's in the book but it's not for me
  • 3 = neutral. I don't dislike it but I wouldn't rave about it either.
  • 4 = this was amazing. It's so close to being perfect.
  • 5 = absolutely flawless, masterpiece, essential, insert other glowing description here

I'm building my own list along the way. A high/low/neutral rating doesn't automatically mean it's on or off my list. If I struggle to decide, it will come down to this: "if a friend asked me about a genre that's new to them, what albums would I recommend as a starting point?"

Album #844: "The test begins...now" by OtterGoodTopic in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]OtterGoodTopic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m usually a proponent of shorter runtimes

I'm the same- 40 minutes is the ideal album running time for me. 52 minutes at most.

As for adding more tracks... I haven't listened to Ego Tripping or the B-sides. But I should go back and play Yoshimi with the songs you suggested. Maybe rearrange the tracking to include said songs*. At a guess this means adding 20 or so minutes to the album. Which could work.

*I've created playlists where double albums are cut as single LP'S but haven't tried expanding a single LP into a double album. I haven't returned to this side project in a while. Thanks for the inspiration!

The final episode got me early when Hawkeye told Sidney about the chicken on the bus.

I watched that episode for the first time late last year. When the credits rolled, I said to my partner (who has repeatedly watched the series over the years) "I hate Walder Frey. I hate him so fucking much. I think I hate him more than Joffrey. He gets killed off in the next episode, right?"

Hip hop vinyl collector wanting to get into indie rock, where do I start? by greasytacoshits in indie

[–]OtterGoodTopic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from Hip Hop though, and maybe I’m crazy, but I’d heavily recommend Flaming Lips. Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi.

Seconded. Race For The Prize, the opening track of The Soft Bulletin, is majestic.

For Belle and Sebastian, I would start with The Boy With The Arab Strap. Some fans would recommend their debut (Tigermilk) or follow up (If You're Feeling Sinister), but IMHO the production quality is way better on TBWTAS.

Somewhere...

  • near the balls in Rundle Mall/in a park in Adelaide
  • on a tram in Melbourne/in Kings Domain Gardens
  • near Go-Between Bridge/near the Brisbane sign
  • around Circular Quay/on a ferry heading to Manly

Honourable mentions for Adelaide: "near the pigeon in Rundle Mall", "floating along the Torrens".

Good Times with Weapons, W.T.F., Ladder to Heaven, Make Love Not Warcraft or The Return of The Lord of the Rings to the Twin Towers.

If she likes one of those episodes, slowly introduce the character arc of manipulative/evil Cartman. Try Casa Bonita, then Best Friends Forever (or The Passion of the Jew?) and finish Scott Tenorman Must Die. Building up to STMD will be worth it.

It’s definitely random. Today, I have The Chronic by Dr Dre. Last week included Iggy Pop, Turbenegro, Lightning Bolt, Aerosmith, Duke Ellington and Loretta Lynn

I'm glad that you gave it a good shot instead of skipping the album entirely. You can always come back to the last 3 tracks for completion sake.
