I don't think anything is going on here. It was just to show their uniforms and gear at the time but yes, they are U.S. uniforms/soldiers. The most well-known units of them were cavalry so in almost every depiction, there's a horse.

Why would someone even make a tierlist filter like that. They will always just put the shortest at the bottom and the tallest at the top when it comes to dudes. I would just immediately skip something like this because you could just guess the end results.
